Marching vibraphone, bells, xylophones, marimba, and timpani. If you couldn't march it, you couldn't play it. You don't need 4 marimbas and 4 vibraphones. That's 8 people right there. You could put 4 on timpani, and have the other 4 on bells, xylo, vibes, and marimba. And have them march as it's supposed to be. LOSE THE PIT
I grew up on this old stuff and love it-- this was an iconic set piece. But honestly, this chestnut with it's wet rag-like silks is actually starting to pale versus today's eye-poppers. Old rules like leg lift were so meritless. It was all about precision, sure, but get real-- these sets aren't that intricate, fluid, innovative or precise. Also looking closer now, notice the rifle line's last triple was only done by half the ready rifles-- an unthnkable design flaw in today's terms.
Oh, HELL-yeah!!! :-D I've been looking for Phantom's "Flight of the Bumblebee" for a while, now --- now, *that's* a percussion-feature! :-D And I can't resist: CONGRATULATIONS TO 2008 DRUM-CORPS WORLD CHAMPIONS, THE PHANTOM REGIMENT! (the championship was *really* owed them for performances like *this* one, but better-late-than-never)

This is how it was done. Too bad DCI burned us playing their west coast favorites.

Fun. Notice the DMs coming out of the completed file at 1:30. One pops out of the line at the back, and one from the middle.

BTW, speaking of ticks, there were none in this solo, or for the rest of the show either for that matter.
