  • Amazing

  • Fabulous, warming & welcoming. Thank you for posting...

  • Beautiful, moving cover

  • Edie Brickell seems like she was born a generation too late.

  • @Encom7 Absolutely! She is an underated artist of our time. Married to Paul Simon, so much talent in that household...

  • good cover. war is hell...but you gotta love the heat.

  • walk off the earth cover is the very best!

  • Great song. No matter who sings it. Each artist brings their own interpretation to the table. The important part in my opinion is the text.

I've just heard the Reggae version from Jimmy Cliff's EP Sacred Fire. Check it out. It's worth a listen or two.

  • I'm sure I'm alone in this...actually, I kinda doubt it...but I've yet to hear a Dylan cover that I didn't like better than Bob's. AMAZING song writer, but I really like every cover I hear better....but no one could do everyone must get stoned or hurricane better than Bob, so no one dare tries....

  • a wonderful version, .. I love her voice so much ...

  • she was meant for this song.

  • love it millllll

  • "I know my song well before I start singin' " people should remember this wise thought more often...

  • she's good man

  • ahh...her voice is ridiculously beautiful...

  • A good rendition of the original but the orig is best...the words are just as powerful...god bless us all

  • this was written by bobby d after he watched TV nonstop for 6 hrs. he was inspired by the famous poem-writer Eddie Edwina Cummings

  • you have to reassemble w/o the spaces the

abbreviated URL in the next comment

you may have to add the usual prefix

I'm jackpot appreciative of Google, but that appears necessary.

  • Edie Brickell's style has been imitated muchly. Note if you care this: goo . gl / 09v6q Because of reasons per my profile, I'm interested in knowing where on or near the Syracuse University campus she was singing when Ronnie Kovic realized those who would deny equality (maybe freedom too) were fighting those who would deny freedom (maybe equality too.) just leave a place here for my knowing then go there and rediscover that

  • /watch?v=xSw446taHWU

    BEST COVER EVER

  • love the movie, and the soundtrack isnt bad either! ;)

  • This was the first version of the song I ever heard. I was just a kid when it came out and I was in love with it. Later on my mom introduced me to Dylan. It changed my life.

  • Love Edie's voice and instrumentation...with all due respect to Bob Dylan's original, this version is much easier on the ears.

  • american boys, just dont follow yer chieftainship,

and the world will be a better place.

  • Awesome acoustic guitar!

  • Yeah, I really like this version ... so much passion!!

  • yeah bob dylan is much better. the original. but this version isn't bad, just not as.... epic as bob dylan lol

  • que pedo pelukas

  • What a pathetic shit for retarded USAssholes,hehehe..

  • I love this song (-:

  • my teacher loves this song but I think it'sdepressing and unusual and it creeps me out

  • Hard rain is falling, and will fall even harder until my mission is over. Oh if i knew my mission i'd do it, My dust would be blowin in the wind... i am not allowed to die till its done. ive survived too many near deaths. Now im scared to keep living. Its hard.

  • @bbgerarddd. I would gladely accept a world without "Bob Dylan" if we had no wars. And you guess what, i think he would to.

  • Thank you thank you... Its a great version and you made my day for uploading it. Cheers

  • "THIS SONG GOES OUT TO ALL OUR MEN AND WOMEN OF THE US MILITARY!

WE LOVE YOU, WE SUPPORT YOU! COME HOME SAFE & SOON.." - If it wasn't for guys like the above Dylan's songs would have no poignancy...When are you people going to learn????????????????????????????

  • incredible lyrics!

  • THIS SONG GOES OUT TO ALL OUR MEN AND WOMEN OF THE US MILITARY!

WE LOVE YOU, WE SUPPORT YOU! COME HOME SAFE & SOON...

