Hi bro, great cover there... is that a fender highway one jazz bass ? sound really cool with that dimarzios... those things are split coil pickups under the hood think of like a p-bass pickup with a jazz bass shape, the tone can be similar to th p-bass on the neck pu ?
No, it isn't a Highway, it's a plain Jazz bass. I've done it some modifications as a BadAss bridge, graphite nut and of course the p/u. The DiMarzios are just a direct jazz bass replacement. They're even passive but with a combination of alnico and ceramic, making them a high output passive p/u. But no, they aren't split coil, as far as I know.
You have a very clear and nice sound, is it due to the ultra jazzes or the amp? I am playing a fender jazz and i feel that my sound is a bit muffled muddy and distant.. I am considering getting new microphones. Do you reckon the dimarzios would do the trick?
Thanks for your comment. Regarding your question, the P/U have a lot to do with the sound but are not the only factor, yremember that the tone is a combinatin of many things (P/U, woods, amp, fingers touch, body size, etc) so therefore it's hard to pinpoint what's the factor. My advise is just experiment, change variables until you find the right tone for your music.
Well, that's a very tough question. Basically, what I use, particularly during that solo, is arpeggios, dominant-diminished scale, melodic minor scale, pentatonic scale, diatonic scale. See, it's not what scale or how many scales are you using, it's simply how much are you "saying" with whatever resource you use. Good luck and and thanks for watching.
