Aww...She was really lovely. I lost one just like her. She did not play the piano, but each one you lose holds a special place in your heart. And it seems people who keep pet chickens are the only ones that get that. The next time someone asks if you ate her, ask them if they eat their cats or dogs when they pass away?
I love Beanie! Sorry I just found her clip! She is beautiful. Is she a Golden Comet? She reminds me of our Coco Golden Comet. People just do not realize how smart chickens really are. I read that they are as smart as 3 year old humans! Some just stand out more than others. <3
Unfortunately, as Beanie's stardom was poised to skyrocket, her young life came to an untimely end. I'll be auditioning another later this year and hopefully she will keep her memory alive for many years. Thanks
@jrw92046 Hopefully it works out, I am so sorry Beanie died. I love chickens, and I do my best to train mine good aswell. Never knew they could play piano.
Unfortunately, Juliard has an age restriction for students under 2 years old. I'm not sure what that works out in chicken years, but I'm sure they still wouldn't reconsider. Besides, when you are a prodigy, you don't really need a degree from any school.
Oh definitely, the thing about Gregorian chants. lol
Jim what do you think about dabbing cream cheese on the keys of an electric keyboard and letting a couple of hens have at it? Do you foresee any problems? I'd love to set up some kind of entertainment for the neighbours' kids and we have an old $10 keyboard.
I see...It's the length of time it takes to train them that got me thinking of inducements. And we don't have a little piano like that, so maybe a xylophone? with metal keys..
The xylophone would probably work. I picked up Beanie's first piano on eBay. When they finally make the giant inductive leap between action and reward, it goes pretty fast.
I prefer to think of her vocalizations as a primitive form of Gregorian chant. In ancient times it was common to raise chickens and perhaps the Gregorians got their song ideas from them. Just a thought.
The chicken maybe playing the keys but not the song! It's a ready made song, or something else cos it's not right look at 1:19 the key's pitch goes up when it's played to the LEFT! :S:S magic chicken?!?!?!?
This was Beanie's own piano creation, in real time. The sound might be out of sync because of the codec from editing. However, I am ashamed to confess that she did a "Villy Vanilly." Her voice was dubbed onto the vido. The truth is finally out as I knew it would. I feel better now. However, this WAS her voice, only she didn't sing the song at the same time as playing the piano. All professional singers do it on TV all the time, so she didn't do anything that hasn't already been done.
I have tried a clicker at various times, but it is simpler to reward the behavior directly. I am working on a booklet that shows how I did it. Let me know if you want me to notify you when it is finished. --Jim

That would probably work, but it sidetracks the fun of them actually playing for the fun of it. Or at least they seem to be having fun.
