I have a Technics SL-B200 stereo turntable (circa 1982) and a Technics CD player also (circa 1982) that is made of steel...not the cheap plastic crap like you get today. Even the drawer that holds the CD is steel and it moves very smoothly on ball bearings! lol I've never had a single problem with either one of these components and I still use them today in my stereo system. Long live Technics stereo components...I love them!
I had a late 90s Technics setup: stereo receiver and towers (SBT-200) and I too feel nostalgic for that kinda fun old school gear, I miss it and all, but were Technics really high fidelity? I mean, between my old school Technics stuff and my current Harman Kardon / Infinity setup, there's really no comparison as to what sounds better.
I am a huge Panasonic/Technics fan. It's the only brand I will buy.I wish Technics was still making amps and speakers but Panasinic decided to use one name instead of 2.They stil make Technics turntables, keyboards, headphones, and mixers.
I ought to take pictures/video of my setup, I have the complete Sc2020D box set in origional condition except for one of the shelves in my SH523 rack is a replacement shelf :(...
Yet my SU-V16, St-S16, Rs-M16 and Sl-D212 atill function really great. :)
I've still got some of my late 1980's Technics seperates and now I'm buying more on ebay as back ups. Computers, iPod and downloadable music killed the full size Hi-Fi seperates. Thank you Technics for the many wonderful years of quality Hi Fi that I've owned since the 1970's. Technics...RIP.
The Technics never die, it will live, in many many people who love real music quality...and,for ever, Technics represent the quality goods, and the quality of materials, in 70-80 decades... s.f.m.english...stop.
I agree with you about the quality etc but the point I was making is that Technics are not made anymore since 2000. The only place to buy Technics now is places like ebay which are not new but at least it's something. We have to look after what we already have. That's what I meant when I said R.I.P Technics.
I'm not sure if you've noticed, but any respectable hi-fi store sells tons of hifi seperates. There's a myriad of different makes to choose from, in all price ranges. If the problem is that you can't get Technics hifi seperates anymore, then fair enough, but downloadable music and iShit didn't kill the full-size hifi seperates.
I can assure you that it did. Also note that we won't be using DVD players in the near future because of Film/TV downloads that we can already Rent or Purchase and store on our hard drives or even video iPods. Forget Bluray as well. That will also be defunct. Standard DVD players are now quite rare as Bluray takes over but some Bluray films are crap so it's not that good either.
Compliments

are you referring to the fact that it was bought by panasonic?
i bought a set of tech 12's about 6 months ago and so far the quality still seems great.

Technics was a branch of Panasonic, if they ever decided to get into super HiFi again who knows, maybe they'll bring out the name again.
