  • You have such a nice voice :)

  • Very nice!...just uploaded my cover.... Really amazing...job..great vocals...

  • Very nice!...just uploaded my cover

  • Like butter. Many thanks from San Francisco

  • I just stumbled upon your video. Isn't it wonderful the things you come across by accident. It is quiet beautiful; your version of Prines song. In a way you have taken a little piece of it for yourself. Good luck.

  • Amazing the renditions of this song on youtube. I decided to play around with it and do a clip so I started watching all the covers. I watched yours all the way through. Can't say that for many....... very nice! Thanks for sharing. I have a version if you care to check it out. I'm old school. O...... I'm saving up for an 814ce.

  • Good job man

  • Yeah man. Do you write any of your own songs? You have serious potential

  • Akangell you should write some songs, or do you just enjoy covers more?

  • @basinbayoubum- Hahahaha I cannot stop laughing at your comment below. The fact that you would comment negatively on how you think the reverb sounds like on this song and simply deem it as "good" after watching your videos is absolutely hilarious to me. I literally had tears in my eyes laughing when I clicked your 30 second strumming videos and my speakers filled with static and other awful noises instantly. People never cease to amaze.

  • I really like your voice...I don't hear many guys cover this song.....I did a cover myself if you wanna check it out!! Great job !!

  • its good i just dont like the reverb effect its kind of like a john mayer song ??????????

  • Dave Matthew's version. This was written by John Prine Thirty years ago. Dave matthews was a shine in his daddy's eye when john prine wrote it and Bonnie Raitt put it on everybodies play list. That is John Prine's version and I got to say you do it proud! keep singing.

  • whoa - your voice is the real deal!

    a very enjoyable performance

  • thanks, much appreciated. :)

  • Nice Job! Just learned the song from you. Awesome song. John Prine is the man! Thanks:)

  • hey, cool. glad i could help. :)

  • LOVE THIS!!! How did you get the voice effects? I just posted a version of this song... :)Love yours!!!

  • I recorded this on a Macbook with GarageBand and then added the Live Performance effect, which just adds a little bit of reverb.

  • great job

  • thanks

  • Nice cover. I also like your guitar playing.

Do you use a Taylor? It looks like a very expensive Taylor...

    5 stars for your efforts

Check out my cover too, if you have too much time ;)

  • thanks. yeah, it's a taylor. this one's an 812ce but i sold it and got a new 910ce. :) i like em.

  • absolutley fabulous. i am a singer/writer in nashville tn. love this song you have a great voice my friend

  • thanks a lot. i appreciate the kind words. :)

  • great voice - nicely done

  • Nicley done, bud.

  • lovely :)

  • its not a big deal.. dave matthews took the song from john prine.. and now hes singing based off of dave matthews version.

  • You're flat.

  • The original singer is John Prine

  • Obviously you didn't take 1 second to look at the post right before yours...or the many before that.

  • This is a John Prine cover not Douche Matthews!

  • I know (knew all along) and it's been discussed a million times already!!!

  • awesome

    5stars

    check me out

    your friend,

    SUPERTRAMP

  • Nice job, really enjoyed your version!!

    Sarah xx

  • Great!!!!!!!!!:)

  • Great job, and you have an awesome voice, but you should really change the clip's title to JOHN PRINE cover. It's his song, bro, not Dave Matthews'. Besides, you do it better than Matthews.

  • Very good my friend! You've got a lot of soul in your voice! Keep up the good work!

  • Dont sweat the hammaann,

He had his head stuck up Dave Mathews' @ss reading for the liner notes of a John Prine album.

    Great Cover.

Malvasio has a good one too

  • Great job! I normally prefer the songwriters version of songs, including Prines on this one... but I keep getting drawn back to your performance of it!! Can you tell me the chord and or fingering you use in the chorus between G & C ?

  • I really liked this. You have a great voice. Wanna sing to me? : )

  • thanks! sure, any time. ;)

  • Don't threaten me with a good time : )

    xxx

  • you did a cover of a cover. i recommend listening to some john prine and redeem yourself!

