  • muy buena

  • sounds very good other than a few intonation problems with the saxophones (and sometimes the brass), i believe, but hey; don't we all have intonation problems once in a while? overall, this is played excellently for a middle school band. ^_^

  • This is where i form baby!!!!! 2006 my first year in this band!! Damn ! so miss u guys !

  • 16 people are haters for us Chinese!

  • 大胆なカットだわw

  • Well done! I just posted a video of our high school (in Hong Kong) doing the same piece (I'll add it to the video responses if possible). I hope you'll drop by and take a look (in your recording the brass lines are coming through much more clearly!).

  • wow. they are good in comparison to my high school bands

  • 1:48 is so beautiful

  • this is a middle school?

    wowww

  • I played for this band for the last 6yrs. We all felt disappointing when we had to cut those most beautiful parts because of the time limit by the competition.

  • I cant believe this was recorded by a Middle school band... this is FANTASTIC!!! Kudos!!

  • technically amazing, but they rape the middle section of its musicality. its a ballad. i was thoroughly unmoved and because of that disappointed.

  • My American high school wind ensemble is preparing this piece for our final concert! Bravo!!!!! Loved it!

  • wow.. but part 1 sounds cut.

  • I played this in the band in Besana in Brianza (Italy) with my horn. I think that these japaneses has the vice of the speed (especially in the central part) and too few expression. Try to check out the Besana band in this version of El Camino Real that I published. It's called "El Camino Real - Corpo Musicale S.Cecilia"

  • Middle Part of this Version sucks really hard...

    noo music! just CRAP!

  • i'm playing french horn in a orchestra and it's rlly hard to play...

    but this people here...woaaah xD

  • I would go to this school if I still lived in China. The ironic thing is, I'm playing this same song in high school and it sux.

    =.=

  • Ahh! What happened to the Euphonium solo?! They skipped the best part! :)

  • I am a freshman oboist at PHS and The Wind Ensemble is doing this song. It is coming along good. It would be amazing if it could end up sounding this great! Just needs a bit more work

  • Comment removed

  • Although they took a cut, This is still outstanding muscianship

  • a bit faster than my school played it, but i would definitely try that speed 8D

2nd cornet for me on this piece, also one of my faves from high school ^^

  • good techniques. abit fast though.

  • a middle school is playing this ??!? WTF. wow im amazed.

  • typical entrance from alfred reed...big big entrance..then slow and lyrical..then a full circle ending at the end

  • やるじゃん

  • i think that it´s too fast! but they play really welll!! wow

  • lol, 2:52 ;p

  • ive never heard a middle school play at this level it makes me proud to know that kids are getting taught

  • The talent is incredible. It should definitely be applauded.

  • @soadrules366 listen to the japanese middle sch bands. they wil blow u away

  • @soadrules366 in China, high schools are sometimes referred to as Middle School. (or rather, it's translated that way).

  • this was awesome....i played this my junior year and by no means is it easy congrats to you guys in your 6 min time...i played 2nd trumpet

  • shame about the stupid 6 minute rule, otherwise this would have been even better.

i played this and it's definetely not easy

  • we playin this for our marching show this year sometime around november maybe search erath at showcase 2009 that would be us

  • hey u form vista! hey gl man im from ranch and we playing tangiers dude gl on tournaments hope to have a greta compitetion this year!!!

  • 好快哦==

    哈哈

    跳了几部分

    但还是蛮不错的说

  • small part was fell!

  • wow this is pretty crazy, great job and great sound. This year my high school is going to put this into a field show haha.

  • Played this myself a while ago, tough piece to be sure, but I don't like this recording much I'm sorry to say.

It's fast (which is synonymous with asian it seems), even the long trumpet-less middle section feels rushed; not only does it feel so, it sounds so too unfortunately. I'm also more used to 'fuller' orchestras, the trumpet/cornet section sounds pretty thin.

Still, hats off, this is by no means an easy piece!

  • well, it's fast because of time limitations in the competition rules

  • Just to clear some stuff up.

    1) In (almost all parts of) China, grades 7 and up is considered to be "high school". It is very typical for schools to run from grades 7 - 12. Hence the term middle school and high school is used interchangably.

(ex. 7th graders and up will write exams, whereas 6th graders & below will not)

    2) In this recording, the band is in a competition which states that the pieces must be under 6 minutes.

Other than that, I think this recording is Great! 5/5

  • I think it's fast because it had to fit the 6 min. requirement...? Just a thought...:)

  • Really great peice, hard to beleive its a middle school band

  • They skipped measure 75, that's the best part.

  • I played the brass band version, this is like the funnest piece you can ever play.

  • この曲、今年の夏のコンクールで演奏するんです!

    私はホルンです。この曲はホルンが頑張らないといけない部分がたくさんあるので、

    頑張ろうと思います!∩^ω^∩

    絶対金賞とるぞー!

  • ofc its too fast its an asian orchestra ^^

  • this is really a bit fast, but I like in anyway, and the quality is great! Good job!

  • I liked it a bit slower - its needs a good moving speed but i find this a little fast.

  • its indeed a little fast! haha... but other than that i totally love it! Asians could play too!!! haha...

