Youtube XL is a pile of dog shit on the ps3 it lags,its clunky and video quality is just pure shit thats why I use ps3youtube on my ps3's browser waaaay better than xl and the videos are in HQ and HD and it runs alot smoother than xl.

Playstation 3, is basically a PC, his hardware is the best, but why is so slow sometimes?, having 7 cores processor and XDR RAM?, the fact is, that software designing in the PS3 is hard as like the Sega Saturn back in the day, thats why any video game company, doesn't really like to develop a game, even there´s a couple of games but not like the PS2, programming routines for PS3, are hard to code, due to the machine desing, so put working 7 cores is hard, thats why sometimes things are slow.

Well i didn't  mention something related to hard drive, but the PS3 uses as you said 2.5 form factor hard drive of SATA interface, those are common on laptops or small PC´s, if you wanna put more capacity is simple, just remove the HD case located at PS3 left side and put your new HD, is a normal SATA 2.5 HD, no addons or strange things, remember PS3 is in common words basically a PC, but designed to specific things, gaming.

I didn´t understand so much, but you are maybe try to say, that all your music, videos, pictures and game data, will dissapear, well the answer is yes, before do a HD change, you gotta backup all your data, (that can be made automatically on the PS3), then you could proceed with your replace process for the new HD, and also, O.S of the PS3 its integrated on it, the HD is just a way of keep data, updates, and any related of about the user and the PS3.