MY DAD WAS AIR FORCE BACK IN THE LATE 60'S EARLY 70'S. HE TOOK ME TO SEE THIS AT AGE 9...IT BROUGHT HIM TO HIS KNEES, REMEMBERING ALL THE MEN HE SENT OUT IN JETS THAT NEVER CAME BACK...THEN HE TOLD ME ABOUT HOW HE HELPED HIS FRIENDS WIFE BURY THEIR BABY WHEN IT DIED ON THE BASE. DEPRESSION HAS TAKEN OVER MY DAD FOR 37 YEARS OF MY LIFE...GOD KEEP ALL OF YOU SAFE AND SANE XOX

  • This is far better than Dylan...

  • Great song... well sung!!!

  • ummm why has no one ever made one of these for She from shooting rubberbands Its a great song AND A GREAT ALBUM i see none of those songs on here. WTF if i knew how to make a vid I would but I don"t so some one please do IT!!!!!

  • THE definitive cover. Although the notion that a cover can't improve on a Dylan original is quite absurd, in THIS particularly hauntingly lyrical piece, there's no real comparing; it's apples and oranges. BOTH (original & cover) are masterful classics. Greatest praise, though, goes to the writer of the melody and, especially, the poignant lyrics. One flaw of the cover: not a single word of those lyrics should have been cut. Still: a powerful moment in a powerful film of a powerful true story.

  • I thought Thomas Cruise should have won an Oscar for his performance in that film.

  • It's not just her voice and Dylan's songwriting. The arrangement is outstanding.

  • Her voice is timeless

  • Yeah it's ok

  • awesome

  • shame tis greast song is tributing a nazi army

americans just stay away from the rest of the world,

you are too third world to conquer anything else than malta

  • @sideburnbasher mmm..u sure? Let see. 2nd world war: inglorious victory only thank to atomic bomb. Corea : dishonourable armistice. Vietnam: dreadful defeat. Iraqi 1: fear for consequences and stop. Iraqi 2 : escape from death desert. Afgh: war against ghosts. The only war won by US is genocid of native american people using rifles and smallpox infected blanket against bows and arrows. People without history, land of crass ignorance, exporters of fake democracy, YOU ARE third world.

  • @SCOPOtuaMADRE

    you are taling my words.

either you are highly ironic or you are on drugs or suniing.

    wierd

  • @sideburnbasher

Your country started two world wars and were the actual Nazis. Germany has to do what we tell you to because you're a warlike and genocidal people. What kind of drugs were you taking whan you posted that delusional and hypocritical drivel about the US here, boy?

  • @gebis

Oh, looky here, Austrian? You must be so proud of your native sons, Adolf Hitler, Kurt Waldheim, Georg Haider, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Austria: the birthplace of Nazis.

  • @gebis

It's a shame you felt the need to destroy this beautiful song with your vile Austrian Nazism.

  • I think it's important to draw a line between a cover and an interpretation. This, like Jason Mraz's and Joan Baez's versions, is pretty much a cover; yeah, there will be some stylistic variations, but basically, it's the same song played on different instruments/voices. On the other hand, Leon Russell and Bryan Ferry's studio versions are interpretations: they keep or amplify the original's edge, but give it a very different personality. At any rate, one can pick a favorite without condemning.

  • I cant find it on i tunes

  • Bob carries this song with ugly reality this version is nice but not as good as Bob

    cause you can't f @#k with Bob

  • @MrBadkarma35 couldn't agree with that more

  • @MrBadkarma35 I love Edie, but Bob IS the THE MAN!

  • Fabulous!!!

  • ¡El tema de Dylan, majestuosa letra, pero la versión que hace la Brickell, te paran los pelos, es alucinante e impresionante esta tía, me fascina, buena canción, gracias por subirla, saludos!!

  • and its hard its hard its hard its hard rains ganna fall

    i love that bit

  • From the 1989 movie Born on the Fourth of July starring Tom Cruise.

  • Boy! People on youtube will argue over any and everything!! Dylan's version is great...this is good, I can do without both! :))

  • @defendant420 dylan isn´t good, dylan is god in this case :-)

  • how could anyone say this is better than dylan's? Sure she can sing but this has no emotion or feel...at least with dylans version you get it,you feel the apocalyptic theme.

