This engine is so simple, why can't new engines be as simple as this? All the stupid ass new engines have air hoses everywhere! I have no clue what those things do, but old engines are so much easier to understand. And the thing that gets me most is the electric fan! Why not have it connected to the engine and running all the time?
@norfolkdash9 Yes they are simpler, but you have to consider other things like the amount of power in relation to the fuel intake, fuel economy, reliability, emissions, ect. Btw, they arent airlines, they are vacuum lines. Also Electric fans are better because they have very little drag on the motor when compared to a clutch fan, and electric fans only come on when needed.
Yes I know they are vacuums and I have no idea what they do, and I like the fans connected to the crankshaft because it is always on, I am not much of an electric guy so it hurts me when something goes down. Plus, I honestly don't care about emissions, as long as I have my torque and my pulling power. BTW, I realize that toyota engines are good engines, I just don't like/buy anything other than American.
pulleys, water pump, cam, pistons and modified intake with a carter 4bbl and my old 150 300 embarrasses the kids at at the drive thru chasing light to light (tg the lights are close tho)at half price
my dad had this motor in his 1990 econoline E-350. The motor outlasted the body, and the motor was still in perfect shape when it was sent to the bone yard. The only thing to ever go wrong on that engine was a pully shaft split.
I have an 1969 f100 with a 300 in her.SIMPLE!!! is the word.I just added a new Poney1 barrel carb.RUNS GREAT!! needs paint and some very small stuff .There is something about an old Ford Truck
In Australia we're still powering falcons with essentially an old 250, though you wouldn't recognize it under the DOHC crossflow head. Variable cam timing, Turbo versions that put V8s to shame, it's a world class engine.
fukn awesome man! my 82 has vacuum lines, this one don't. ford's fukn mistake right after the other was the vacuum lines and ending this motor. but i guess since these are so durable they wouldn't make any kash with the escort or other
I might get an 88 ford inline 6 today. I test drove one awhile back and that motor had more pull than my 360 motor....those inline 6 motors are amazing.
blah i have a old 300 farm truck with a 4 speed and a 411 gear in the back has a mild cam headmen headers a 4 barrel and a 9in rear with locker, and im out running most v8s on the streets
You gotta respect the old inline 6 cylinder. I have one in an 1993 f150, its a beast 31 in tires 4 foot exhaust. it will pretty much haul anything. the only thing is 12 mpg. and it rides like an old dump truck. but, thats part of the appeal.
Really? I can get 15.5 miles on a single gallon of gas with mine. ( put one gallon in an empty tank and got those numbers). And it even has a 373 axle, and long bed with 4WD.
Would not help much the truck has an aggressive exhaust and a rich fuel mixture. but I don't mind the poor mileage it a beast ain't pretty but can haul anything.
Got it, but still a beast none the less. Mine is a 1995 F150. It is 100 percent manual. Tranny, hubs, transfer case. windows, it has AC but I always open up the back winder and flip out the cozy wings!
That's interesting to see the carbureted version...I have a '92 Ford pickup with the fuel injected 300 and it seems like the fuel injection intake manifold and air intake takes up a lot more room in the engine compartment.
this last guys got it. i know multiple people who have these 300 straight 6's with more than 350,000 on em'. ford couldn't get their money out of them so they quit makin em'. big mistake i think. i love fords.
I heard Ford dropped the 300 is it was a little long for the new F150s redesigned engine bay when that model came out in the 1990s. Maybe they didnt want to make the bay long enough ? My dad owns a auto auction and thats what I was told.
I found a 1995 Ford F-250 duely with a 300 six in it, I found that strange. It would have been worth the $3500 if it had a Power Stroke and a manual tranny in it. Only 75K miles all farm use. Shame I need to haul a large 5th wheel RV.
@banther1972 I know right. My 95 straight 6 f-150 still running strong, will haul my 5600 lb bobcat on my 2100 lb trailer with the bed full of scrap metal like its nothing.
@banther1972 The best engines ever are the Ford 300 6, Chevy 350, Jeep 4.0l, Toyota 22re 2.4l and the Buick 3800 series 1 and 2. That is in my opinion.
@norfolkdash9 If you knew anything about engines are cars in general, you would know that the Toyota 22RE is a very good motor. Not the most powerful (nor is the 300) but very reliable and simple (just like the 300)
The ford 300 straight six is an industrial tractor engine... that is why they are so reliable and easy to fix... the reason they quit making them is because they are so efficient... sad but true.
Best engine Ford ever made. I've put lots of miles on a couple of those engines, one in an F150 with a T18 granny box, the other in an E150 with ZF 5 speed. The van got over 20 mpg.
well yea that and the 302 i have a 1983 Ford F-150 (2WD) with a 1979 302 (5.0L) and even in the winter one pump of the gas pedal and it fires right up ive never had a problem with it
but any older ford engine made back in the day is realiable its called no fuel injection and no computers without those two properties you have a reliable carburated engine
engines like that used brain boxes not big computers
is this the same block as the 250 six case im wondering if a 300 six will bolt into the 73 comet with the 200 or 250 im not sure what it is so will a 300 bolt right in
The '65-'96, Big Block 240c.i. ('65-'74 galaxies & some trucks)/300c.i. ('65-'96 f/m series trucks) I-6 family of engines is completely different from the '60-'84, 144c.i. ('60-'64)/170c.i. Special ('61-'72)/200c.i. ('63-'84)/250c.i. ('69-'80) (econoline, falcon, fairlane, mavrick, 'stang) I-6 family of engines.
But there've been several individuals that've installed the 300 I-6 into Falcon's, Mavericks & 'Stangs w/o to much trouble.
Yea I have a 1990 f150 with a 300 with a 5 speed trany also. It gets close to 17 miles to the gallon on the highway. Witch must be damn good for a 18 year old truck.
@AmericanThunder Is there a certain year range for the straight 6 the is the best or are all of them good? I have a 91 f-150 with a straight 6 and I LOVE it....it seems to want to haul something tho...runs kinda weird empty...lol.

Maybe someone got inured lugging the heavy head around.
Although there are aluminum versions.
I believe the engine never really got hot enough to get proper emissions.
But, why will they discontinue the Triton motors years from now?
I hope parts for the motors will always be available.
Why don't they re-invent a Honda CBX motor and mount it transversely in a Ford truck?
V- engines can be inconvenient sometimes.

why is there a PCV valve screwed into the oil filler breather and the rear hole in the valve cover left open where the valve is supposed to go
6030diesel 2 years ago 2
It's not a PCV valve, it's just a breather tube that goes to the air filter so that it breathes fresh air. The PCV is entirely missing here.
