  • Jonny Greenwood is a real genius. The best OST for the best movie.

  • I miss Daniel Plainview.

  • I never saw Avatar cause it looked terrible in the trailers and I heard it was donkey dick from alot of people who saw it. I dunno...to me the CGI in avatar looked horrendous.

  • Why are people comparing this movie to Avatar? I love both but that's pretty far fetched.

  • probably one of my most favorite films of all time. its that good.

  • ah man, this and jesse james were two incredible films, such haunting soundtracks. cinema will never die as long as film isnt discontinued

  • @elstroshitnonstop 2007 was a great year for movies

  • i want to climb into the world that this music creates.

  • Starting at 1:15 is the best part. Awesome and evil build-up. I'm always like, "Aww shit, here we go." I'm serious too. I've had this on loop for hours.

  • Goddamn Jonny Greenwood is one talented motherfucker.

  • I really hate when people say that you can't compare two things, or more specifically say that one is better than the other. What's the logical extension of that thought? We end up with having to say that Sex and the City is equal to Lawrence of Arabia, its bullshit, you should be able to explain why one movie/piece of music/book is better than another. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion no matter how stupid it is is not a valid response. Make people think about things for a change.

  • @xavtron ooh. burn.

  • @MrChaz123123 not saying that people have to agree about it or they are automatically wrong if you disagree with me. People should be entitled to their own opinions, but people should actually think about their opinions and be able to defend them with proper explanations.

  • @xavtron That's an incredible way to put it. Thank you. "It's my opinion" really only goes so far. Sure, the nature of film is subjective, and so is most anything to do with art, but could you compare Stairway to Heaven to Friday? I don't think so. Can you compare TWBB to something like Baby Geniuses? I think the answer is no, one is clearly a superior film in terms of film making, maybe not entertainment but that's like saying a basketball team is only as good as it entertains...

  • Two people have had their milkshake drank by Daniel Plainview

  • avatar and there will be blood are way to different to compare

  • Fuck the Mormon ads

  • this song is really depressing

  • I have my pipeline.

  • @TheReaLcatniP same here

  • Amazing how collaborative the process of creating cinema is. The film wouldn't be the same (or anything close to it) without Greenwood's profoundly powerful music.

  • so freaking sad. I love how the soundtrack is laid out like the movie-- it starts out hopeful and everything, but soon it all spirals down into madness and dismay. This is the final track and it's so sad and emotional and so GREAT. It really displays the damage and the hurt that this man has caused and endured

  • Greenwood should compose more music for more movies.

  • Comment removed

  • This song is played when the frame jumps 20 years.

Its meant to convey sadness at the years that have passed by and how nothing has happened in that time.

  • Brought me to tears

  • truly fantastic. a gem.

  • i person had their milkshake stolen by daniel plainview

  • does anyone know where i could get the score for this? I'd love to play it in the quartet I'm in!!

  • Comparing There Will Be Blood to Avatar is literally like comparing Mozart to Lady Gaga. They're so tremendously different in format that they're practically incomparable.

  • @nachoking54 I don't think saying something is better than something else is really comparing them.

  • ha ha ha well since people are talking about Avatar- I thought it was so shit! Hugely predictable etc. But it appealed to the masses so.....

  • Genius. All hail Jonny Greenwood.

  • Hands down one of the greatest movies ever made directed and acted. The film was just pure genius and the soundtrack is a classic.

  • avatar drank dances with wolves milkshake

  • 1 person was bashed over the head with a bowling pin.

  • One person had their milkshake drank.

  • Avatar was just a creative idea, but that doesn't make it good.

  • Comparing Avatar to There Will Be Blood is like comparing Mr. Rogers to Snoop Dogg.

  • your a retard

  • Daniel, What do you think about Avatar? I think...you should tell me what you know and we can work something out. No Daniel, the movie, Avatar....? I see the worst in people. There are times I look at Avatar and I see nothing worth liking....just a bunch blue flying elves getting in the way of drilling. I don't need to look past seeing them to get all that I need.

  • @CMink7777 LOOL

  • I agree, but we people hacve to stop complainiing or discuss about Avatar; it´s not that big deal, come on... It´s already enough with it´s existence, don´t ya think?

Anyway, great atmospheric and neutrally experimental soundtrack. Jonny must dedicates to compose soundtracks more often.

  • My favourite movie! Hands down...

  • :D jhonny jhonny... virtuoso.

