hey guys if you type wallaby17171 feste into the search bar you can see me perform my last song. I fuckin loved playing feste the jester and just wanted some of you guys to check it out. It's a high school shakespeare company thats lasted for 37 years.
@festmeable You "fucking loved playnig Feste"? Nice language, there, you filthy troll. Your site must be some Israeli porn trash. Go away, oven dodger.
It gives a very echo to the seat where love is throned!
One of the most brilliantly directed parts of this scene has to be after that last line - sung with such unbearable sincerity and true anger at the acknowledgment - 'Youth's a stuff will not endure', when the song stops and Maria turns away and Feste bites his thumb and everyone is so utterly exposed.
I think that might be, for me, the most powerful part of this film.
That or 'My father had a daughter loved a man'. Ahh wreck my heart!
O mistress mine, where are you roaming? O, stay and hear; your true love's coming, That can sing both high and low: Trip no further, pretty sweeting; Journeys end in lovers meeting, Every wise man's son doth know. What is love? 'tis not hereafter; Present mirth hath present laughter; What's to come is still unsure: In delay there lies no plenty; Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty, Youth's a stuff will not endure.
O mistress mine, where are you roaming?/Stay and here your true loves coming, That can sing both high and low (x2)/Trip no further, pretty Sweeting,/Journey's end in lovers' meeting;/Every wise man son doth know. (x2)/What is love? 'tis not hereafter,/Present mirth hath present laughter./What's to come is still unsure. (x2)/In delay there lies no plenty,/Then come kiss me sweet and twenty/Youth's a stuff will not endure. (x4)
The way Ben Kingsley feels Feste's agony in the last line--harrowing
I love when Ben Kingsly is singing during this scene. His first song is just BEAUTIFUL, but he looked like he was really having a lot of fun during the short little part afterward. Anyone know what they were saying?
I saw this at the Duke of York theatre in London on Tuesday.....it was really good. Richard Wilson played Malvolio. James Fleet was fab as Sir Andrew! Nothing beats this film though, this is my favourite Shakepeare film by far. Such a beautiful song, but I adore the version of 'Come away death' in this film. Its such a beautiful tune!
this song is beautiful. it is my favorite in the entire play. when my class watched the movie we were all joking about. but when this song came on everyone shut up and they apriciated what is possibly one of the most amazing pieces of music ever made.
im playing sir Andrew in a production of twelth night soon can't wait for it, especially now i have the influence of richard e grant, now it should all go swimmingly.
Yeah, I felt the same! It was kind of weird because I wanted they to kiss, but she was wearing that mustache and there was an atmosphere with Feste singing... It's awesome, I think that is the best part.
I couldn't find the clip, but I thought the scene was funny when Feste sings to Orsino and Viola (as Cesario) and the two of them almost kiss, with Viola still in her Cesario garb.
My whole class was watching it, and we all held our breath as they almost kissed.
Yeah, my dad's getting me it for Christmas, i asked him where i could get it months ago as i was studying it for GCSE English, and he said I'll get it off amazon for you
I'm sorry, I´m afraid I didn't understand you. When he asked "How dost thou like this tune?", she answers: "It gives a very echo to the seat where love is throned." I wrote before what she says when he enters and says "That old and antique song..."
Well, I' tell you, I unserstand "He is no here, so please your lordship..." and then, something like "push sing it." I know it makes no sense, but it sounds like that. Anyway, what I put below is what the script says.
Well, she must say "He is no here, so please your lordship, that should sing it", but I don't understand that. Actually, I seldom understand what she says, because she speaks too fast. It's a pity, she is a wonderful actress
just saw this movie for the first time this past weekend and it's bloody marvelous...but then again, I love GOOD film version of Shakespeare's plays (skip the 1995 & 1996 versions of "Richard III" & "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet")
Now Thats What I Call Poetry !!
Oh dear Lord. I saw this back in 1997 methinks! And to think that 10 years later to watch Feste and Maria (or rather, Dolores Umbridge of Harry Potter!) singing this lovely song! (^_^)v Twelfth Night rocks, and so does Harry Potter! LOL
I've been looking for a copy of the song, too, or trying to make one--if I manage, I'll hook you up--but I'm pretty sure the songs would run by the titles of the poems; for example, "The Rain It Raineth Every Day" is actually Shakespeare's "When That I Was And A Little Tiny Boy."
Ben Kingsley has a most wonderful voice. He is the perfect person to play Feste. I could listen to that voice for hours.

@Nirshan30 Hehehee, I think he's exaggerating the accent here. Ben Kinglsey's actually of indian descending.

I'm 14, and I saw this written in the London Underground Poetry Book.
I didn't even know it was an actual song, but I memorized it anyway and it led me to start reading (not to mention falling in love) with Shakespeare.
So thank you, Feste! Your one song has changed me.
