Don't be silly. Even though the director and several people from the cast (who also happened to be friends with River) said he was not in it (and they didn't just say it - they were absolutely sure) you choose to believe he was in it?

Ok ok i watched this movie over and over and over, and paused the scenes river is in. He is in the movie twice that i can see. He is the one holding big white card when uma's character is making the commercial. He has brown pants on and a black hat. He is also in the scene at the end he is observing the birds, he is wearing a funny hat and glasses. Van Sant JR is the director. Colleen Phoenixxxooo

i am confused. i have this movie on dvd. i read somewhere on the internet that the director, gus van sant said river didn't play in the movie. the beekeeper does kinda look like him. but, i don't know for sure if it's really him. i don't think gus would say he didn't play in the movie if he did. just wanted to say that. gus would know. he directed it!:D
Gus Van Sant was the Director, the movie is based on the book by Tom Robbins of the same name. Gus wrote the screenplay. I worked on this film for months....the card was not held by river in the commercial scene.
River was ment to be a hippy in the van in this movie, but even that part looks nothing like him, I don't think he's in it and I sat thruogh the whole movie just to see (Bad Movie)
the hippies in the van were scott green and mike parker (from my own private idaho) and Rivers girlfriend sue solgot. the other guy who he's supposed to be (holding the big mirror shooting the advert) is clearly not him. this guy? if river were in the movie why would everyone involved deny it? he is the 'Pilgrim'- he was uncredited in the film. So, even if you watch the movie credits, you won't find him. But, he is there.

Hmmm... Gus Van Sant has said repeatedly that River was not in this movie. Supposedly the man in the beekeeper's hat is actually Jim Baldwin.

The film is shit, mate (and Gus is one of my favourite directors), but the soundtrack is just AMAZINGLY UNBELIEBABLE!
