  • How could anyone dislike this?

  • ''...only the farmers won...''.

  • It seems to me that whenever I saw a profound, deeply moving, or even delightfully funny film, it was Mr. Bernstein's name I found in the credits. This video is a much appreciated gift. Thank-you!

  • Elmer was quite special. He could compose in just about any style -- and do it equally well.

  • What a great tribute to Mr.Bernstein. Congratulations to USC and Research Channel and thanks a lot.

  • Bernstein composed so many great scores -- the man was incredibly talented.

  • Eu sou fã de Elmer...do seu trabalho, principalmente as canções que ele compôs para filmes de western!

  • a life well spent, indeed!

  • LOL, at 6:45 he confused Elmer with Leonard...

  • There's so many emotions and feelings to be felt in film music. From Bernstein to Goldsmith to Jarre to Williams to Shire to Horner to Rosza to Steiner to Barry. Whatever emotion I want to feel I can find it within a great film score. It's a beautiful thing and I love sharing it with my children.

  • you said it so magnificently!

    couldn't say it better!

  • Amen, sir.

  • Don't forget Herrmann to Korngold.

  • At 16:02, beautiful theme, sadly rejected for the movie....what were those guys thinking???

  • @GJosephCamargo Because Hollywood is full of wankers! I should know, mate, I worked there.

  • Jim you blew it: it's "The Man with the Golden Arm" -- Not "Gun". "The Man with the Golden Gun" was a James Bond Movie.

  • No composer over the years has surpassed "To Kill a Mockingbird" like Mr. Bernstein in capturing the feelings of childhood and all of the innocence with his music. I can hear the first few notes of the piano and go back 40 years ago in time. Thank you, Elmer! May you rest in peace.

  • A genius of staggering talent, heart and vigor -- So much range, from exquisite love themes to towering Westerns and Epics.

Rest in Peace, Elmer Bernstein - your soul goes on forever,,,,,,,,,

  • ten comandments= perfect bible study music

  • Congratulations for an excellente concert! I wanted to know who made the arrangement on the National Geographic Fanfare, I though was exeptional!

  • I fell in love w/Mr. Bernstein when I was 8 yrs. old, sitting in my family's car at the drive-in to see To Kill a Mockingbird on a hot Georgia night. Since those gentle, haunting notes in the opening credits, his music never has left me.

I wrote a fan e-mail to him at his website in 2002, & amazingly received a gracious response. He even sent me personally autographed CDs of the soundtracks for Mockingbird & Far From Heaven, which I treasure.

    He was my hero. Peace.

  • u r very fortunate!!!

  • @HarperLee55 Oh man you totally rule now!!!!

  • I think Ghostbusters is highly underrated, and since I am partial to that, I love Spies like us too. Awesome.

  • The man's a legend an icon of film scoring. His ever young spirit is the father of my favorite score of all time: Heavy Metal.

  • Love the ten commandments but this

  • Can anyone believe he didn't win an Oscar for To Kill A Mockingbird? Instead it went to Maurice Jarre for Lawrence of Arabia! Come on I love Jarre but he would eventually win for Dr. Zhivago.

  • May Elmer Bernstein and Maurice Jarre rest in peace. May their music live on especially for new generations of movie-goers, music-lovers and musicians.

  • I was at that concert. What's with the crappy synth music at the very beginning over the photo of Bovard Auditorium?

  • Yep.

Saturn 3, Heavy Metal, Airplane! and so many more.

He was one of the best!

  • The greatest screen composer of them all... and "To kill a mockingbird" is the best film score ever.Wonderful to hear some of the rarer pieces too.

  • I'm partial to The Ten Commandments myself!

  • @AnyaAngie Do they play any selections from The Ten Commandments in this tribute? I skimmed through it and could not find any. :(
