nice video, i find that instead of making use of hikite and opening my chest, i keep my none striking hand up and lean in for the extra power, i find it speeds up my technique, any thoughts?
i tried it that way and it did feel faster, i feel i get more power from the hip when i use hikite but i will pobably practice both ways. i'm sure there are many other variations to.
if there's not enough 'give' and the striking surface is hard you can cause some problems in the joints of the wrist, elbow and shoulder. mine is flexible enough and the striking surface is actually made from straw.(please see other comments). thanks for the interest and comment.
Nice to see people are still using the makiwara.

without doubt the hips will always give more power, it's the basis of all techniques.

just a note: from what I've read, using rope and a board can cause problems in the future.

yeah. it tends not to flow so well when i'm practising it on the makiwara, but it works well in randori (sparring)

One of my favoutite techniques. In traditional boxing it's outlawed due to the power and damage it can do.
