I think you smart, and your parents gave you the gift of free thought! Also, my two cents is that the group fighting against Scientology is putting out information that may pull people into Scientology. I think there is an inbetween, but I don't have an answer, nor do I want to offend people that have lost family or spouses to this "Religion".

Concerning the science/religion-thing, in my opinion he advertised his work in the beginning as science because science was in high regard at that time and alternative religions were still suspicious, then later Scientology was relabeled a religion because of the general respect any religion gets these days, no matter how fringe, and because of tax-exemption. Another thing: Scientologists are working from a whole different semantic basis than the rest of us, having completely other understandings of words. "Mentally healthy" for them is equivalent with "clear", while for us "clear" is more like "screaming mad". So by their definitions, they probably *are* following the code to the point.
