You could get a virus in the virtual machine, such as in the one running the Windows OS, but it would stay in the Windows VM. Just like you'd run a Windows OS on a laptop or desktop and install an AV/security software, you should install the same things for the Windows virtual machine in Parallels or Fusion. The same goes for installs on boot camp.

You gave a damn good explanation. However, I think a lot of people are gonna get lost in the "tech" vocabulary. I've noticed that people are not always sure on what a Virtual Machine (VM) is, but if you call it a "fake," "imaginary," or "mini" computer, most people can gather what that is...also, parallels has had some great updates, the new set of parallel's tools makes Integration across Ubuntu, Windows 7, and XP almost flawless. Windows 7 is esp. good with parallels.

Not very informative. Parallels may cost under $100, but you still have to pay for a windows license. With Boot Camp, you just have to pay for the windows license... unless of course you already have an upgrade version of XP or whatever. OS X and Boot Camp actually satisfies the upgrade requirement for XP for having to have a full license for a previous version of Windows.

For your edification... All you morons who say that you are running Windows on Bootcamp are wrong. Bootcamp is a non-destructive partitioning tool. When you run Windows on an Intel-Mac you are running it natively.

So for pete's sake you friggin n00bs stop saying that you can run "Windows under Bootcamp"

At this point Mac's can run any operating system. That means Linux, Winblows, Unix, and/or OSX - which is Unix anyway but whatever floats your boats.

we have parallels and its awesome. you can run both enviroments fully integrated on the mac desktop sharign the mac desktop file. OF course you can run the full windows enviroment in a separate window and switch using the spaces thing. In the integrated setting you can have windows programs in the dock and desktop shortcuts and all of windows u see is the start menu bar when ur on a windows program. we did upgrade to 4 gb ram from a separate site (at like $100) bc apple charges too much

You can install both... Install bootcamp and then install parallels to open bootcamp windows on mac if you just have to open an app that would not need much memory. If you want to give all performance to windows, you reboot and thats all.

Both are great ways of using windows... I think combined they are the best...

I'm not an expert but with parallels is the program that let's you open or use windows the operating system, however you gotta have the operating system either you buy it (which I don't recomend) or borrow it fromo a friend or by other means, parallels is like the bridge that conects mac os x with windows xp or vista, but you gotta have mac os x in the first place and then windows on the other hand so you can use parallels to open windows operating system and use corel, photoshop, etc.
