I really don't care about what the press is saying about Mel now, have to much respect for this guy because of his classic films. Braveheart, Ransom, The Patriot, Lethal Weapons, Payback,We Were Soldiers, The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, and Mad Max. A serious wound like a leg being chopped off in the conditions it happened, with period knowledge of field surgery (and the improbability of immediate help) would pretty much be a death spell

It was choreographed well enough that the killings were rarely an issue. Nowadays there is a lot of that shaky-cam virus going around, which makes it a bit difficult sometimes, but Braveheart was shot well.
