Enjoyed the comment balloons. Perhaps this was an inspiration for the 1946 cartoons, Rhapsody Rabbit and Cat Concerto, but I don't think the relationship is very close. This is about animation itself, like most early cartoons, and usually strongly musicalized animation. By 1946 the piano could no longer be an animate entity (although still very subject to cartoon physics). The entire look and feel of the gags is different. Still can't deny the roots are here.

Thanks for this wonderful cartoon. I'm looking for a Cartoon of Goofy playing Chopin's 2nd Scherzo in which the legs of the grand piano are burning. Do you have a clue ?
I LOVE the annotation! Thank you for that. How cool that you can see them if you want or simply click the "hide annotations" speech balloon. I learned something new today.
Great Video!!!! Because of the april fools day 1911 youtube thing, I clicked it and I now feel like I am at the cartoon theater on Main Street U.S.A.!!!! They have rag music playing in the theater!!!! Everybody try it!!!!
The name missing here is Ub Iwerks. He was the genius animator who was one of Walt Disney's best friends and earliest partner. Ub animated several of the first Mickeys almost single-hand idly. When they formed their first company, Walt and Ub named it "Iwerks-Disney" rather than the other way 'round. They were afraid that "Disney-Iwerks sounded too much like an ophthalmologist's.
From what I read on TV Tropes and Idioms this cartoon was the first time Mickey was ever seen wearing his white gloves, also read on there that he and other certain Disney characters to exist as far back as this are some of the oldest examples of cartoon characters to wear white gloves, I guess that means Mickey and some of the rest set the trend for certain other cartoon animals and maybe even certain video game ones to do the whole wearing white gloves thing.
I've always speculated that they wear white gloves for the same reason Vaudevillian sleight of hand acts wore white gloves --so the people in the cheap seats can see the hands better in the spot light.
@MrMittendorf The reason the clip was uploaded was to help settle a debate about who first used "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor" in a cartoon. Maybe I should add more details about the other music as you suggest...
@laughland Wow! If that's the sort of thing you debate in your circle of friends, can I join your club? That's some incredibly detailed life observation. I'm impressed and inspired!
Has anyone noticed that the strech from 0.50-2.07 is remarkably similar to Tom and Jerry 'The Cat Concerto'? Not only is the same song played (Listz Hungarian Rhapsody no 2) but even the part where Jerry keeps the notes playing after Tom releases his 'fingers' is similar to Mickey at 0.57. Coincidence? I think not!
@SongsofInnocence The Cat Concerto was made FAR after this. So if you're getting at that Walt Disney stole the idea from Tom&Jerry, or viseversa, there's the possibility of course but at least I don't really care. I am impressed that you've noticed this but cartoons aren't made to be analyzed they are meant to be enjoyed. So watch a cartoon and enjoy it while it lasts.
I think that video's like these is why youtube is so fantastic. There are so many fantastic old video's and cartoon's I would have never seen without the fantastic people who post the video's and the people who invented youtube. :)

Wow, an old cartoon... where there is a mouse... at a piano... where Liszt is playing. There's no dialogue, and it heavily depends on visual jokes. If that isn't very reminiscent of Cat Concerto or Rhapsody Rabbit, then I don't know what would.