  • I recommend you take a look at previous comments before you make your own. ;)

  • Ya know...I have watched damn near every cover of this song on here in the last couple of days and this was the first time i wasn't utterly bored!! lol.. I love your voice...very soulful, and I wasn't sure how I would take to a man singing this song but Im impressed!! Great Job!! I also did a version of this too if you would like to check it out!....again AWSOME!!

  • And actually the song was not written by john prine, he just sang it.

  • Incorrect. John Prine wrote this song and it was on his 1971 self-titled album. Lots of people have covered it, though, including Bonnie Raitt, Tanya Tucker, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Paul Baribeau, Susan Tedeschi and Jill Johnson.

  • I coulda swore I saw a acoustic version on youtube, I can't find it so I guess your right, but I coulda swore a woman he knew he said wrote the song, at least that's what I rember him sayin. Whatever great song good job!!

  • All I know is I want to listen to some DMB now?

  • GREAT VOICE !

  • I really like your voice...you're really great!

  • You did an amazing job with that song!!! I understand why you wrote by "Dave Matthews" because you're doing his version. who cares what mean people say! You're very, very good.

  • That's cool cuz I was gonna b that dude, So thanx.

  • The only Dumb-ass is you paulhaggard65!! You frickin tard...

  • Dude...thats a john Prine Song.....Bonnie Rait, Dave Matthews, and others.....when they sing it...it's a cover.

    Dumb-ass!!

  • as explained many times, I KNOW IT'S A JOHN PRINE SONG!! That's why I said "Cover of Dave Matthews doing AFM..." instead of "Cover of DMB's song..."

  • great sound. i love it!

  • This sounds good, you really have a nice and warm sound, love it!!!!!

  • that was a gay comment coalinga99

  • "Cover" that term is so strange. It was first used to describe when white singers would hear a hit song on black radio and then their version on white radio (they'd "cover" the black hit to make sure they got some value from it). Now, it describe anytime a person is playing a song written by someone else. I don't get it, when I sing "this land is your land" or "america the beautiful" or even "I wanna hold your hand" am I a "covering" it? No. I'm singing a song.

  • I think that is a very good point. I always thought of it as a state of mind. If you approach it as a cover, thats what everyone will hear, and vice versa.

  • What are you even talking about? A cover means you didn't write it. Quit getting all deep.

You should blog about things like this from now on so you can say stupid shit in a place where I don't have to read it.

  • You're mean.

  • A cover of a cover of a cover. Bonnie Rait made the song famous, I am sure it's been covered many more times than just the famous people that did it.

  • Fantastic Vocals - Great sound!

  • Dave Mathews has no soul....

John Prine has more talent in his sleep than Dave and his whole band put together.

  • why cant you cover a cover? shure you can

  • Hey man this is a John Prine song, not Dave Mathews. You can't cover a cover, can you?

  • Yes, I know it's John Prine. This has been discussed many times already. I put in the description that it's Dave doing this song. Not a cover of DMB like I normally put in my descriptions. This is indeed a cover of a cover. I've got some others posted too (all along the watchtower, for example)

  • I love the connection you have with the music when you play, it's so free. Doesn't matter what song you're playing, you always got this thing about the way you play that puts everything at ease. It also doesn't matter that you're just "covering" songs because you still have that connection and that's all that matters.

and I agree with everyone else, you do have one hell of a voice :)

  • I clicked this video to ream you out for not knowing that John Prine wrote this song... You sound good, dude, check out other Prine stuff, your style and his lyrics can go far....

  • Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow! really sounds great hon :]

  • beautiful man.

    that was great

  • what a sexy voice! matches perfectly to this wonderful song,... great job ^^

  • You have a nice voice.

And I love this song :)

Where did you get the guitar tabs???

  • I am willing to bet Hammaann still doesn't have a job. Had he been job searching before the bottom fell out of the economy he might not be sitting at home all day in his underwear criticizing every person that sings and plays better than he can...good cover DMB in the title or not...doesn't take away from it...any person with a few brain cells moving around would be able to tell it was a Bonnie Raitt cover of a John Prine song...keep on posting the videos and send him each one please

  • VERY good job 5*

  • Dude you can sing to me any day with that sexy voice.

