They are not the normal LED's so places like Radio Shack do not have them. Not sure about other similar stores, but I have never seem them. Need to order them online. I sell them. Check the link in the more info section of this page.
Thanks for showing the video! I just did this project on my vespa's dash - Instrument Cluster , changed all red leds for blue and yellow... I used 15 watts solder, it went perfect!
awesome video bro...what kind of leds are these...every time i ask someone, they say, "well i sell them" im sure people sell them and thats cool but i know that radio shack which is walking distance from my house sells them cheaper and i dont have to wait...anyway man, agian awesome video and can you please tell me what kind of leds these are? thanks
WOW, second time using a soldering iron, and done this in like 10 minutes, piece of cake really. Just be careful to not leave the soldering iron on too much, almost heated of the plates, otherwise, GREAT GUIDE, and thanks for the LEDS
You will want about a 30 watt soldering iron, so if the one you are looking at is 30 watt, you should be fine. If not, I also sell a soldering iron kit on my eBay store. Link is in the more info section on the top right of this page.
This is sooo cool, 1 thing, is this easy? and where can i buy leds? for a good price and with good watt, and last question which watt should i use? 30 watt?
You only need to touch the side of the new LED's for a second; this will heat up the solder pad underneath and the LED connection. Just make sure you have a nice pointed tip on your soldering iron rather than a flat tip. That will make a huge difference.
i got as far as removing the old leds. i removed the original solder in the process and burned a few new leds trying to put them in. any suggestions as to avoid burning the leds while trying to solder them in place?
Yea it is pretty hard that y i always buy double of every mod part i buy so i have one to practice with on a controller that i messed up my first time and once i get the hang of it i do it on the real one..Its a good technique try it
You really cant buy these from a store try custom xbox shop's ebay store, they have the best deal. Buy in large quantities too. It may be more costly but it pays off when you mess up. 5mm and 3mm are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to big.
4.99 for the LEDs, 16.99 for the mod kit which comes with free LEDs. Four LEDs come with either the LED purchase or the mod kit purchase. Prices are also on my website and eBay store. Check under more info on the upper right hand corner on this page.
Its get easier each time. When I first took these off to put new ones on, it took me quite a while. Now, I can be done in less than a minute. The key it to heat both sides up of the LED. You can use extra solder as done in the video to accomplish this. Also, do not force the LED off. That will surly break the pads off underneath. Just a soft push with the iron as you are heating them up will do.
HOW MANY WATTS DOES YOUR solder iron have?