  • wait, is this really middle school? it says high school in the info but...anyways, CHINESE PRIDE!! haha lol

  • it was ok but a lot of the part was cut out .

plus i couldnt hear some of the parts to well.

other than that you guys sounded good

  • good clarity.. didn't really like some parts where i felt the brass were actually blasting too much.. managed to bring out the mood of the song though. good job

  • they started off well, but they slowed down halfway. Great job anyway!

  • Alot of the music is cut out, but I LOVE the tempo and the tone quality! And if a MIDDLE SCHOOL can play this piece that's wonderful. It doesnt matter what country you come from, have respect for the music and the musicians who play it...

  • no realy good....

  • this el camino is ok but alot of part is being cut...

  • DAM THAT IS ONE GOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!

  • go fuck urself u jealous son of a bitch

  • No fuck U

  • racist cunt

  • I adore El Camino Real.. Played it twice in HS and am playing in college at an upcoming concert... Everyone should play this song at least once in their musical career! :)

The middle school does a great job with it... I'm impressed.

  • It's a fun one that's for sure.

  • A MIDDLE SCHOOL!??!?!!

  • my exact words.

    WOW.

  • that makes 3 of us

  • Sounds like a professional orchestra....

  • I should say...

    This is AWESOME

  • This is the best recording of the song on YouTube. It's a bit of a shame they cut out over 50 measures.

  • wow. what a pitty that i havent even seen one single show of the school band besides the national anthem every monday morning at the flag raising ceromony.

  • it's not so difficult like it sounds!

i played it a few times, the beat and rythme is qucik learned! sorry for my bad english, im german :-D

  • Yes, the piccolo part is so much fun!

  • They look way older than Middle Schoolers... Imo middle school = high school. But yeah they're ridiculously good for not being professionally paid players.

  • China's education system is entirely different than America's. I'm nearly positive that "middle school" extends well into 17 or so for Chinese students.

  • Im pretty sure its the same. G7-9 is call middle school 1 -3 and grade 10-12 is called High school 1 -3 etc (I was born in Taiwan so it is something similiar like all asia education system)

Difficulty? hell yes alot harder, thats why theres such a big compeitition on exams to middle school

  • RESPECT!

  • middle schools are different there and they usually start band when they are like 8.

  • I'm a french Horn player and we're playing this peice in Queensland youth orchestra at the moment and OMG these people are awesome. They're french horn players are INSANE. I would love to know how they areticulate those beggining passages so well. I can barely play them adn thats at normal speed! These guys are awesome. Song would be better though if it wasn't sped up.

  • did the credits say MIDDLE SCHOOL?

    lol

    wow. brilliant.

  • I played this with my harmony and it's pretty cool to play!

  • Wow...I have this recording somewhere in my room or something...

  • who is the composer of this? are there any other versions of this available for purchase on CD?

  • Alfred Reed

  • This piece was played nice and sound balanced. But I do think that the volume that the trumpet parts played were a bit low. It would be better to hear them. Btw, the running notes played by the woodwinds were extremely clear and balanced. Nice piece at all!

  • The piece being shortened would explain why it's not lining up with the sheet in order.... Very impressive band though!

  • Wow, our school played this before, but it is nothing compared like yours. Yours is really beautiful :)

  • That was really good. we played this piece in our All-state concert band and it seems to me that you didn't have a string bass part nor a harp part. other than that it seemed about the same tempo we took it.

  • .......

  • how long are the practices, do you know?

    i love this vid. x]]]

  • El Camino Real is SZBand's repertoire piece. The band have been rehearse and perform this piece in nearly every concerts its hold since 2003. This particular recording was made just after the principal conductor of China National Symphony Orchestra gave a 3 days dedicated training for this piece. By the way, middle schools in China may be different form other countries, normally its students aging from 13 to 18.

  • I knew the middle schools were different but that is still really amazing.

  • man, this middle school is so good im having a hard time believing. their impressive

  • seems some parts are missing?

  • do your band went to shen zhen music festival last year december 2007? im the euphonium soloist from the malaysia school band..

  • Sure, SZBand is one of the three founders of that festival, the band took part in the festival every year. Welcome you to visit Shenzhen.

  • as good as i suspected. ^^

    i really admire this school.

I love this song and they have a great sound.

    Great timing, and sound. [[again]]

I almost cant believe that its a middle school band. WOW. lol. nicley done. X]]]

  • holy crap the beginning is just insane.... I thought we're playing fast but this one is like 50% faster than the school I went.

  • The slow bit sounds really Wu Liao when played this fast. But yeah middle school in Taiwan/China is ...it's different. There's no grades. It's like middleschool level 1 to signify 6th grade or something like that.

I live in Taiwan btw =D.

  • wow, haha

  • And where is the Euphonium/Baritone solo?!!

  • A little fast in the slow section...

  • This SERIOUSLY came from a MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND?!?!?!?! I have heard this peice many times and i have heard college bands mess this up

  • @MSUdude2010 Middle School there is grades 7-12

  • this was played amazingly, but i think they took it way too fast. i've played this piece and it sounds better when you don't rush it as much. but the slow section was perfect!

  • This is PHENOMENAL coming from a middle school band. Fantastic.

  • Very good performance. I enjoyed listening to it. I play in a community band and have played that piece many times. The mallet percussion was right on the money!
