You play good, but I think you play a little too tight in these tournaments. Don't you ever try to make a move with weak hands like J 3 offsuit, raising it up to take down the pot preflop?
Also, is it a bad idea for a rookie (such as myself) to just fold JJ if there's any raise in front of me?
Where do I go now..dam Gov shut the best site down for free money chips online poker..I`ve been with fulltilt for 7 yrs..all the other U.S.site are corny..Its not the same..I loved the character and chat from tillt..Is there another website anywhere in the world thats like FullTilt..I`ve miss playing poker..for a month now...ty.
I feel your pain Marty. Been playing at FT for over 3 years (til the DOJ stepped on my wang). Ive taken some unbelievable beats. So, I always get a good laugh out of your bad beat types of vids... been there so many Fing times!
I think you should exploit Button and Cutoff a little more. Especially in rush. People's hand ranges have tightened up a bit. You can totally exploit that and late position is the place to do it.
hey turtle knife good vid, i've seen a few of your vids and I think your play is solid. You should really try and relax a bit more while playing, try not to worry about 'luck'. To many players get hung up on this, just concentrate on your own play and let the cards fall which way they will. A couple of small pointers would be to raise more when you have limpers in-front of you and to protect your big hands better by 3-betting pre-flop
JJ was good fold but most of other things... You have huge leaks in your game! Raising there with 33. You was lucky that he didnt have anything. And last hand...disaster! Also 22...wow that was bad! You put those two that came out good for you but I think I know how you lost those chips meanwhile...
@acivoj86 What the fuck are you talking about!? He won those pots from amazing reads, Most people would give up on the flop with his 22, but knew he was weak. as for the 33, he never raised once. you obviously dont know a lot about poker.
My girlfriend bitches and bothers me when i'm playing online poker, tries to sit on my lap and other nonsense...and your significant other is making sure you have your tea beverage? LUCKY!!! haha just kidding man, nice video!
@thejanglezclan Yeah. I suppose I am lucky in that regard. She is very understanding of my poker business. Although I was a waiter before and was often out many nights, so at least I am home now more often.
@TurtleKnife Aren't you a bit too tight Turtleknife? Just asking... you made a lot more than I have with poker, so you're obviously making better decisions. Is UTG+3 @ 4:18 on the 2nd screen, really a fold?
Another example is K10o CO when you just went to a massive stack after that QQ hand (AKs reshove was so bad!)? I can't see gabmaister his stack, but other than that, it should be an easy minraise steal, right? You go all the way against aquatones and fold if karon1218 shoves. Agree?
@IspanasOnTop I never said 5 dol was high stakes im saying why dont you play high stakes if your such a good player. Instead you comment on youtube videos thinking your the next ivey
@IspanasOnTop well you obviously dont play high stakes or you wouldn't waste your time commenting on these videos. Im not saying 5 dol is high stakes im asking if your a "class" player then why are you not playing 50/100 100/200 blinds
One other thing. Try not to clik the check/fold button if it come to a show down. If you opponent is paying attention hell just throw out a bet next time even if he is holding the same crap that you are.
@BartJ385 I didnt say if if would have called. If you want to see the hand play out in real time just hit the sit out button and it keeps you at the table. That is if there are 2 palyers who see the flop. you would definately see if you would have won with the jacks.
Next time your filming yourself click "sit out next hand" so we can watch your folded big hands play out. At least then if your JJ was crushed you look like a hero. If your JJ would have won you can edit it out.
@TurtleKnife i made 40k playing full tilt tournament, that's a call in my opinion. People would 4 bet to isolate more often than not. Usually if the hand strength is really strong, they might flat call. I'd fold that maybe deep in a big tournament, but almost never in the beginning. Doubling up in the beginning is very important in online tournaments in my experience. 1 shortstacker and 1 deep stacker, i'd call and if i lose just buy into another tournament.
