Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Niyazov was 1st secretary of the Turkmen communist party when the USSR dissolved. Like all the other Stan leaders, he took over as President for life.
Not many dictators die unchallenged & still in power (Stalin, Mao, etc.) but fortunately, for all his former earthly power, this man is now dust & hopefully being punished for crimes of meglamania & ego.
