this is true, the auto trannies on these cars do rob power. The auto trans in the drags are not your bone stock trans therefore are alot faster but stock for stock you will get more out of the car with the 6spd.

The other reason this seems to be a MKIV is due to the redline. There were no MKIII engines offered that had a 6800 rpm redline. The only engine with that particular redline was the 2JZ-GTE offered in the MKIV. The 7M-GTE had a lower redline, depending on the year, I think it ranged from 6200-6500 rpm and the 1JZ-GTE I believe had a 7500 rpm redline.

That is a mkIII auto supra single turbo with a 7m-GTE motor that puts out 230 HP and 245 ft lbs torque on only 6.8 psi boost stock. It is a inline six 3 liter motor with a bulletproof block capable of over 600 on stock internals. You can easily make between 300-400 horse with just a good boost controller and a few basic bolt ons. I've owned one and put it to well over 160 mph and it is stable as hell. The green gauges are stock

No, Im sorry bro. You are wrong. That is definately a MK3. No question about it. Those are MK3 Gauges. They are green. It's true that the 2jz motor is far superior to the 7m but none the less, that is a MK3. You can easily modify a 7mgte to run 10-12 psi boost with just a handful of washers to shim the wastegate, and your making upwards of 300 HP. After that you need to do some other upgrades because you will hit fuel cut off and if you run that must boost you'll definately needa metalheadgasket

I own the MKIII and my gauges look nothing like that. My gauges are even with each other and also not green. My gauges are white with a black background and I don't recall ever seeing MKIII factory gauges that are not white.

With the speedometer located lower than the tach, the layout matches a MKIV dash. Look up a picture of the two.

Z06 only has long gear ratios because it primarily makes power in the lower rpm range so in order to achieve traction longer gears are achieved through the tranny unlike a supra which achieves power through mid range and high rpms. another thing is the supra has a higher rev limit than many cars making it look like the gearing last for a long time.

plus you guys are missing a key point. uhhhhhh BOOST. in a manual between shifts all boost is lost, then built up again upon re-engagement of the throttle. in auto, the throttle is never released thus boost is maintained. bottom line. in turboed cars, auto always beats manual. but my ttz is still stick =]