  • This piece really embodies the dark side of the film

  • Comparing this movie with Avatar is like comparing Bryant Gumbel with Ice-T

  • Great soundtrack, was tragic it was missing one of the best songs on the soundtrack. YOUTUBE ArvoPart Frates for Cello and Piano. Was the song when HW looses hearing.

  • @taylor102894 It's called "Convergence". It's on Jonny Greenwoods bodysong album.

  • ONe of the most underatted movies in our time, A+ performance by Daniel Day

  • Comparing TWBB to Avatar is like comparing Shostakovich to Miley Cyrus

  • Forgot to say THANKS, sounds great!

  • This piece encapulates the film, Jonny is...

  • movies like this will be remembered...avatar will end up on a burger king soda cups.

  • Yes he is. Radiohead fyi

  • Why are people comparing there will be blood and avatar? Why not Mozart and Britney Spears?

  • @mlsgearon

is Jonny Greenwood is the same person from a band called Raidohead?

  • @mlsgearon true but avatar is great in its own right. much like slumdog, avatar is the "movie for everybody" type of thing. there will be blood will appeal to certain people but just cause this movie is great doesnt mean people can rag on movies that more people wish to see, thats just ignorant. i didnt know there were movie hipsters also.

  • @shegwin I think Avatar was stupid. No offense but I thought it made up for a lot that it lacked with special effects. More popular because it goes to show that people without depth, which is most people, can be captivated by that. I walked out of Avatar.

  • @CMink7777 i agree i watched avatar for five minutes and could never get into it but with There will be blood it was instant

  • Okay, how did I see the movie three times and never figure out that he did the music?

  • Comment removed

  • well cinematography is also lighting within the set and so forth so it was good as well they had to match lighting with the CG effects or vice versa

  • tropicalpimp, i think you'll find what you think was cinematography in avatar was actually the production design. the cinematography was shithouse, and mostly computer generated 3D lighting. TWBB's cinematography is superb.

  • Comment removed

  • Hmmm Avatar and this movie.....not the same thing.....at all.

  • very true but the story to avatar has been done so many times already it just gets the seats full cause its pretty thats it everything about avatar was just ok for me so was the cast.

  • this movie is 100 times better then avatar its so original and top notch acting

  • as much as I would prefer to watch there will be blood over avatar any day,its impossible to compare the two. they both had different intentions in terms of captivating a certain audience. they BOTH of course wanted to make money but again, your'e talking two differnt genres and calibres of not only film making, but acting. You hit it on the head "Top Notch Acting!" avatar cant' compete. in terms of cinematography, avatar,of course, takes it. it depends on what kinda visual effect one desires.

  • @tropicalpimp dude there will be blood had some of the greatest cinematography out there.

  • Avatar is so god damn overrated it's not even funny.

  • @CaptainPengu its not overrated its just liked by the stupid tho it genuinly good work like there will be blood bt ofcrose both are different waaaay different

  • @bushi132001 Totally. People really eat shit like Avatar up with all the special effects included. Plus, if you have seen Pochahantus, you have seen avatar. (same plot) Same old concept: Transformers is bs 2. Just a bunch of explosions and some chick with no plot at all. Movies like TWBB are legendary. Not to mention the incredible score Jonny provided. it added to the film. didnt take away like danny elfman scores do. another great score IMHO is the one from Shutter Island. very moving.

  • @UpperCrustthe3rd Machineguns and Walker pods still own stupid animals and giant blue injuns. Avatars ending was about as cheesey... hell, lest we say it simpler: The ending of Avatar was as cheesey as some crackwhores pussy. I know, I've seen both, and broken up with both.

  • @Roamer117 There Will be Blood was a quality movie, unlike Avatar. Great acting from the entire TWBB cast.

  • @UpperCrustthe3rd Damn right it was, I was just saying Avatar is like a Cheesy vagina... And... well.. Both were disgusting.

There will be Blood however, was FUCKIN AMAZIN!

The Eli-Paul thing was the only thing I got confused over though...

  • @Roamer117 There Will be Blood definitly takes the cake, man. The only thing I liked about Avatar was the huge battle near the end. Avatar took the plot from pochahantas but just used a lot of 3-d graphics to jazz it up.

  • @UpperCrustthe3rd FUCK AVATAR, it is nothing more than an expensive fantasy that brought the 3D plague upon us

  • Why are people on about Avatar??? What the fuck has it got to do with this incredible score? What makes me angry is LOTR soundtrack winning despite being the same fucking music for 3 films and the Academy changing rules, yet this couldn't because of some technicality. If we are going to moan, moan about the drivelling tripe LOTR winning 11 and Slumdog just being nominated was ridiculous. Avatar was immersive. As a cinematic experience nothing comes close. As a film though, TWBB is UNTOUCHABLE!!!

