@kcballroom - Yulia didn't say it was 100% improvised. She said it was 80% improvised. I teach improvisation, so I can make the educated guess that they give themselves certain markers or goals - places to hit, certain moves to do, over the course of the dance, then improvise their way from one marker to the next. Not a difficult concept to grasp, nor terribly uncommon in the larger world of performance. They're just absolutely superb at it.

@kcballroom: This is a show dance. What Yulia said at the 2011 world Latin championship, "in competition" 80% is improv. Show dances, I agree, are not improv but even these does not look the same every time they dance it, there are differences, most are small but some are big.

The point of improvising in competition is, as I understand it, to better connect with the music. In their shows, the music is set by them, so they can choreograph to match the music with no need for improv.

the reason they seperated is because Max had retired from competitve ballroom..that's y Yulia now dances with Riccardo :)
