In many ways it's reversed. Many men throughout history demanded (and still do) complete devotion and servitude from their women, almost to the point of slavery, demand every bit of attention and honor, but in return give no respect or honor, and worse, no devotion, but instead stray with other women. The double standard has always been there. I'm not a woman, but I see this with my friends and their girlfriends. Guy wants freedom, demands it, gets it. Girl wants freedom, guy gets angry.
As a secular agnostic humanist I believe that our innate recognition of the "golden rule" is what will really change everything for the better. Shows like sex and the city, desperate housewives etc. will eventually be recognised as the absurd fantasies that they are. That they will eventually be tales of a reality that once was, once encouraged, but ultimately rejected by the better part of human nature in a society that doesn't need gratification from vicarious dramatised experience.
We are at a sociological and technological state where men do not need to embody warriors/hunter gatherers and women do not need to embody being damsels in distress and baby making machines. A lot of ideals, good manners and certain etiquettes have been lost. But on the plus side we are still evolving as a society and men can be more openly accepted as being sensitive and women can be more publicly forthright with objections.
It really focussed on men being the problem at the end. I can concede that men cause problems, however so do women. In ages past when technology wasn't so advanced, the physiological differences between men and women really defined gender/sociological roles. However with technology as it is women are on the same level as men and can work just as productively in any field outside sport. I don't feel that it is right that men or women ought to/need to be pandered to based on their gender.
religion is the biggest obstacle in the way of the rights and freedoms and opression of women.
relgion has been used in judaism, christianity, and especially the muslim religion to opress women and rob them of there rights!
Religion is a disease that is passed from parent to child, from generation to generation, like a birth defect!
