How come each company doesnt have one trained sniper with a high powered sniper rifle? wouldnt that help in these situations? or is there just not enough cover? if not enough cover, why not have one for when there is cover back at your camp because there always firing at you
Our son was in this fire fight, and he is the one who was killed--SSG R.J.Chiomento II--we loved him so very much and always will, and will always miss him--thank you to whomever took this video, and also to whomever posted it.
I was sorry to hear about Robert Chiomento's passing........ Chio and I were close friends in 1-505 PIR back in 94 and 95..... Although he was from Jersey, he loved the Steelers..... after reclassing from being a UH-1H mechanic, he earned his EIB after being in the unit only a few weeks. Great dude! Great friend! He is missed!!!!
Darn thing! All that noise-the firing makes! If it was me-I would have called air support like yesterday...I pray these wars end soon. Thanks to all in this fight on terror.Huah!!!
Hunt.I am a VERY PROUD mother of an ARMY combat Veteran. MY SON was in this actual firefight. He witnessed the death of a friend and injury to others in his platoon. He will NEVER FORGET. ALl you can think of to say is concerning language? Their "profession" is to defend freedom. Not to monitor language. I am sure that if YOU were in a situation like this , you would be in a cave crying as you wet yourself.
Defending Freedom is not select only for American's its our duty to defend other's as well. And only the Taliban or a Muslim Extremist would view what we have done as an "Invasion". Removing a dictatorship and giving power to the people and democracy is not an invasion. Dont be an eletist fag and think its cool to have polar political views just because it will set you apart...it will actually, as a delusional moron. Especially since you have been to neither Afganistan or Iraq. -OIF/OEF Vet
You don't know if I have or not. And it doesn't matter if you have or not. You don't have to be in the Military to enlist your opinion or possible facts. America is just Invading a country out of their own faults, making silly excuses over and over. First its WMD, then its Oil, then its Freedom Fighting. Yeah, get real, pal. Americans are the Bad Guys in this war. Those are the facts here. I know many fools are not gonna agree and give me a thumbs down. But its the facts. Plain and Simple.
Unfortunately for one of your comments, WaroftheGalaxies, this is Afghanistan not Iraq. If I remember correctly there is no oil or wmd or "freedom fighting" going on there. Although I am not an American I view Afghanistan as a legitimate struggle namely because there was a direct link proven between AlQaeda/Taliban with 9/11. Even the UN accepted this. Therefore I believe NATO is doing good, just deeds in Afghanistan. Wouldn't you agree?
I'm not knowledgable much in Afghanistan. But I think overral, war is not the correct way to solve things. Why is killing millions of people, making others happy, just because of a couple of thousands died in a so called "Tragedy"? It's pretty barbaric, and a primitive way to solve things.
Its true but overall this mission is NATO and not American. So perhaps it takes a different goal aside from "killing bad guys."NATO hopes to rebuild Afghanistan and establish some structure of respect for human rights. If you were to read up on the history you would find that life for women and girls is horrible. Now i know that we in the western world are not perfect but i would daresay Afghanistan is a good example of a situation where foreign intervention is needed.Darfur is also an example.
Hmmm...oh dear. You are a member of those fringe extremist groups in the US.. I checked your site and I am not pleased by your 5 action points. "Mass political education", "Truth squads"? That sounds like extremism to me. I'm not going to tell you what to think, but I am going to posit that your kinds of viewpoints are not conducive to concrete, feasible solutions to Afghanistan or Iraq. By rejecting org. like NATO, IMF, WB you alienate yourself from plausible, constructive solutions.
No, I do not think the IMF is a charitable org. But if I were to do as your group does and resort to windbagging about the imperialism of the Washington consensus and the outgoing Bush administration, I fulfill the self-fulfilling prophecy of political alienation. To change the system, you must be within it. The IR community is not going to listen to endless tongue lashing over the IMF and WB. They will listen to those who give PLAUSIBLE solutions to reform the system, not to do away with it.
Oh and, just because you don't agree with the majority or with "Society" doesn't make you delusional or crazy. I mean really; Muslims aren't the majority, Christians are; but does that mean ALL Muslisms are Insane because they don't become with the Majority and believe in Christianity? No! All the Christians could be flat out wrong and Insane. We don't know until the facts are here. Don't let some random Charlatan write crap and fool you into a wrong way of thinking.
Well its not that hard to understand really. War is raged on countries, not rebels. Like afghanistan, the country itself is fighting the rebellions, so do we, Dutch in my case.
War is a conflict between country's.
When the quote is used 'war on terrorism' it isnt correct.
Not at all. War's are fought against insurgent groups as well. Besides, just because Karzai has the blessing of Nato doesn't make him the legitimate government. Don't try to act like the karzai gov. is somehow a tribune of the people or something.
the f-word is a key part of the language for a soldier. all soldiers swear constantly, regardless of the country and period in time. i've read personal accounts from the 17th century and the swearing was ripe as fresh doo-doo. english swear words are unsurpassed and are regarded with reverence by soldiers internationally. i've heard saidi, greek, turkish, french and polish troopers f'ing and mf'ing with gusto to enhance their native vocabulary of curses - so of which are truely exceptional!

