  • I think this sounds as good now to me as it did back then - and I'm not thinking about evoking all memories - I think this kind of sound is as good now as it was back then.

  • My favorite Simple Minds album! Thanks for posting.

  • @debkakes I like empires and dance and new gold dream, though I start to like real to real too :)

  • seen them loads in Glasgow on the cheap before the commercial explosion, imagine a band like that today.... thats right loads of copies out there...remember the masters.

  • Ning Nang Nong.......

  • I wish we were back in the 80 's...

  • @Shine5757 Me too! I have wished that so many times and have thought of so many things that I would have done more of, clubbing, more concerts, much more fun even though I had an amazing time then I'd still go back and do it better!

  • @DollyBright Did you see them live ? I did in early 83; at that period i was soing quite often to see bands (ramones, siouxsie, clash, etc)

  • @Shine5757 Yes I was fortunate enough and they were so AMAZING :-))

  • Really wonderful song.

-But one of the band should have said something to Jim Kerr about his 'Blackadder-The-First' haircut.

    -Lol!

  • Reel To Reel Cacophany is their FIRST album I still have it on vinyl hadly played in fantastic condition how is it that no one seems to remember this album?

  • @DollyBright Sorry, but Real to Reel Cacophony was their second album, Life in a Day was released early in 1979 and RTRC was released near the end of the year.

  • @Beelzebubbbbles Yes, Sorry I realised that when I managed to get ALL my vinyl down from the loft I totally got that wrong but they were still fantastic at that time. Pity after New Gold Dream they seemed to lose their originality and TBH I was listening to a later album and realised that too many songs just sounded the same but it's not till you look or listen back you realise how much they changed and what a shame cos they were amazing to begin with :-(

  • Good song. Like a mix between Roxy Music and Bowie.

  • love the song but was kind of ruined when they used the soundtrack to runescape :(

  • Remember that 80,s soap opera BROOKSIDE? they ripped LIFE IN A DAY off for the theme tune. SM live on,

  • @leebedy71 Yeah but Simple Minds was also pretty good at ripping off Brian Eno for this song :) It's good though

  • Been a MINDS fan for 27 years! the early stuff is still some off the best?

  • check out my life in a day leaked clip i wanted o show you all...its great

  • This is FANTASTIC! I was totally in love with this song, and i still am...

  • Early Simps absolutely the best. In love with synths and eye-shadow. Lost it a bit under the baleful influence of U2, but up to I Travel, brilliant band. Saw them at Mars Bar Glasgow round about time of Chelsea Girl, great night. Good bands back then, Simps, Skids, Positive Noise, Endgames, Orange Juice. Anything happening in Glasgow musically these days (I live in Beijing)?

  • Very underrated album. One of their best!

  • Why do i think of Brookside when i hear the start of this tune?

  • @19bootsy68 ha ha i know what you mean.it is dead like brookie!

  • Comment removed

  • @msshortbread1 Haaa...im not stupid..as you know what im talking about...i think it sounds like the very first Brookeside theme tune the one in the 80's How boring am i talking about Brookefuckingside? anyway im off to find the start of another tune that reminds me of a tv show.. i think ill look for the start of Crossroads another classic British tv show.

  • @19bootsy68 if you still have a record player and a copy of "Real to reel" try playing "Film Theme" at 45 instead of 33,I love it like that :)

  • @WillCrazie The next time im at my sisters i've give it a try ;)

  • Their early stuff was their best. Very creative and interesting music.

  • i agree they were shite after new gold dream

  • Simple Minds in the late 70s and on

forth. What a class act of original

sound. I wonder what happen to the band members and if they're still

together. But I'm sure they are still

    out there somewhere... alive and

    kickin.

  • Shame they sort of got a reputation as a poor man's U2 when they became more successful. Their early stuff was ahead of it's time in my opinion. Brilliant debut album. Life In A Day and Pleasantly Disturbed are my faves. Their later stuff is great aswell though - just very different, to me anyway.

  • "Chelsea Girl" was a good tune from this album.

  • life in a day.....yee

  • Life in a Day - great album, much derided by fans and the band themselves. Me, I prefer their early stuff before they became commercially successful. Saw them at Middlesbrough Rock Garden in 1979 and they were awesome. Maybe they should reform the original line-up and do what Sparks did last year!

  • Surely Franz Ferdinand ripped off Edinburgh's The Fire Engines rather than The Simple MInds? No matter what, this is still a great great song after all these years.

  • Will probably be the first and last time i ever agree with a Rangers fan but 'Gaffer' is spot on. Early Simple Minds were easily better than any other Glasgow bands. Although i have a wee soft spot for 'Gun' and 'The Blue Nile'.

  • This song is awesome and takes me back to when I was 13! Rock on the Minds!

  • This song' great when your zonin, to get the full effect nothing beats the original LP.

  • Best glasgow band ever..franz ferdinand are pish in comparison

  • Snow Patrol, Travis, and Jesus & Mary Chain are good bands from Glasgow!

  • There are lots of good bands from Glasgow,Altered Images,Bluebells,Loyd Cole and the Commotions,Aztec Camera but early Simple Minds were by far the best in my opinion

  • Don't forget Billy Connolly's ''Welly-Boot Song''.......musical genius or what ?

    lol

  • now your talking

  • lol

  • See, one listen to this and you'll realize that Franz Ferdinand isn't so original after all. These Glaswegians were doing it first and better!

  • Had the same thought myself.Very similar to Franz Ferdinand.

  • Probably their best song from their debut album. Unhinged post punk pop that gets under your skin. Still sounds fresh 30 years on.

  • Good Song

  • I'm 16 and I love this song...I'm probably the only teenager here on YouTube with a good taste in music.

  • 16 is old enough to know better. Good for you kid! The new generation is tone deaf ..soonner or later they come around ..

  • Top Tune !!

reminds me of college my days

  • Still got this in the attic.Sound.

  • Still their best song, by a long way. Love it.

  • Pure synths at the start.

    This is just bloody great.

    Love it. <3

  • quality

  • Oh yeeeah !!!.Remember my old man threatening to break down my bedroom door as I belted this out full-blast. Best start digging through my vinyl.

  • Ahh this brings back some scary and cool memories :-) Cool song!

  • Yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is sooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent !!!!!

  • brilliant

  • i really love this song!!!