This version does an awful job of portraying the emotion of the actual lyrics GET REAL

  • solo con escuchar la voz de Edie me emociono, mirando a mis dos pequeños hijos

Santiago y Lucas, gracias Dylan y Edie Magistral---

  • These lyrics are so good. Cheers to Dylan!!

  • Jaredf921. Didn't stretch a syllable in what I corresponded to you. What really irks me is that Sony has taken down the sites of Dylan's live performances of The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll. I suggested a boycott of all Sony products on that particular song site until they change their tune concerning what's available on you tube. Sony, is where the green is the color and money is their intention . . . and I write my words well before I start a typing! Screw them. Agree with me people.

  • The touching endearments to the "darling young one" sound even more beautiful when sung by a woman. I think these lovely words are more suggestive of a mother's love than a father's. Though the average father can obviously have such feelings for his boy, he is not very likely to express them directly. Or am I being out of date and unfair to modern fathers? Blame it on Edie. Her voice just tears my heart out.

  • Jaredf921. Thanks for the compliment. That means my therapist is correct in that I have a fantastic photographic memory. It has to be close to 25 years since I've seen that album cover. Wait until you become my age and try to read the liner notes on a CD or tape. Good luck on that. My sons have all my old albums. Tapes have become dinosaurs and I haven't inserted a CD in nearly a year. Just wish I had an ipod when I craved ear candy in the craziest way imaginable while uh.. uh.. uh.. traveling.

  • This is a great cover of an even greater song. Poignantly picturesque. Every sentence could be a song. That is the ultimate claim any song could ever attain. Timeless to a tee.

  • @pmoyer50 hey-- I know you got that from Dylan's liner notes from Freewheelin'-- he made that exact observation... but it's all good. Amazing, timeless song.

  • And what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son ?

And what'll you do now my darling young one ?

  • Golden voice or silver soul? Very lucky to have both.

"And I'll know my song well before I start singing"

  • The best version of this song is Dylan himself from the film Renaldo and Clara, part 10. In concert and truly awesome.

  • She sure can sing

  • dylan is too deep for beginner. i like edie.

  • Love it.

  • i've heard both versions and I like this one better. sorry bob

  • this cover is pretty awesome

  • LEARN, DYLAN, LEARN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG, what a wonderful version of this great song.

  • what a beautiful song....

  • bleeding time some warmonger yanks listen to this.

  • @prolo67 ARABS HAVE A GREAT IDEA CUT OFF HANDS-THIEF, IDIOT-CUT OUT TONGUE

  • she sings my past..great.

  • wonderful.

  • Just Beautiful

  • Like Beethoven Bob Dylan is a genius. He does not sing his songs gently. Covers do. Bob Dylan is a rocker.

  • Edie is all right, but Jason Mraz is the best version I've heard

  • Dylan's lyrics and Edie's beautiful poignant voice. what a combination! Love this

  • Excellent version of one of Dylan's best. Difficult to believe it was written 40-odd years ago and not last week!

  • @xtallyx1, full agree. Dylan is a great man, with strong lyrics and music but this one is better than the original.

    greetings over the pond.

  • This is better than the original BY FAR! Dylan cant sing worth of crap. But he sure can write.

  • I agree with that. I like Dylan's songs sung by other people. The only song I like Dylan's version is "Like a Rolling Stone."

  • @xtallyx1 Couldn't agree more. Dylan could write no question. Probably the best song writer of all time, but he can't sing. This is great.

  • @xtallyx1 You're a goddamn fool. Dylan has far more of a sense of emotional delivery than any vocalist, anywhere. His delivery of the lines serves the song far more than edie's voice.

  • @xtallyx1 Yeah, I guess so, ranks alonside Tom Waits, Shane McGowan (Pogues) & Nick Cave.......They all write GREAT songs, but their voices are an aquired taste.

    I have aquired it......

  • @xtallyx1

    yop ,lyrics dylan,

    singing edie!!!!

  • @xtallyx1 he actually sings this song quite well on the album track. His voice has become bordering on unlistenable, but in 1962 he could sing

  • @xtallyx1 And Edie cannot write but she can sure sing.

