He should've learned the original chords to this song. Especially the 'Lonely' section...the original is really outside harmonically, but hauntingly and beautifully so. This version is just kinda wrong.

The Katie Melua girl is lost in her harmonies and sounds too immature for this incredible song. Midler is the most polished and truest sung on recording.Butthisis a very good male cover.

I had never heard of David, but I think I'm in love. He has such a wonderful voice it is so soothing. Now whenever I feel stress at work I know just who i need to listen 2.
I'm afraid I have to agree. Here it is just another sad song performed by a talented musician. Newman's version sometimes makes me ache and nearly give up hope, sometimes makes me cry and hope for the best. I'm sure there are other David Gray covers that I will like a lot more.

Also, just because you don't like someone comment, doesn't mean that you have to give it a thumbs down: You could ignore it. I think it's very rude and disrespectful to do. I don't give people thumbs down their comments, only positives if I like their comment.

I discovered this song by the David Gray/jools Holland version...
and yes, it's original form randy newman, and it's a very good song
but, just perhaps I love David's voice, I like this much more than the original...it touch me a lot!
but it's just my personal opinion!
