  • The first notes are extremely close to Mendelsohn's funeral march. Thank you for the whole thing!

  • First sounds - Wedding march ))

  • @Fredianel Is possible...but Mahler lived as a kid close to Army barracks and he heard trumpet calls all the time. His music to me, has moments of nostalgic reflections on his childhood. Lullabies, circus music, marching bands, etc. Mahler as no other composer manages in his music to convey our existence as a vale of tears......(which it is to the thinking and caring person)

  • @Fredianel and some people think it is a hint to Beethoven's 5th. Destiny motif.

  • @bartje11 I agree with you at all

  • @Fredianel I'd have to say probably not wedding march... C-sharp minor? That's one heck of a sad wedding... I think funeral march (trauermarsch) is more likely, with the army barracks in mind. That was Bud Herseth's approach to the solo...army funeral...horses...raining...cobblestone street...

  • Thank you so much bartje11! Mahler's music + score = best.

  • @KeithWhalen11 You are welcome! This is my favorite Mahler symhony. I grew up listening to the same LP you are hearing. For me this is nostalgia.