  • @dylanfan1969

But she can fuck. She has fucked rich Paul Simon and not poor Artur Garfunkel,hehehe...

  • @xtallyx1 DYlan sings with a prophetic voice, which corresponds more to the song than an, indeed, beautiful voice, but less deep, and by far.

  • Edie Brickell did an awesome job of this Dylan song. The acoustic guitar was incredible...loved it!

  • Hey, 1mm1, thanks SO much4posting this song...I LOVE it!! I needed2hear it, so I was/am SO grateful U took the time2post it4others2enjoy..keep up the good, kind work~Blessed Be

  • 1 of the best cover versions of ANY song I have heard, I must say ....

  • Bob Dylan is the most copied author of all times, which makes him one of the greatest, hell, I grew up on his songs, and now my daugter listens to them with me

  • @bolededinje

the beatles are the most coverd artist of all time actualy

  • This is a primary example of why Bob Dylan is known as a fantasic song writer. The lyrics on this is without a doubt incredible. Edie did it very well. A great song writer herself.

  • a great cover!

  • shit i never knew they covered this.

    LOVE her voice, always have.

  • i love this song in all of its entirety no matter whos point of view...i especially like the original by bob dylan! i actually like that one more because its an original and i love his voice...

  • Best remake of a song I ever heard. No one sings it like she does. Damn!

  • cool this will make Bob proud

  • would make Bob proud

  • Yes she did marry mr. simon.

  • Mrs. Paul Simon, no?

  • my favorite version

  • guess you haven't heard the staple singres

  • This makes me want to pick up the guitar. Edie's version of this song gives me bohemian goosebumps - one of the best songs, and the lyrics are heartfelt to say the least.

  • Awesome song. Great cover.

  • Solid.

  • awesome

    always be remembered ron kovic

    awesome

  • maybe its a refference to a cleansing flood coming to wash away our sins, like in the bible. maybe.

  • Too bad this great song with lyrics so relevant today and the urban conditions we live in was associated with Tom (Snooze) Cruise and associated therefore with the Viet Nam war through this movie, there is not one stanza mentioning the Viet Nam war, listen to this song as you walk, or drive, through any low income area of any city where Dylan described the environment of 12 misty mountains, 7 sad forests, 12 dead oceans, walked 6 crooked hwys., wave that could drown the world, Viet Nam, not

  • listen the to th opening lyrics and then yo will know why it pertains to the story chief. its about a mother realizing that her son has started to experience the hardships of life(whatever they may happen to be) and there is no longer anything she can do to help him. THAT is why this song is used for this movie. a young man went to war(who cares if it was vietnam) he has seen and experienced the harshest of realities, and there is nothing his mother or anyone else can do to rescue him from them

  • I agree with your analysis except the mother part. This is a Bob Dylan cover.

  • im well aware this is a bob dylan cover. someone can sing from other points of view. in this song there is a parent sing to a child, and then the child sings back to the parent. bob dylan is literally neither of them. however, being that he was a young man when he wrote this, i felt he related more to the child in the song.....and, the words of the parent seem to be more of a mothers words.... to me atleast.

  • Edie is masterful, the gold standard for a great song!

  • Tom Cruises eyes are hypnotizing but great version.

  • toms got that latent xenu suppressed energy just blazing through his china blue eyes.

  • ¡Qué versión tan bella!, la letra tan estremecedora de Dylan y la interpretación de Edie Brickell hacen mi canción favorita. Gracias por subirla a youtube.

  • could do without this scientology cunt named cruise glaring at me though.

  • 5 stars!!!!!!

  • Brilliant, just brilliant. Better than Bobs.

  • @rosi

Yop,i like this a lot.her voice is much more "appaling"

  • @rosi

Bob´s a brilliant sngwriter,he just shouldn´t bleeding sing though, makes me go all yawn;)

  • The Video, and the Video with Movie Clips, are both OUTSTANDING! Yes...Superb! She is so talented and gifted, great music, beautiful woman!!!!

    Amazing she married Paul Simon...hmmmmm......

  • Somebody who have the original video clip of this song, please upload it please.
