As for the ad thing, i guess once in a while, if you actually like the product and don't act way to hyped for it, then it's ok.
If you praise a drink and then get a sour look on your face and start to turn away with puffing cheeks like it's about to come back out, even if it's edited, then i believe the term for you would be "Nob" but I'm not sure.
Basically, don't act, just do as you feel for the product, and I'd respect you.

Go for the advertising! People can just skip the last 10 seconds if they want. Some video producers with adverts will put a bit extra content after the ad to get people to see it, but that's down to you. :)

I didn't know there weren't other versions of Survivor. I assumed it was like the other reality shows (___ Idol, Biggest Loser, Big Brother). Mark Burnett & Co. are missing out. Maybe Survivor costs more to produce than those other shows?

I abhor video adverts, but only if it directly affects the content. I say if you keep your content and if it's at the end of ur vid - DO IT. You make incredible vids, I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating and editing them; lastly, but most importantly, sending you wishes of much good fortune in your degree! : )

it is selling out the moment you change mayor things about your videos, like the frequency you post new vids and what is in them, to get more money out of them.
just putting some commercial at the end of a video is definitely not selling out.
I say you should let them advertise on your channel, but don't do anything after the advertisments that way if we do not want to watch the advertisement we can just close the tab!
School is costly so no i dont think it would be selling out to put the ad on ur site. Just dont make an ad every 5 seconds where your talking about how nice a pair of shoes are or whatever is being advertised. lol.
Do it dude, advertise. As long as it doesn't influence the content of your videos I'll still be a fan. That and I know what its like to be on the breadline while studying.
I'm betting that a lot of your subscribers are students, so we understand (as long as you don't change / censor your videos for the advertisers). One of my favorite channels is travisandjonathan, and they show (but generally ignore, except the beer) product placement.
i realize they're all replies... but having like 10 posts from one person on the front page is a bit crazy... also, as long as it doesn't infringe upon the ToS I say go for the ads. it's not selling out unless you make whole videos about a product (in my opinion)
How can you like that show, ok the first season was interesting and I watched it because it was original, but after 3 seasons it became the same old tired crap. Too bad you're not asian, gay or black. They always need a token one of those and your chances would be better.

Many internet stars do the whole advertising thing. Don't feel bad about doing it, if you really need it. Money does not come easily, seize the chance. It isn't as if you are totally changing your shows. If it is for a noble cause, which it is, then take it.
hmm..on CBS' website they only have a feedback tab at the bottom of the screen and on it it has [message type] section. One of the message types is a request and just tell everyone in ur upcoming campaign video to request for you to be in it. Trust me, they'll be overwhelmed with thousands of emails :D

Hugh, if you got on Survivor I would actually watch it.
As far as selling out, if you need the money go for it. If you need it for your PHD I won't hold it against you.

it is selling out the moment you change mayor things about your videos, like the frequency you post new vids and what is in them, to get more money out of them.
just putting some commercial at the end of a video is definitely not selling out.

I say you should let them advertise on your channel, but don't do anything after the advertisments that way if we do not want to watch the advertisement we can just close the tab!

School is costly so no i dont think it would be selling out to put the ad on ur site. Just dont make an ad every 5 seconds where your talking about how nice a pair of shoes are or whatever is being advertised. lol.

Do it dude, advertise. As long as it doesn't influence the content of your videos I'll still be a fan. That and I know what its like to be on the breadline while studying.

I'm betting that a lot of your subscribers are students, so we understand (as long as you don't change / censor your videos for the advertisers). One of my favorite channels is travisandjonathan, and they show (but generally ignore, except the beer) product placement.

i realize they're all replies... but having like 10 posts from one person on the front page is a bit crazy... also, as long as it doesn't infringe upon the ToS I say go for the ads. it's not selling out unless you make whole videos about a product (in my opinion)

How can you like that show, ok the first season was interesting and I watched it because it was original, but after 3 seasons it became the same old tired crap. Too bad you're not asian, gay or black. They always need a token one of those and your chances would be better.

I think it's way cool that you asked us about the ad thing instead of just doing it. And because you asked so nicely, I say DO IT. We've all been struggling students, and as long as the image is at the end and not the beginning of your video, I won't mind at all.

He doesn't need peoples approval, just like no one HAS to watch his videos. He makes good videos thats why so he should be compensated. Youtube has no respect for talented video makers but they partner cheaters and people with 100 subs.

I never said he needed our approval, and neither did he. I just thought it was cool that he would ask our opinion before he made a change to his video format.
I agree with you. Hugh is ridiculously talented and that's why we're all subscribed. I'm sure he'll be a partner soon.

Hmm... get paid to tack an add to the end of a random vid you were going to do regardless? I though you were smarter than that, Hugh. You obviously have marketable popularity even if YouTube won't recognize it. Why not cash in on it while it's worth something. Wait too long and all you'll get for your fame is a smile and a "he looks familiar" as you pass people on the street. YouTube is making money off you, why shouldn't you make money off you?

If you think the product being advertised is worthwhile then you are not selling out. If the product stinks but you advertise it anyway THEN you are selling out.

Many internet stars do the whole advertising thing. Don't feel bad about doing it, if you really need it. Money does not come easily, seize the chance. It isn't as if you are totally changing your shows. If it is for a noble cause, which it is, then take it.

hmm..on CBS' website they only have a feedback tab at the bottom of the screen and on it it has [message type] section. One of the message types is a request and just tell everyone in ur upcoming campaign video to request for you to be in it. Trust me, they'll be overwhelmed with thousands of emails :D