@TurtleKnife Last time I played with you in a tournament, you were loosey goosey at bad times. That was one time you needed to gamble with jacks. When I played with you in your table, you gambled with like Ace rag when the other guy was virtually pot commited, and he was a "solid" player. Luckily you sucked out against his big pair, but I would've never done that that deep in the tournament. There were def safer ways to accumulate chips in that tournament. Guess you were tired.
marty, i think u get looose in late game tight in early game. In my opinion, I think you shouldn't loosen up late game, but if you're going to play play for all your chips. For example. AK, AQ, AJ early pos all in 4 handed. Any pocket pair all in 4 handed. Fold JQ against a raise. Shove against a raise with AK. Three bet Aces, Kings and Q, Js. Flat call a raise with any pair between 7s and Tens and out play post flop. Reduce risk in the late game, but don't play scared
@jparkfosho I'm sorry but everything you have said is completely wrong. You need to understand game situations and this forumla of yours doesn't take into account your opponents. If there was a formula to poker, everyone would find it easy to win. As for the QJ hand, it's just so standard. 11 big blinds is nothing. If you don't play to win, then don't play at all. You have a lot to learn.
@lollerz16 JQ is standard against a raise? hahahaha so you three bet all in with 11 blinds knowing ou're gonna get called. Dude that's like trying to gamble your way to the top. There are better situations where you can steal blinds and keep your 11 blinds. Like shoving with K hi in small blind is much safer way to do so rather than shoving against a raise. Very High Risk move!! I'm just wondering what your poker screen name is to tell me that that's a standard move!! big LOL
@lollerz16 first of all so you've made 400 grand in poker?? Second of all, are you brainless? Waiting for better +EV position doesn't mean waiting for aces. Like I said, there's 12 players left, he can wait for K hi to shove on SB. Don't shove against a raise with jq, there's no fold equity.I explained this million times. when he makes final table, he can def wait for better hands on final table because now he can wait 9 hands before he hits BB again vs desperately trying to shove+moving up
@lollerz16 Obviously you're trying to play to win first, but I personally am going to do that with an edge, not while I'm behind.I'm sure you lack skill so you have to gamble your way to the first place. But I take adv of fold equity and showdown value.Chances are so slim to win a 2000 ppl tournament if you try to gamble your way to the top. Maybe you've been reading Erick Lindgren's book making to the final table, but I'm sorry, I don't have to gamble to get first place. I do it with skills
on the 33 hand w/ the QQ2AQ board, I REALLY dont understand your River bet. It cant be a bluff because any hand that is better than your is going to call, especially after a flop and turn bet, and it cant be for Value, because any hand that you have beat is NEVER going to call. K high never calls etc, so by betting there it seems you are only going to be called by hands that beat yours. Usually right on your side Marty, but think this was a mistake.
Yeah i agree completely. I also would have reraised the AK Vs A2 hand on the flop and folded to any further action....if he bets calls flop with bottom pair he aint ever gonna fold.
lol i love the way he says are you fucking.... after he continued to call the OPP's bets with A high! and i love how players with AK think there 100% to win and get busted out with shitty little hands cause they cant lay a hand like AK down.....
Hey turtle , love the videos. Quick question on why you post them. Is it to help advertise TI and/or helping the infinite expand of online poker online? I would like to know your strategy aswell, it seems like you like to play alot of cheap flops raising 2.5bbs or reraising small. I think you should make your raises bigger even though it indicates more strength, these weak players will call you. You can also his the sit out button instead of quick fold to see what the players show down with.
I love how many idiot donks have commented on this video. The JJ hand is an insta fold with a shove and a re shove before. The AJ was in early position. Any rush player should realise that only premium hands should be played early. The QJ shove was because he had 11 big blinds and is a hand which is not a big underdog to the likes of AK or 99.