  • @bushi132001 Though I would prefer to watch a film like THERE WILL BE BLOOD instead of Avatar, why would you even try to compare the 2 films? It's like saying "Oatmeal is better than meatloaf!!" It's a redundant point.

  • @tropicalpimp I agree with you in principle but I find your opinions on meatloaf shocking.

  • @bushi132001 even though There Will Be Blood was based on a book

  • @bushi132001 I Agree, because There Will Be Blood is one of my favorite movies of the last ten years. But Avatar and TWBB are totally different movies.

  • @bushi132001 Fuck Avatar.

  • @bushi132001 what is avatar?

  • @bushi132001 dude why are u comparing? ones sci-fi and the other is is pretty damn the realist shit ever far from sic fi , both have similar concepts, greed, power, corruption. but you could have at least picked something thats on the same level as this film.

    lame comment bro!

  • he got a big kninife gonna hack his heaqd right off

  • I love this. I have the same song on my ipod, but it's called Propectors Arrive. And it's longer.

  • Woah, how?

  • I noticed they are differents tunes, thou they are similar. Honest mistake. You can actually find the other tune on related videos with the name i gave above. :)

  • "Get out of here ghost

    Get out of here ghost

    Get out

    ..and IT LEFT!!!!!!"

  • "Let me feel the power of the lord Eli!"

  • BASTARD IN A BASKET!! man,Plainview was a cold son of a bitch. His anger and frustration though is understandable and acceptable when you think of what he went through - physically and emotionally. From starting his OWN oil company to raising a kid that wasn't his just to get spat in the face? This movie was perfect. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Yes, it was a great movie. Being accustomed to the typical action movie, I found it kind of long winded and dull for a while, but it grew on me. I love the soundtrack as well. I had no idea it was by the guitarist of Radiohead at first.

  • TWBB and No Country for Old Men really cast a shadow over every The Wrestler or Avatar that came along the two following years, don't you think?

  • sure did and many other movies. I really like GOMMORAH too. Its a very underrated film that's very powerful. City of God is also another strong film. Few years old but definitly up there when it comes to a movie that makes you hold that piss you had to take 90 minutes ago.

  • Magical.

  • whats the song when Daniels trying to talk to his son but cant and also when Elli is walking to Daniel past the oil pool to get his money and daniel slaps him? I really want to know. That is probably the best song on the soundtrack

  • The song is called "Fratres for Cello" by Arvo Part.

  • omg thank you. Its too bad it wasnt included in the soundtrack

  • it wasnt??

  • I've been looking for this score everywhere! Thanks! ^__^

  • that was probably one of the best parts of the movie...

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing tension. Brilliantly expresses the conscience of Plainview - this shy violin seeking the good, but tragically being frustrated by the constant, demonic drilling noise representing the commercial corruption of his soul and even his country

  • I will never think of this score the same way ever again after your brilliant interpretation of it. Thank you.

  • @Alexandernopolis this deserves more thumbs up than bushi132001's comment.

  • @Alexandernopolis this deserves more thumbs up than bushi132001's comment. well said buddy!

  • @Alexandernopolis wait what?

  • This is beautiful. I so need to watch my "There will be blood" BluRay today.

    Great music.

  • there's a certain version that sounds a lot like 1:20 on but on piano. Anyone know the name? please?

  • nevermind. it's called "prospectors arrive". by the way that's my personal fave from the movie.

  • the full version of the soundtrack features both this version, performed by a quartet, as well as an orchestral version. You are looking for the orchestral version.

  • it was this score that made the movie so down right creepy! yes?

  • Wow. I didn't even realize watching the movie that Jonny did the soundtrack. He's got to be at LEAST one of the greatest musicians of our time...

  • He has unexplainable aesthetic power

  • its my first time hearing the name or his music (which i instantly became in love with). What other works do you recommend?

  • The only other thing I've heard him in is his band Radiohead. They're at LEAST one of the most artistic, creative, thoughtful, and musically talented bands out there. I especially recommend their albums OK Computer and In Rainbows, although pretty much all their music is amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely, totaly agree with you! Ok Computer is one of Radiohead's best!!

  • Bodysong

  • He did a piece called Popcorn Superhet Receiver , he did all of the music for Bodysong (and the album released was named that) which was really interesting, and of course, Radiohead. My favorite album of theirs is Kid A, HANDS DOWN!

  • brilliant

  • I think this is my favorite of the album.

