This video isn't described as Just Incredible because of the shots that Kohlschreiber makes, it's called Just Incredible because he can return Roddick's serve :-3
jesus unbelievable stuff from Kohlschreiber, some of the most outrageous bh winners ive ever seen, he was just hitting them for fun from any position and were all landing in, shame i havn't seen him play this well since,
the problem with roddick is that he gets returns chipped back and he backs up and waits for the ball to come to him instead of moving in and taking it out of the air or on the rise... kohli is amazing, I wish he was on TV more
I think every single guy with a one hander has a great one hander, and IMO, they are all beautiful backhands. Almagro, Gasquet, Federer, Haas, Kohlschreiber, Youzhny, Ljubicic, Wawrinka, Dimitrov. Apart from Federer, all these guys's backhands are their more potent shots. Retired players with great single handers are Gaudio, Lendl, Stich, Rafter, Edberg, Becker, Kuerten, Sampras (although his forehand was much, much better).
i believe kohlschreiber has the most beautiful tennis of the atp tour. after quiting tennis for 13 years i lost my 2 handed backhand and i do everything i can now to copy his backhand. lol.
damn i wish i could have seen this match LIVE in the stadium... btw i met Kohlschreiber a few times in Halle... he´s really nice and is so down to earth guys i can tell you
Just echoing the sentiments of everyone else...really talented player, but just can't put this level of play together on a consistent basis. Hell a couple weeks ago he won one of the warmup tournaments (Halle) and lost in the first round at Wimbledon to fucking Denis Istomin...DENIS ISTOMIN! Come on Kohli, you're better than that!!!
Incredible match. I remember missing the whole thing more than three years ago now. I left for work at 2-2 in the first set thinking Roddick was on his way to the fourth round. When I got home Kohlschreiber had match point. I was like 'What!!' It was such an amazing game. The shame was this match was the reason Connors left Roddick. His mother had just passed away, but he still came to australia to support Roddick. He was left disheartened after this exit.
Yep, but tennis is about consistency, if he played like that all the time or most of the time he'd be ranked higher, but he's certainly capable of it.
@doofynetgraouw With all due respect to those 4 i venture to say that Nicolas Almagro has without a doubt the most superb one handed backhand in tennis and maybe ever ... if youve never seen it live you owe it to yourself ... i would say Kohli's is a close second!!!
It's crazy that Roddick was even able to force a 5th set the way Kohly was murdering the ball. He clearly ate his wheaties that morning. I've never seen anyone hit the ball harder than in this match. It must have just been one of those few days a year that every tennis player has where they just can't find anything but the very center of their racket.
Kohschreiber's one weakness in terms of shots is that he doesn't have the necessary power to play like this consistently. He's what, 180 cm or 5'10-5'11? He hits it hard for a smaller built player, but I think power and consistency is what really does him in. The other thing is belief. He's been real good at staying around the top 30 the last 3-4 years, but he's got no real breakthrough at a big tournament.
@davd1986 Agassi, Borg, Mac, Connors, Hewitt, Davydenko, Ferrer, Simon, Rochus, Santoro, Nalbandian around 5"10' or smaller... there are pros and cons for both big and small. i think 6"1' is the perfect height though and laver was 5"8 too
@AceGuitarR7 True. Sampras, Federer, Nadal: all at 6'1/185cm! LOL. Rochus is an incredible talent, something that Federer says himself. Here's a guy who is 5'5/5'6, but has excellent mechanics, moves well and is a fighter, pity we haven't seen more of him. Simon is very interesting and one of the more unorthodox players. Besides being very scrawny, he kind of has the roddick/kafelnikov straight arm extenstion on the backhand side and a soderling-esque forehand. It looks very stiff.
@davd1986 yeh rochus is a freak... lol he must be an incredible ball striker. i myself am 5"10, 5"11 with shoes on which is a bit over the average height but for tennis i think its basically border line but i feel so disadvantaged. i have to make up for it by going for a lot more on my shots. i think with extra height helps on the serve, not so much ground strokes. you get alot more "easy power" and more clearnace over the net.
In this match, Kohlschreiber's game is beautiful to watch. A trrue talent. But he can't play like this every time. This is the difference between extremely talented tennis players and Federer.
I'm speechless. Never seen that many amazing backhands, not even fed. Holy Shit. If this guy played like this everyday, he would be unstoppable. periods. Fed at his best can't play like this, i dont think. Or even Nadal or any of the top 10.
Pound-for-pound kohlschreiber has more firepower than anyone on tour. The guy's like a buck-forty, tops... any probably the only guy capable of serving his own weight.
don't compare kohlschreiber to nalbandian, nalbandian is at another level, id compare kohlschreiber to someone like gulbis, but nalbandian is much better
@1995Alexander If he played like this every time he probably would be one. The only reason it went the distance and was close because Roddick was playing really good as well
a very talend player....probbly needs to flatten out forehand and cross court backhand or atleast hit them deep to find more success against the big boys
Yeah, he does. He's incredibly gifted. Like Nalbandian he hasn't made the most of it yet though. Although, he's only 26 and has shown flashes of brilliant matches. Hopefully he's a late bloomer and will start to come into his own.
Kohlschreiber does seem to play really well at and against "better" (or higher ranked, or consistently playing better) though. He steps it up. Great competitor, great athlete.

Roddick can win US Open champion 2011.
But Roddick need a little bit change, after Roddick do it, Roddick's dream will come true, I am 100% sure. I am serious.
I think Roddick can win Wimbledon champion 2012 and US Open champion 2012.