FOB ripley was changed into FOB martello when the canadians took it over. We covered for them up there during Mountain Storm. IDK what happened with it after the Mountain Storm was over, did you guys take over?
nope, camp Holland is still camp Holland. It's the base of operations for the dutch Tarin Kowt force and the main base for the aussie force AFAIK and it will be atleast until the cabinet decides wether to stretch the deployment or call the troops back.
I would like to thank both the US and Dutch troops for their effort to build up this poor country. Stop using these posts to make stupid comments. Fight the taliban and drink a beer when you finished.
Axe actually comments about how the ramp ceremony for one of our fallen soldiers was pretty poorly attended, because the vast majority of troops in Camp Holland was out fighting the enemy. Simple tactical situation, if we have to defend Tarin Kowt itself from Taliban attack, we can't get further into the valley.
Oh hell, all of you need to chill the F***ck down. Sometimes we just CANT help other forces in the area, because the situation in our own AO does not allow it. In fact we were fighting in Chora, and we had been for a while. There's videos about Dutch Artilley engaging targets and there's a documentary from David Axe, all in the related video's section.
The Dutch apaches are almost on a daily basis in action and they suffer a lot of damage. They already had maintenance problems and awaiting spare parts which comes from US and Canadian industries. They should have more personel and apaches coming in, but if it already gives problems...?
Same level as the French well then i consider the US as same level as the freaking Russians and the Dutch are doing a great job there in Afghanistan. not only helping the civillians but also destroying the Terrorisme there!!!
if your going to comment in english you need to make sence. I guess your saying we are like the russians? ok well the russians never did anything humanitarian and we have dumped billions in projects to better thier lives. Man are all of you ignorant tools?
Good luck to all the dutch in the valley you have your work cut out for you. We support your fight and feel your pain. We wish you had been thier for us when we first cleared that hell hole in July 2006. Good luck guys! God be with you.
You might wanna check out the videos about the DUTCH commandos fighting their way out of a encirclement. DUTCH artillery pounding on Taliban targets. The video about Poentjak FOB. Or the new one, about DUTCH OMLT getting helping out ANA, while the American reservists weren't helping much(actually mentioned in the newspapers)
well we are not reservist. we were active duty. and if the dutch are finaly getting in the fight it's about time but it will not heal the scars on our wounded or bring back our dead friend who gave his life while the dutch refused to come foward and left us out-numbered 50 to 1. will it? no it won't. nice try big guy.
Why don't the Dutch remember that? I sure do. The only thing the Dutch did in Afghanistan was bring females with them, Hotties! Which I must admit, I beat off too in the port-o-pooper. I now consider the Dutch to be on the same level as the FRENCH.
if your going to support than do it! if your going to hang out in the rear and tell everybody your supporting us than fuck off! Backstabber who's the backstabber you are. dont say you will help and then hide bitch!
Then your goverment should STFU and dont ask us to support you. Its your shit what created this whole fucking mess in the first place. We didnt sign for attack role , we are there for helping afghanis not killin taliban > thats your fucking job (and you doing so damn well ;) that the coalision is falling apart).

well slick let me tell you somthing. This was an aussie mission we were supposed to be supporting you. We were not supposed to be in a attack roll but here's the deal buttercup. When your genuis commanders decided to "get into it" they got what they asked for. WE told them it was a bad idea But they new it all and went into that valley anyway. When the fighting began everybody ran like cowards and we were left to fininsh the job.
We didnt run like cowards, First we got info that there was a high concentration of taliban forming up that area who were planning an attack on 2 separate police post over there. Afghans were asking for help wich Nobody replied to at that time.
We choose to act and asked the aussies for support wich we did get, but not in combat support because the risk of civilian casulaties were to high (you were right) . after our artilery pounded there positions, we heard 50 civilian death and then pulled back
Sorry about the rushed /bad talk before. Emotions are sometimes in the way and your boys do the best they can , so do ours. Sometimes mistakes are made and hope we can learn from them in the future. i met a lot of assies and they are Great guys and i would join the battle with them Any time
MUSBUCK2, don't forget the two "DUTCH" AH-64's that were on station during that last ambush.(last ambush = largest fire fight since Op Anaconda, also US forces). you remember the 2 AH-64's that would not come down and engage because it was to "hot".
No. That was because unlike the US, we don't just shoot around and risk civilian casualties. There was a high threat of collateral damage, so we decided against sending in Apaches with Hellfire missiles and 30mm chainguns and unguided rockets to blow everything apart. You see, whereas it's normal in the US to kill half your own troops and hundreds of civilians for one enemy casualy, we don't agree with that. Our pilots check and souble check again before even opening fire.
thier were no civilians they left 2 days before....all of them! we were completely outnumbered and called in targets but the dutch coudn't see because they were to busy hanging out watching us try to survive.
I bet you use it as a pick up line at the bars fruit cake! The only area you guys do own is 4km away from the old Russian bunker and the District Center. Now if you want Dutch videos of Chora Valley, I suggest next time you guys pick up a bat and get in the game.
Otherwise keep your comments about the Dutch to yourself.
I do remember your 20 strong. I believe I saw more UAE guys than Dutch. I dont know if you were there or not. What I do know is, that we handed that area to you guys and now you only hold 4km of the whole valley. I got that information from the news lastnight. Way to go!!! Keep bragging about the Dutch in Chora Valley!!!

Our pilots check and souble check again before even opening fire.

the same that thos god damn aussies wouldnt support us there, wasnt within the guidelines.
thats why everyone should have the same rules. (coalision uses different radio's etc, wich makes communication more difficult.
Nato should first Tune itself before going to war. Wel they didnt.

This comment is for Jturd and his ignorant comment above.
I fully remember Operation Perth. And I do believe the only casualty to come out of Chora was from American Forces.
