It's probably something like Maya, Softimage XSI, 3ds Max or anything else...They are all very expensive softwares around 5000€.

But there is one for free called "Blender". Although it's at no charge, it is really really good. Have a look at "Big Buck Bunny"!

It may be a bit more difficult to figure it out, but every 3d animation software is hard to learn.
