It kind of sounds like it was flooded. It was a shame it wouldn't start for the camera. I guess it was camera shy! Just kidding! Anyway, I have had plenty of days and nights like that with my old carb engines. This is especially true when it was cold out. I used to try pouring some gasoline down the carb tp get it to fire up. It worked a lot of times, but not always. Nice video!
open the butterfly, stick a screwdriver or something in it tto hold it open, and DON'T pump the gas! just turn the key and it should start. i wasn't aware that 1st gen had a carb. i have 2nd gen, and you cannot even breath on the gas pedal at ist start of the day, or it will not start. mazda dealer said they have same problem with rx8's on the showroom floor. good selling point, wouldn't you say?:)

@TwistTheThrotle mine did. when the engine loaded up with fuel, gad to pull teh pump relay/fuse, then crank it over a while to empty it