But then again, I am a sucker for violins...

  • Comment removed

  • jonny is a genious honestly

  • I can't believe how Jonny Greenwood was not even nominated for oscar! This is one the best soundtracks written for a movie.

  • He couldn't get a nomination because some of the soundtrack had samples from pre-existing material.

But no doubt, it's probably the greatest film scoring of allll time.

  • Comment removed

  • oh my god i completly agree when you say its one of the greatest film scores of all time, he's much better than bernard herrman or any of those well renouned composers. Greenwood and Mansell are the composers of our generation

  • Better than Bernard Herrmann? You're crazy

  • no, his sampler and take tracks (when he never use) this material from "bodysong"

  • its because he used it for a film earlier back

  • holy shit. this makes me love and admire jonny greenwood even more

  • if you aren't a fan of radiohead, he does all the orchestral work in the band and man, its fucking beautiful stuff

  • well if one had listening to a whole radiohead album, he would completely understand that greenwood is capable of this.

  • I love how the person who composed this WONDERFUL soundtrack is in Radiohead.. random.. haha.. so talented

  • you're an idiot.

  • It is kind of funny... this is so far from what I would expect of anyone in Radiohead. And I LOVE Radiohead

  • does anyone know the name of the soundtrack, when Eli walks down to Daniel asking him for the 10.000 and he slaps him? I've searched everywhere and haven't found it.

  • I've been looking for that too

  • its called "fratres" by arvo part

  • yes, i've found it. Fratres I by arvo pärt.

    Thanks

  • whats the piece of music when daniels reading the diary?

    please help?

  • henry plainview ;)

  • This song produces such great imagery and puts my mind at peace

  • This OST is truly haunting, Greenwood is so talented. I listen to it every time I sit down to write something, it puts me in another place.

  • haha, i do the same thing, perfect for writing.

  • Great comments rockon6191 and dojokonojo. This piece has an ancient and timeless quality, a sense of forboding, adventure, severe beauty and emotional intensity combined. Hypnotic and addictive.

  • Jonny I love you...!!!

  • This is a really great soundtrack. I think I might buy it.

  • me to

  • Wow. This song gives me goosebumps. It feels frightening when there shouldn't be anything to be afraid of, deceptive when nothing is being hidden, sad when nothing is amiss.

  • I suppose then the greatest forte of the old masters was subtlety.

  • he's a really genious... who can mix such a music with scene

  • its an essence that touches the soul; its beautiful; sublime; transcendent. It cant be exacted by the brain, but it can forge the heart. (my stream of consciousness at work hehe)

  • Yes. I know what u mean...

  • Definately one of my favorite tracks from the OST...

Also great ones: Prospectors Arrive (my personal favorite) and Future Markets.

  • love, passions and emotions inside his hands, inside his brain ,inside his soul ,inside his heart!sir greenwood you are a GENIUS!

  • fuking brillIANT SOOong to a brilliant film!

  • johnny doesn't make music he makes orgasmic sex

  • peace to everyone, my friends.

  • Bajamboreeeeee!

  • guitarist are talented

you know, i'm sick of people labelling guitarist saying that the only music they know and listen to is rock and they aren't musically talented

  • My favorite track from the film. Kind of interesting that a modern successful rock guitarist composed the score for an Academy Award nominated movie set in the early 1900's lol.

  • i have this album and love it. i want to get into this type of music- good quartet music!.

dose anybody know of any good composers or albums, anything will do

  • try the kronos quartet, or maybe stuff by shostakovich

this track is awesome, makes me want to cry

  • check out johnny greenwood's other soundtrack "bodysong". It is much much more experimental, but it definitely has it's beautiful moments like this.

  • as amazing as jon brion is, i don't think he could have done anything for twbb that even compares to this

  • So sad, so sweet, so bitter- perfect.

  • i absolutely adore this song

  • is anyone else completely aggrivated that he wasn't nominated for an academy award for this? just because a classical song (can't remember which) was used in the movie, he wasn't eligible.

  • I think about (or just over) half of the score was stuff done either by other composers or his own past work.

He used Brahms, Arvo Part, and Penderecki (according to a comment below this one).

...so I guess it's not entirely unfair - but still a bummer.

  • this was my favorite part music-wise in the movie

  • I'm so glad Colin Greenwood asked if Jonny could be in Radiohead, cause of he didn't Jonny would probably be a unheard session musician!

  • At first time I heared I think that is Bela Bartok but is Jonny Greenwood, is much similar but is very beautifull and amazing!
