Sony Ericsson K790a Bad Joystick

I have the same problem (with all directions not only with the "down"). And decided to not buy another sony ericsson with joystick. Same problem hapened years ago with my T637.

hahah... "funny" to see this old video but it's still reality for me. My joystick has evolved into even worst mal-functioning, however I've been using it - and only it - since 2006 up to 2010! I only had the patience to open it once or twice... now it's time to change (I know, I'm a saver...)

i have this phone 2 years now...the only problem is this stupid joystick,from the beginning..i sent it for repair two times and i have this problem again.. but its a great phone.(without this joystick) also i have and k750i for 2 years and the joystick is perfect..untill now. i cant understand why k800i has these problems with the joystick.

i have a k800i its the same just its 3G it has a camera in the front aswell for video calls and the joystick is more stable..

the joystick is the major problem in most sony ericsson phones... my phone sucks... the joystick only goes up.. 2 of my phones have problems with the joystick...

Just suck the joystick with your mouth to clear the dusts. It works with my k510i.

I got rid of this phone a long time ago .... didn't want to deal with its bad joystick. It did get repaired under warranty (had to send it in twice before they actually fixed it) but one I got it back I didn't want to deal with it anymore (as I knew it would go bad again) so I sold it on Ebay.

I have k800i and its EXACTLY the same

but when i try to go down in my games list sometimes it registers my down as a click

so its always opening games while im searching for one

My K800i had that problem until I sent it for repairs. But now it's spoilt. Oh yea, and I'm thinking of getting a new one, should I get the black or brown K800i?

Yes I have this phone too and have the same problem. I have a solution and it will work 100%. Do this, rotate the joystick 360 degrees clockwise and anti clock wise for about a minute. It will tend to work perfectly after that.

So if it works a bit, there is chance you can fix it properly. Do it in circular motion, sometimes the bottom rubber is not aligned to the press pad or it could be cause of particles in the joystick rubber, either way this method 99% fixes this issue.

no problems at all. you don't need to be rouugh. i have a friend who was very rough on the joystick and it like broke down in like 1 or 1 and half months. and that is fast.

Eso es muy facil de arreglar, solo con alcohol isopropilico, aire comprimido y 10 minutos.

The problem with u guys with the Joystick its that u abuse of it I bet u allways tap the joystick to enter in a menu when u can use the Selecc Buton.... or you play ur games with the damn joystick this ..... trouble has allmost all SE joystick.. just dont press it if u dont need it.. u can enter a menu with a lot of ways instead of pressing it...

Any SE phone with a Joystick is prone to this problem but the newer phones are much less likely to encounter this problem than the older phones (The K700 being a very good example).

Hey, I still have a k700i and i know the joy stick problem was a issue with this model, its definitely time for a new phone, i was considering the k790 but i might reconsider if the joystick thing is a common problem. Is it common or was it just a coincidence?

My K800 joystick screwed up in 3 months. My friend had hers run into problems about 6 months. Anyway I got it replaced FOC under warranty, but note it'll cost about S$50 in my country once the warranty is over. You have been warneD!

my k800 joystick broke in 3 months. My friend had it working for 6 months and it started getting erratic. I got it fixed FOC under warranty, And you have to waste time travelling and queueing to send, and collect it, plus a few days loss of use. Also it costs about S$40 to get it fixed each time after warranty period. Google for SE Joystick and you will see...

This mobile phone might be slow logical respones between the software and physical touch under the joystick. It seems to be no defekt , but it has to spinn the joystick around fast until it works normally

The K790a, K800i and K790i are all identical phones. The only difference is the 790 doesn't have the 3G band on (and front facing camera.) The "a" is the US phone and the "i" is international.

The body, keypad, screen, electronics, etc. are all the same on all the phones.

I don't know -- I'm sure you have to download it first. I just copy music onto the memory card on my PC and use that as a ringtone. Since it uses a memory stick you can use any sound file on it.