@cbosmooth I'm sorry but it actually is standard. I've played tons of these things. He raised from early pos, was then shoved on by a small stack and then shoved on by big stack in late position. Rush or not, you simply have to fold. If the big stack had tens, I don't think he would shove. The best possible situation you could be in is AK and 1010 against your jacks but why risk your tournament on it? It is so so so standard.
@lollerz16 Dude that's a bad play regardless. JQ doesn't beat the other guy's range, just because he's getting odds, doesn't give him reason to shove. He had nothing invested in the pot. Yeah, he got some fold equity, but if he gets called, he's screwed. He could've done that when he had the other guy's range beat. The other guy was chip leader who was gonna call him if he had K hi or better.
@lollerz16 The only play I feel iffy about is the AJ, he was UTG+3 (or there abouts) which isn't horribly early. Also the blinds were low and I feel it's a situation where seeing a flop is good cause it's cheap. There are plenty of non premium hands which will get in with you and your earlyish position can help rep a bluff if you miss.
I have a buddy who makes (well until FTP got shut down lol) a living playing these rush tourneys and I know he'd play that 100% of the time.
@Drewb18c1 The fact that the blinds are small is all the more reason to just fold. Early on in tournaments, it's profitable to play only premium hands early on. Lets say you raise UTG+2 or whatever with AJ and I'm on the button with AQo. I flat this every time early on unless it's a particularly crazy player or something. If an ace hits, you can't even be sure you're ahead. AJ is a pretty weak hand in this particular situation. I know some pros who fold AQ UTG every time.
@lollerz16 Aggression is key in these rush tournaments. AJ is the bottom of the range in early position for me, but when you have 50+ BBs like Turtle had here I think it's a no brainer.
Your argument about not being sure if you're ahead makes no sense...this happens constantly in poker. You can't be sure if you're ahead with AQ either. Hell with AK, maybe somebody hit a set? You figure out where you're at by betting. Besides, the best hand doesn't necessarily win the hand.
@Drewb18c1 Meh, aggression wins tourneys, that's true. But you don't win tourneys in the first couple of blind levels. Keep pots small early and look to gamble more as the tourney progresses. That's a pretty standard tactic.
@lollerz16 I totally agree with that statement in standard non-rush tourneys.
This is a rush tourney I'm talking about, and they have a totally different dynamic. Early aggression results in a large stack (or getting busted: whatever, open a new tourney) and the ability to bully opponents who for the most part dont have a single read on you.
This tactic got a friend of mine a 300% roi at the $4 lvl over...it works, trust me :P
Good video Marty and awesome playing too... Some moves you made kept me proud of the fact that you are my low stakes tourney mentor... All of the moves you made I would have done the same except when you had the 22 and 33 hands where you kept the aggression pedal to the metal where I would have slowed down but that's just our playing style differences
Just push all your good hands and fold all teh bad to get a stack going lol. That is how you play turbos in general. You cant be afraid to stick with your good hands. Just push them.
@TurtleKnife I second that. I probably would of made a button raise with the K10 but then again its better to play tight in rush tournaments knowing you can get a hand before blinds go up in no time.
I Find my game has better concentration and feel with all sounds turned off. At first it took few hours to get used to it, but now i am better tuned to the games, especially when on 2 or more tbls.
@10crow Yeah he was a min-betting wanker and had done this before. I just thought the min-bet on the river would just look like I was begging for a call. In the end, I could have been ahead anyway.
@TurtleKnife ya but you realize that betting the river makes almost no sense at all because a better hand will almost never fold a worst hand will almost never call.
@10crow Marty's played more hands of poker than you or I have had hot dinners. Have a look at some of his other videos. He plays a LOT of poker and is a solid winner. If the pot is big enough sometimes a min-bet on the end with a marginal hand can be right if your read suggests the villain is weak - the folding equity can make it +eV.
lol i remember you your that helmet wearing tard that was defending phil hellmuth in that PAD when he folded his way to 1.5 BB's, LOL keep trollin youtube you fish.

