  • Is it possible to extract a blank texture map from a 3D model that you can just edit?

    Thanks

    -Paul

  • What can CS5 do and CS4 can't regarding texture painting?

  • I wasnt getting my model to show up, and didnt catch you mention how you must set opacity to 0 in Max, which is default 100 which means just the opposite in Photoshop, or else its invisible. just wanted to point that out, good vid none the less

  • Ahhh.... I LOVE the technology these days.

  • uhhhh-annoyign scratchy

  • hahaha @ 2:21

  • Aah, your voice e-e

  • Can I then load this into udk as a single file?

  • When I'm painting on it it has really crappy colors, but when i rotate it the colors go back to 32 bit. When i stop rotating the 3d model it re-samples it and goes back to a crappy color. Looks like its in 16bit mode after a rotation. any idea?

  • That was a great video. I have some questions.

    What about UV's?

I have a cat unwrapped inside 3ds max and im trying to make the texture in photoshop with the help of the guides you can render.

Does 3ds or obj include UV's? Can I continue my texturing or it will import it with a different UV map?

  • @MortallicA91 if you already have a texture started then you can replace the texture that is made when you import it into photoshop. just double click on the texture in the layers panel and do a copy and paste of the one you made and it will show up.

  • @wingmanzintor Thank you man!

I actually finished texturing the cat, but this will help on future projects :)

    have a nice day

  • Damn dude.. you sound depressed.

  • @PeXis i had a cold at the time, i made it for some people that kept asking about using the 3d in photoshop.

  • Does anyone have any idea why all of a sudden i cant paint my models?

First i could, and the paint mask was also white..

But now everything is red, and i cant paint on it in any way...

    Anyone have a solution?

  • can you open directX .x meshes?

  • @FlashStarGames at this point i don't see an option to import direct x models just 3ds and obj files, also Photoshop's main 3d rendering is done through OpenGL.

  • @wingmanzintor yeah that's a good point. I dont know much about how it runs tho so I didnt know that. I fugured out another way tho. Thanks.

  • What can be done if you have like 2 UV maps on one object (there's on a layered texture shader)? Cause I tried to import both of my texture maps in the "diffuse" but It dosen't allow me to have both (like if my shading network is disabled). It's just a bummer to create 2 models to work on textures... especially if there are seems on the seperated maps .... Is it possible to have both? or just not yet? (I also tried to import my model in muddbox, but no luck so far...)

  • @iRememberWhen6 to import your model into mudbox its best to export as a fbx and use the mudbox preset.

also if you have mudbox or zbrush its much better to use those rather than the photoshop 3d for painting on your model.

  • Another great tutorial

  • :/ I need both male and female for imvu with normal heads ...

  • How do you get the 3d model in the first place?

  • @Drakorider if your a creator for imvu you can find them in the imvu education center and there is a sticky in the 3d forums with a list of available assets to get you started developing for imvu.

  • Do i need to simply make the seems first before exporting it?

  • @GershTV in your respective 3d modeling program you should make your uvw maps prior to exporting anything anyway, so yes making seams is a must for proper texture painting

  • Can you rotate the model at all? How would you paint the areas of the mesh that are hidden? Thanks

  • @mrbizzy yes on the bottom of the left side tool bar is the controls for rotating the camera and the model

  • If I have created a 3d model in max, and unwrapped it and created an UW-map. Can I somehow paint on that UW-map while seeing the 3d-model in photoshop similar to this video?

Or do I have to switch back and forth between PS and max?

  • @kekeke01 yes you can paint on the model just like in the video you just have to export out the model as a wavefront obj, then open it in photoshop. when your done making the texture you save it out and load it back into max and do your renders or send it into a game engine depending on what your working on.

  • @wingmanzintor Thank you very much! It is greatly appreciated

  • Unbelievably helpful tutorial, remarkable and brilliant. I cannot thank you enough for being so kind. Epic as hell, beyond kickass.
