  • How does one transfer all data from the old to new Hard drive before installing the new HD.

  • You replaced a western digital with a shitgate? LOL

  • Hello,

my name is Vincenzo and i would like chamge my original hard disk with SSD...Do you think is it possible?

  • @sccvcn Should be

  • Thanks for making these videos ... the HDD in my iMac recently failed and these videos were a great help in removing the factory HDD and installing a new one. Just installing the OS on the new drive now, so fingers are still crossed. But I figure if I've made it this far, it should be fine.

  • Your videos are brilliant, My iMac (late 2006 ) went into a restart loop, It apparently would not mount the Drive. Apple were useless. Suggestion was to reinsert/replace the ram..no good, eventually decided drive was crammed full and failed. Followed your videos and replaced with Samsung, all apparently uneventful but the iMac will not start up. It is as dead as a Dodo!, I have reinserted the old drive, ram etc and nothing seems loose or unattached, Help

  • hi i have a 24" imac intel core 2 duo, but i was wondering if the INTEL is upgradeable to the new INTELS that just came out? Thanls, if anyone knows let me know

  • Thanks.

  • I have a 24 inch imac like your imac and have a 1tb hard drive and 4 gtb memorys. Can I upgrade my HD to 2tb HD internal? Is there any hd size different (not the Capacity size, but the hardware itself ) then regular internal hard drive?

I will be doing a lot of graphic design and video editing on this machine.

  • Hi there,

You just need to make sure the drive is a 3.5inch SATA drive, and you should be fine.

  • Can I put a 2TB in there? Will the board recognize it?

  • very great tutorial i did that too , but is there any way to remove the 2 gig of ram blockade on the early 2006 model? like is this a motherboard problem or more like a firmware problem , because the mac is not able to adress more than 2 gig of ram and if you inserted more, it will not boot up. i looked on the apple homepage and it said that is simply "not makeable" ... please help, thanks and i subscribed ;)

  • You know you are the ONLY one that solved my problem of that "drive not showing up " thing, no one else showed it in their videos when swapping hard drives, and i thank you sir!!! you even mentioned the jumpers although it would have been better if you showed what settings the jumpers were at and mentioned that different drives come with different set number of pins to place a jumper one, etc, etc. but GREAT JOB!! I THANK YOU!!!

  • seriously not that big a deal... the real-world odds of him actually causing any damage are remarkably low...

  • While I am replacing the hard drive I would like to replace the internal modem also. Can you show how this is done, and can a substitute be used?

  • In replacing the hard drive, you neglected to tell me what I do with the mother board that is attached to the hard drive. Do I take it off and put it on the replacement HD or does the replacement come with a new one?

  • You assumed in your video that knew what I was doing. If you would have held up the hard drive and explained what the text on the case was and what hard drives could be used as replacement. As it was I replaced the same exact HD back in my computer, while I might have opted for a different one had you told me what would fit. I have the Western Digita 160 and for a few more dollars think I could have put in a 500, but I did not know if it would fit. I left well enough alone.

  • I feel rather like a bit of an idiot, but when replacing my HDD, I neglected to replace those two silver screws on the side of the hard drive, so the plastic tab is pretty much doing the work of holding it in place.

I had some difficulty reassembling it, and I'd rather not have to replace it. (Mostly out of laziness...) You feel I'll have any problems with it in the future? (for the record, it's working wonderfully now.)

  • Update: I decided to go back into the belly of the beast, and I put the screws in, and now I can say with 100% confidence that this hard drive will last me.

The way I figured, I'd inconvenience myself now, rather than have to do it later.

  • Well said Bro, Hope you can help us locate its internal battery too. I might as well replace it coz of PRAM issues, you know... just a guide. Thanks in advance Elliot.

  • I am getting ready to repair my G5 saving 100's of dollars doing so. Thank you for showing me how to do it.

  • you don't need to unscrew the "lever". firmly use the lever as a door handle and pull gently. the hard drive will come out easily.

  • It is running great, haven't had a problem with it yet!

  • Small error. At 2:18, you remove the black clip from the drive. Don't do this. Simply lift up the black clip and pull the drive out. THEN remove the screws to attach the drive. Apple put that there so you didn't have to remove the screws before you remove the drive.

  • OH ok. thanks for the tip! I thought it was a little tricky the way I was doing it :-)

  • I had to remove the black clip as it held the Hard Drive fast to the computer frame. I tried to lift the HD off first and could not do it. You can see where it holds fast.

Also, I did not have the proper screw driver for these screws. They are really small. I bought two sets of screwdrivers and none worked. I finally used a pair of snipper nose pliers and slowly unscrewed the screw.

  • thanks this helped.
