  • I absolutely love this movie!!!!!!! It scared the CRAPPPP out of me and i had nightmares for weeks, but to this day its among my favorite movies. When i saw this preview in the theaters, i told myself i would never see it, but my curiosity took over and i did. Soon after i watched the movie i read the book and LOVVVEEEDDDD ITTT!!!!!!!!!!! • I felt the movie was waaaay to Americanized and bright. I really wanted to see a live action horror movie, like the book. I also love the book's "Other Mother", which sounded so much scarier then this movie's!!!!! disappointing.

  • this makes me not want to read the book...

  • I just finished the book! I want to see this movie sooo bad! I hope its as good as the book!

  • Trust me, I think it's better than the book. IMO.

  • does anyone know what age group the book is meant for? I might go and read it. And I've seen this movie. It was haunting and disturbing at times, but it was very fascinating.

4 button eyed smiley faces out of 5.

  • Wat are you, James Rolfe?

  • why did it say to put on 3D glasses? if you read carefully the thing that pops up before the trailer starts, you'll see what i mean. :)

  • This was filmed in a theater so that is why they tell you to put your glasses on

  • i agree!

  • why did my comment get a thumbs down?

  • im reading the book and its really good. if the book is godd then the movie must be awesome :D

  • It will be! Neil Gaiman is usually involved with films of his books, so quality is controlled. XD

  • i found this book on the floor in middle school it was pretty cool...

  • kinda creeoy how u found the book in the middle of the floor

  • on the floor in someones hands whats the diffrence

  • cuz the book it self is creepy. and the way u jus found it outa no where

  • damn... this movie looks creepy...

  • Why would a guy who makes his living off the power of his imagination write a cautionary tale about the use of imagination?

  • But it's not a cautionary tale about the use of imagination. >_>'

  • what is this rated

  • Triple X

  • PPBBBT lmao nice

  • Caroline is rated PG

  • CORaline!

  • Visit Petition Online, keyword "Coraline."

The keyword is case sensitive, so type exactly as you see it.

  • I would rather them make a movie about the book: The Thief of Always.

It has a better storyline and plot...

  • well they didnt...so watch coraline & stop being ungrateful :D

  • i hav the comic version

  • Writer Neil Gaiman is a Scientologist (class VIII auditor & ED of Birmingham Org, CS at Guardian Office, 3 Scieno courses in 1988, probably a pseudonym after. Gaiman family are big Scienos, father David (head of GO), sister Claire (exec in Scientology Missions Int), wife Mary (clear 2002), Mother Sheila, big time Scieno w/site, sister Lizzie (WISE Scieno front group). Gaimans are founding US patrons 2004 & 2006. Very sorry for him.

  • it was probably my bloody valentine in 3d thats the only one that i know is out

  • What movie did you see in 3D?

  • wanna see the movie now

  • oh, hush. u haven't seen it yet

  • i want the graphic novel and the novel DAMN I WANT 2 C THIS MOVIE!!!!

  • <3 I already have the graphic novel for coraline!!!! PLUS, its first edition!!! :) and its great!

  • i love how they did everything, but there is just 1 things i have a teeny problem with: A: the new dude. totally takes out the effect of keeping a secret that cannot be told.

  • This preview for the movie seems so scary because at the end she says "You could stay here forever, if you want to"

  • do you know a higher quality 3d version like this?

  • Holy fuck there's a book?!

I need to get that ASAP!

Can't wait for the movie. I fakking love stop-motion animation, and this looks like a kick-ass movie.

  • yea, there's two, a novel, and a graphic novel (comic book), i read the graphic novel and i loved it!!

  • Definitely read the book. It's kind of short but it's awesome.

  • Freaky

  • i cannot WAIT to see this!!!

LOL were u actually at the theatre when u recorded this? thats so cool

  • i read the book. it was really creepy! i can't wait to see the movie. the trailor looks very creepy too.

  • This was a kids' story and I found it to be one of the creepiest, most well-written, and disturbing little books EVER. A classic in its simplicity and plot. Gaiman is a genius. I'm nervous about how this will translate to film. Selig had better capture at least the spirit and ~mood~ of the book. If so, it's going to be A+. Looks great from this trailer. Otherwise, I can't say enough about the book. Jaw-droppingly superb.

  • yah. i love this book! i remeber when i read it, when i got to the cellar part, it started raining.

  • I read this book(:

  • let me guess u went to see thev nietmare before crismas at the warren in 3D

  • It's too bad Tim Burton isn't doign this one...;_;

  • Neil Gaiman is better in the fantasy stuff , watch Mirrormask or read his books

  • Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out ^_^

  • I know he would have made it a bit better

  • I remember reading the book and I loved it so much. I'm not too fond of this kind of animaiton but the wonderful story will make up for it.

  • CREEPY! but still friggin awsome!

  • "you could stay here forever... if you want to!" soo friggin scary! 3D TOO! Omigod best yet!

  • Stay to the book, until Tim Burton makes his own movie!! Coraline is one of the best books I've ever read, it's such a pity this film doesnt do it justice.