The play was good, except I do not like the shove with Q-Q behind raise and reraise...
ssss122344 1 year ago
QJ was a bad push, but the call was even worst. A9 offsuit? lol People love the ace on ftp. After all, there are 10 of them in a fulltilt deck.

Seems like you played everything right in my opinion... rush poker is like russian roulette.

brocktherock68 1 year ago
I love how many idiot donks have commented on this video. The JJ hand is an insta fold with a shove and a re shove before. The AJ was in early position. Any rush player should realise that only premium hands should be played early. The QJ shove was because he had 11 big blinds and is a hand which is not a big underdog to the likes of AK or 99.
lollerz16 1 year ago 17
@lollerz16 Thank YOU! Actually I am surprised how many were commenting on those hands which I thought were kind of standard.
TurtleKnife 1 year ago 6
@TurtleKnife what is really not standard is your lines ... you NEVER 3 bet youre a donk ...
pooly666 1 year ago
@pooly666 He 3 bets numerous times in these videos. He is definitely not a donk. You probably are though.

@lollerz16 folding those J's is deff not standard for a 4.40 rush,, not even close to standard,
cbosmooth 11 months ago
@cbosmooth I'm sorry but it actually is standard. I've played tons of these things. He raised from early pos, was then shoved on by a small stack and then shoved on by big stack in late position. Rush or not, you simply have to fold. If the big stack had tens, I don't think he would shove. The best possible situation you could be in is AK and 1010 against your jacks but why risk your tournament on it? It is so so so standard.
lollerz16 11 months ago
@lollerz16 it's 4 dollar game buddy -.-;
jparkfosho 9 months ago
@lollerz16 Dude that's a bad play regardless. JQ doesn't beat the other guy's range, just because he's getting odds, doesn't give him reason to shove. He had nothing invested in the pot. Yeah, he got some fold equity, but if he gets called, he's screwed. He could've done that when he had the other guy's range beat. The other guy was chip leader who was gonna call him if he had K hi or better.
jparkfosho 9 months ago
@lollerz16 The only play I feel iffy about is the AJ, he was UTG+3 (or there abouts) which isn't horribly early. Also the blinds were low and I feel it's a situation where seeing a flop is good cause it's cheap. There are plenty of non premium hands which will get in with you and your earlyish position can help rep a bluff if you miss.
I have a buddy who makes (well until FTP got shut down lol) a living playing these rush tourneys and I know he'd play that 100% of the time.
Drewb18c1 9 months ago
@Drewb18c1 The fact that the blinds are small is all the more reason to just fold. Early on in tournaments, it's profitable to play only premium hands early on. Lets say you raise UTG+2 or whatever with AJ and I'm on the button with AQo. I flat this every time early on unless it's a particularly crazy player or something. If an ace hits, you can't even be sure you're ahead. AJ is a pretty weak hand in this particular situation. I know some pros who fold AQ UTG every time.
lollerz16 9 months ago
@lollerz16 Aggression is key in these rush tournaments. AJ is the bottom of the range in early position for me, but when you have 50+ BBs like Turtle had here I think it's a no brainer.
Your argument about not being sure if you're ahead makes no sense...this happens constantly in poker. You can't be sure if you're ahead with AQ either. Hell with AK, maybe somebody hit a set? You figure out where you're at by betting. Besides, the best hand doesn't necessarily win the hand.
Drewb18c1 9 months ago
@Drewb18c1 Meh, aggression wins tourneys, that's true. But you don't win tourneys in the first couple of blind levels. Keep pots small early and look to gamble more as the tourney progresses. That's a pretty standard tactic.
lollerz16 9 months ago
@lollerz16 I totally agree with that statement in standard non-rush tourneys.
This is a rush tourney I'm talking about, and they have a totally different dynamic. Early aggression results in a large stack (or getting busted: whatever, open a new tourney) and the ability to bully opponents who for the most part dont have a single read on you.
This tactic got a friend of mine a 300% roi at the $4 lvl over...it works, trust me :P

Good video Marty and awesome playing too... Some moves you made kept me proud of the fact that you are my low stakes tourney mentor... All of the moves you made I would have done the same except when you had the 22 and 33 hands where you kept the aggression pedal to the metal where I would have slowed down but that's just our playing style differences
theloveshack18 1 year ago
Just push all your good hands and fold all teh bad to get a stack going lol. That is how you play turbos in general. You cant be afraid to stick with your good hands. Just push them.

we miss seeing you in the $10 45 man Sit n gos...

Should've called AJ, shouldn't push with QJ at least not if some1 raised before you, folding K10 is fine, rest is fine.

@TurtleKnife I second that. I probably would of made a button raise with the K10 but then again its better to play tight in rush tournaments knowing you can get a hand before blinds go up in no time.

frankiedetorie 1 year ago
@10crow Yeah he was a min-betting wanker and had done this before. I just thought the min-bet on the river would just look like I was begging for a call. In the end, I could have been ahead anyway.
TurtleKnife 1 year ago
@TurtleKnife ya but you realize that betting the river makes almost no sense at all because a better hand will almost never fold a worst hand will almost never call.
10crow 1 year ago
@10crow Okie Dude!
TurtleKnife 1 year ago
@10crow Marty's played more hands of poker than you or I have had hot dinners. Have a look at some of his other videos. He plays a LOT of poker and is a solid winner. If the pot is big enough sometimes a min-bet on the end with a marginal hand can be right if your read suggests the villain is weak - the folding equity can make it +eV.

You played some hands less than optimally
the QQ hand in the BB with a open raiser and caller should have been 3-bet
the 22 in the bb against the sb limper should have been min raised on the flop (and why min bet the river?)
should have folded 33 in the SB
should have folded AKo on that dry board to the turn bet (calling flop is ok)
