It seems to me that whenever I saw a profound, deeply moving, or even delightfully funny film, it was Mr. Bernstein's name I found in the credits. This video is a much appreciated gift. Thank-you!
There's so many emotions and feelings to be felt in film music. From Bernstein to Goldsmith to Jarre to Williams to Shire to Horner to Rosza to Steiner to Barry. Whatever emotion I want to feel I can find it within a great film score. It's a beautiful thing and I love sharing it with my children.
No composer over the years has surpassed "To Kill a Mockingbird" like Mr. Bernstein in capturing the feelings of childhood and all of the innocence with his music. I can hear the first few notes of the piano and go back 40 years ago in time. Thank you, Elmer! May you rest in peace.
I fell in love w/Mr. Bernstein when I was 8 yrs. old, sitting in my family's car at the drive-in to see To Kill a Mockingbird on a hot Georgia night. Since those gentle, haunting notes in the opening credits, his music never has left me.
I wrote a fan e-mail to him at his website in 2002, & amazingly received a gracious response. He even sent me personally autographed CDs of the soundtracks for Mockingbird & Far From Heaven, which I treasure.
Can anyone believe he didn't win an Oscar for To Kill A Mockingbird? Instead it went to Maurice Jarre for Lawrence of Arabia! Come on I love Jarre but he would eventually win for Dr. Zhivago.
May Elmer Bernstein and Maurice Jarre rest in peace. May their music live on especially for new generations of movie-goers, music-lovers and musicians.
How could anyone dislike this?

Elmer was quite special. He could compose in just about any style -- and do it equally well.

Jim you blew it: it's "The Man with the Golden Arm" -- Not "Gun". "The Man with the Golden Gun" was a James Bond Movie.

I think Ghostbusters is highly underrated, and since I am partial to that, I love Spies like us too. Awesome.

The man's a legend an icon of film scoring. His ever young spirit is the father of my favorite score of all time: Heavy Metal.

I was at that concert. What's with the crappy synth music at the very beginning over the photo of Bovard Auditorium?

@AnyaAngie Do they play any selections from The Ten Commandments in this tribute? I skimmed through it and could not find any. :(
