Why does anyone need a long-lasting relationship? "Soul mate" is an invented notion. We trade up on cars, homes, jobs, friends, etc. Why not just keep in a relationship as long as it's beneficial and move on when it's not? Why be tied to ONE person forever? Humans do not do this in any other aspect of their existence.