  • Excellent... Beautiful voice, thank you!

  • Angel from Montgomery is my fav song of all time and to be honest...you are the only male singer that can pull this off since john prine....good job man!!

  • GOOD JOB!

  • THANK U for this vid. i never got rid of my guitar and recently just got back into it and LOVED this song when i saw it on into the wild...i'm now playing along with ya! :)

  • i like the story of this song :D

  • Great rendition.... Like your style

  • Really good. Nice voice. Who cares what all those douche bags say, either way YOU did a killer version regardless of who wrote it.

  • Ask him if he is mad about everyone who has covered Ring around the rosey. OR mary had a little Lamb for that matter :-)

  • Hey akangell

I think your DMB version, cover, styling of, this song was great. Tell hammaann to give a listen to some modern music, he might actually enjoy it if he weren't picking it apart. people can embrace modern music without forgeting classics, he just doesn't want to. He wants to WOW you with his infinite wisdom and knowledge.

I thought it was very good. besides hammaann is doing this to everyone.

  • By the way. What John Prine is "happy with" is that he gets PAID by people like Dave Matthews to use his song.

  • Give it a rest man.

  • Ignore hammaann. This is great.

  • Let us know what artists you are SO passionate about people NOT covering, so I can find some OTHER songs to do renditions of.

  • If you don't sound like them, how is it a "cover" of them?? It's not their song, and you don't sound like them... What is left? You "thinking about" Dave Mattews when you play the song makes it a DM "cover"?? That's just stupid.

You're going to do "Watchtower" and call it a "Dave Matthews cover"??? Pathetic.

  • LOL. Man, don't you have anything better to do? I see other people griping at you on your page cuz you're annoying them in their vids. Have you heard DMB's version of Watchtower? It's like no other. To do it that way and post it without referencing DMB would be silly. You obviously haven't heard Dave's story of how Bob Dylan performed in front of DMB not too long ago and told Dave he left Watchtower up to them...

  • Oh.. And you don't REALLY think you sound or play like Dave Matthews or Ben Harper, do you?

Truth is, you want "Dave Matthews" in the tags and title in order to get more hits.

  • Are you kidding me? No I don't think I sound like either of them. Those are simply the versions I think about when doing it myself. Truth is, 95% of the stuff I have posted is Dave Matthews Band covers. This was one of the songs added when I had nothing but DMB. It was just added to the collection. I'll be doing All Along the Watchtower before long and I'll put DMB in that too. Am I gonna hear the same crap from you when I post that video?

  • You don't HAVE to mention anything. You could just say it was YOUR song if you wanted to. Why don't you do that?

No, it's not "common sense" that it's a John Prine song. There are LOTS of ignorant people who don't know who wrote songs and don't even realize that famous people, who perform songs, didn't write them. You apparently want to perpetuate that thinking and disservice to song writers like Prine.

  • I do not feel I am doing any disservice to John Prine by not putting his name here. It's a great song that many people cover and everybody loves. I'm sure he's happy with that.

  • With your 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers. little finger on the high E string, 3rd fret. That leaves your hand in a much better position for getting to the C; walking up through Am from G to C; the first finger is avaliable to play inner notes like the inner A for a major 9th or the suspension or the major 6th... The list is nearly endless.

Oh... and don't call me "dude". That got old in 1985.

  • sometimes i end up playing it that way. just depends on the song i'm trying to play. whatever makes it easiest.

  • I did read the info. The first thing in your title is DAVE MATHEWS and NO WHERE do you mention John Prine. DM doesn't have some distinctive or unusual version of that song which you are emulating. It's pretty-much exactly like a thousand other people have done it. You are simply singing a John Prine song that you HEARD DM do. You are not "covering" Dave Mathews. You are COVERING John Prine. Won't you please credit him?