  • How do you know the film won't do the book justice? It's not even out in theaters yet!

  • Well,I don't,of course.Maybe Tim Burton suddenly decides to take over, changes everything and makes a whole new fantastic film that does the book justice. Who knows, miracles do happen, and Christmas is near, ain't it?

  • piece of crap!!

it looks like someone just sat at the back of a theater and filmed this!!

  • i think they did. O.O

  • I went to the theater today and saw this exact tralier! You can hear the people in the theater talking so of course they did. Anyway, this looks like a freakin' cool movie I'm so going to watch it.

  • dude lol I saw it today to!

  • Looks very, very interesting.

  • I heard about this from Mirror Mask. Hopefully it's just as good.

Can anyone tell me what it's about???

  • it's about a young girl named Coraline (not Caroline xD) who find a door that, when you open it, is all bricked up in her flat. At night, it turns into a mysterious portal to the "Other World" Coraline goes inside and there's her "Other Mother" and "Other Father" trying to convince her that life is better in the "Other World"...I won't spoil the rest for you =]

  • Hmm. Sounds interesting. Thanks! :)

  • Just read about this in "USA Today".

Shades of "Twilight Zone's" classic episode,

    "Little Girl Lost" !!

  • i kno the button eyes!being alone the whole time wuld have scared me!the part where she is looking for the soul in the thatre and tht spider thing is SCARY!

    i cant wait though! o.0

  • I'm from israel and we had to do a book report at english and I read "Coraline" (thats the thirst book that i read in englis!!) and I loved it soooooo much! cant wait to the movie :D

  • I just read this novel in English...! I loved it! I can't wait for the movie!!! The other mother is so frightening, though... do you think they'll include the cat? He plays a big part... but sometimes movies forget characters like that...

  • One of my very, VERY favorite books of all time. I sincerely hope the movie does it justice.

  • the book made me peed in my pants. it was scary like mary. :O but a very good book though. can't wait to watch the moviee!

  • it was a good book but the sense of her being all alone all the time scared me but i thought it was creepy when she was in the cellar and the mangled other father started chasing her with what was left of his arms. great book!

  • this book creeped me out i dont like the hand at the end or when shes has to get away from the other father still wanna see the movie tho

  • cant wait

  • the book was so awesome!! i love how the "other" people alll have button eyes Oo

  • that freaks me out tho... how could they see??? through the small four holes in the buttons?

  • i luved the book cant wait 4 the movie

    Looks good though

  • this book scared the shit out of me. i'm such a baby haha

  • Loved the book, I think the movie comes out January 2009?

  • i cant wait until it comes out for the wii

  • yea it is

  • Check out "Ketchup" a stop-motion film from Wenchung Lu!!

  • omg! you taped this from a theater! i can tell!! :O

  • Man, this looks so frickin' awesome!!!! Oh, and it looks very surreal, my type of movie. Can't wait to see this!

  • Huh? Claymation formed the masterpieceful Nightmare Before Christmas, it's not bad!

  • this book was scary and sad

  • ya but it was a pretty good book tho

  • I'm reading the book now and it's really excellent one. However the movie looks very strange.. I think I don't want to watch whole movie.. :(

  • OMG WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS TRAILER?!!!!!

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE! I'VE BEEN WAITING ENTIRELY TOO LONG! OMG!!!!!!!! It looks as creepy as the book...hope it does it justice!

  • i luved the book

  • Coraline is a wonderful book!

i hope the movie does it justice.

  • im so sad!! the animation is way too cheery and childreny to be coraline! they're wrecking the book...

  • this looks interesting definately going to see this when it comes out. Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders do some voices in this also which is fantastic!!

  • Henry Selick directed NBC but Tim Burton conceived the original story and character designs. The reason why both Burton and Selick ended up working under Disney for NBC was because Burton made the original character sketches while employed by Disney.

  • Is anyone else horrified by the fact that Coraline will be directed by a Disney person?

I'm terrified they'll take out all the horror...

  • I have faith in Selick. he has a good track record of maintaining his own creative vision regardless of the company he is working for. this particular story and Selick's style are a good match. I also love the fact they are doing this in stop-motion and not cgi combined with live-action.

  • why did I think Tim Burton directed Nightmare Before Christmas?

    -Henry

  • thats what i thought too!

    ???idk

  • because the official title was Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. He wasn't the official director, though he did have a LOT of creative input for the art direction. It was given it's title because he created the characters and the basic outline of the story. He also produced the film.

  • I feel proud to know that I was a lover of both Coraline and His Dark Materials before they went big-screen. always better to read the books first

  • I thought this was gonna be released in February? I didn't see that it was out already tho. :/

Oh well, finally people are gonna recognize how great this book is, and I'll be one of the few who liked it before it went big. It'll still be my fav book tho and I prefer not to watch it, cause I have a completely different image of the story in my head (and prefer to keep it that way).

  • i had nightmares from this book

  • This is going to be so creepy and awesome. O_o

    I can't wait.

  • This is going to be so creepy and awesome. O_o

    I can't wait.

  • Sigh...all my hopes are lost. The whole thing's gonna be in stop-motion. I had hoped that it would be in live-action for Coraline's real world and stop-motion for the other world, but no.

  • what is stop motion??

  • Have you ever seen shows like "James and the Ginat Peach", "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "Corpse Bride", and the like before? That should give you a pretty good idea of 3-D stop motion.

  • ooohhh ok thanks, another word for it is claymation, i've made a video like that in art class, while i read the book i imagined everything like that :(

  • Well, I'm not sure of this, but I think claymation is only made with clay; while, in stop-motion, the characters are made of hard materials.

  • yeah, that wouldve ben cool if it was live and then in the "other" world its animated or stopmotion.

  • Sorry, but the whole thing's animated, no half live-action and half-animated stuff here.

  • Yeah, I agree that would be quite cool... but also quite wizard of oz with no colour, then colour. no animation, then animation. Hmm...

  • I know it would be cool!!! That's why I wanted it both live action and animated! Some books just BEG to be filmed that way, like Coraline. I must confess I found it very annoying that they didnt ask Dave McKean to work on the other world. I personally loved his work in MirrorMask. And whaddya mean my the Wizard of Oz there?

  • Yeah I see your point and I agree.. but my hmm... about wiz of oz is cos i always hated the fact she left oz with all the colour at the end! I liked the colour, why would you return to black-and white? But i think it might work with coraline. Like the pagemaster! I love that movie!

  • OMG Yes!!! I love it so much! I just caught it on Youtube a day or two ago. Well, the no colour scheme might work, since the other world is meant to be dark and dreary. I always imagine it as a place in a silent movie, all blacks and whites, but I dont think that'd work.

Although I didnt quite like 'Enchanted'.

  • but why can't the other mother sound silkier than that to make it more mysterious wheather or not she's good

  • That'd be too much like Henry's "James and the Giant Peach."

  • this movie isn't claymation. Its puppet animation.

  • Oh my gosh. I am so creeped out. AND EXCITED. It's gonna be so creepy. =D

  • I don't think the book was in anyway homosexual, if you mean that it's terrible then YOU'RE WRONG. Try writing a book that turns into a screenplay one day, then you will have the privilege to judge another.

  • Well said. =)

  • i know blackwater u just owned wasimyounces! OOOOOOOOH!

  • if it's so 'gay' then why did you read it???

  • Precisely! If you had taken time to see the blurb on the back, which I'm positively sure you hadn't, you would have known that it would be too 'gay' for you to read!

  • oh so its gonna be this year AWESOME!

  • i cant wait the book was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gooood!!!!

  • hope it comes out in non-3d cinemas too

  • EXACTLY! it was just a skeleton.

  • this is probably going to win Best Animated Feature for next year's Academy Awards.

  • it comes out this year

  • no january 9, 2009

  • yeah but after this year's awards so it'll have to be in next year's awards

  • oops i replied to a different comment SORRY! i mean that coraline well be in the academy awards 4 next year because its coming out after this year's awards which is tomorrow!

  • i like that they aren't using tim because tim actually never directed any of the stop animation movies he produced except I think Vincent.

Tim's my hero but they need someone with a fresher take.

This movie looks bad anyways, the color schemes should have stayed with book images.

  • oh actually he did these stop-animation films:

    Nightmare Before Christmas

    Corpse Bride

    James and the Giant Peach.

  • tim burton didnt actually DIRECT any of those. it was henry selick

  • NO! REALLY! WHOA!

  • Wrong... Tim Burton directed Corpse Bride. He didn't direct any of the others though.

  • omfg I totally can't wait until this movie comes out! Coraline is one of my favorite books but I'm so mad it's coming next year!

  • ME TOO! YAY! ERG! I'M HAPPY AND MAD!

  • I remember it was my favourite book. and now its a movie! I can't wait!

  • I can't wait to see it. Things seem to be going very well for Neil lately, which is great. He deserves it.

  • THe book was really good-i hope the movie will be too!

  • You bet the book was amazing. Oh, the production team better NOT disapoint us

  • I thought Tim Burton directed The Nightmare Before Christmas....

  • Nope. NBC was based on a poem and concept drawings Tim did while at Disney, but he was directing another movie at the time. Sellick doesn't get a lot of notice for the fact that he directed, probably since he and Tim didn't really get along.

  • Mmmm...I see.

Well, I'm glad I know that Selick is directing Coraline, now. The Nightmare Before Christmas was directed real well.

  • I have TNBC artbook, and it says Tim didn't want to direct the movie, he needed someone fresh, so he chose Sellick.

He had to stay with Disney because he created Jack while working on the movie 'Vincent', so the character was not entirely his property (Jack makes a cameo in 'Vincent', I think). Heh~

  • nope, jack isn't in vincent. unless it's REALLY sublinimal, and it's not really a movie, it's like 5 minutes long.

  • After watching the special features of my DVD copy of Nightmare Before Christmas, I can honestly say Burton and Selick couldn't have been on bad terms--Tim saw Henry as his alter ego. Tim turned the reigns over to Henry because Tim had to do Batman Returns.