  • You're funny. I don't have to mention John Prine. As you're implying yourself it's common sense that this isn't a Dave Matthews original. As I mention in the notes it's DM "doing" the song and I mixed in some of how I've heard Ben Harper do it too. And yes, if you listen to the two versions (Dave and Ben) they're very different. I kinda mixed the two here cuz I like em both.

  • Oh. And whomever taught you how to play a G chord that was has really done you a disservice. Learn to play it the other way. It will take you far!

  • dude, it's a major G. nothing special. and what do you mean "the other way". There are many ways to play a G chord.

  • Umm.. Why are you attributing Angel From Montgomery to Dave Mathews? A thousand people did it before Dave Mathews was born.

It's a John Prine song. Get a clue about where songs come from... the AUTHOR!

  • How about you read the info and get a clue yourself..??

  • That was actually shockingly beautiful. I was raised on the Bonnie Raitt version, and I like this better than the Dave Matthews version.

  • you certainly earned these accolades(sp). An absolutluy fine job. Salute. Sir.

  • awesome :o)

  • actually i'm very familiar with john prine. i play this song and many others of his.

i was replying to brandon's comment, "Dude, your voice turns me on." and i must have hit the wrong button

  • heh, that's funny. and less confusing. :)

  • Ugh the gay comments are uneducated as usual... This song was originally written and performed by a guy John Prine. It is written from the perspective of a 47 year old housewife from montgomery. I think you did a very good job with this song, I feel like half the people that try and sing this song don't get it and don't feel it and just hit the notes. I thought you felt the song which is awesome gj.

  • yeah, that stuff doesn't bother me. i kinda figured he didn't understand this song was written by a man and many men have covered it. i'm glad you liked it! :)

  • whoa whoa whoa whoa

    turn down the gay

  • lol. ok...

  • Dude, your voice turns me on.

    Good Job.

  • Dude, that was amazing. Your sense of musical style somes through pretty clear. i like it man. This might be the best cover on the net to be honest. Great voice man!

    Peace,

  • wow, thanks! :)

  • nice guitar - what kind? Good cover, love John Prine

  • thanks, it's an 06 taylor 812-ce special edition. :)

  • ok.. that was good !!

  • thanks!

  • this is magical, honestly... very nice cover man!

  • wow, thanks!

  • ok, so given the amount of comments I take it that we have covered the fact that this is NOT A Dave Matthews song......I love Dave don't get me wrong....just say'n

  • yes, i'm pretty sure we all understand that fact. ;)

  • You have a voice like rich smooth chocolate. I was sceptical about a male voice doing justice to this song, but you were a revelation. Thank you!

  • The song was meant to be done by a male voice. This guy does an excellent job, but most covers of AFM have morphed the song from it's original "rough around the edges" blues/folk sound into a polished/pretty version. Check out the video posted by StAlphege to see how John Prine actually sings it - WAY cool.

  • beautiful

  • Fantastic cover!

  • thanks!

  • Very nice

  • thanks!

  • I think this is the Best rendition I have heard of John Prines beautiful song ever. I do not usually compliment but you sound much better than Dave and John and Bonnie. A+++++

  • wow, what a compliment. thanks! i'm glad you liked it. :)

  • Your voice is amazing. Keep it going.

  • thanks, will do.

  • wow your greatttttttt luv your voice keep up the great work luv sissy

  • thanks!

  • you have a very nice voice :)

  • thats was the best cover oter than dave that i have ever heard i love it!!

  • thanks, i'm glad you liked it. :)

  • Hey , this is really good. Well done.

  • much appreciated.

  • Nice job! gave it 5/5 amazing how many different ways this song can be played.

  • thanks! yup, it's a fun song.

  • This is one of my favorite songs that Dave ever Covered. You did great justice to it my friend! All of these videos are perfect. I am self taught and Dave happens to be my favorite. But all of his songs are nothing short of my Everest. These videos are going to help me out a lot!!! THANKS!

  • thanks! i'm glad you like em. i'm the same way. picked up the guitar and learned how to read the tablature. that's about the extent of my knowledge with music. i wish like hell i could actually write a song like any one of these!
