@Speedygi81 every (smart)phones are now have HD video recording in it, even in Full HD. Some are better in comparison with iPhone 4 footages, but then again it feels nothing without the apps and some unique equipments (like Owle Bubo, which mentioned in this video's description). If you ever heard this app called Filmic Pro, it emulates the manual controls of a DSLR/ professional camera if not entirely complex.

Great work! I've done films on my iPhone as well (iPhone 1 and 2 though) as stop-motion animation clips. On some of them recording large parts of the soundtrack in postproduction with an iPhone3 and 4. But the only problem with it is that it's mono. So not the best choice. Better if you have a more professional tool for the audio.
Congrats - great job! The iPhone captures good video especially in that nice bright light but you sure made the best of it - very steady mounts and smooth movements - very professional editing. The sound is probably the weakest thing about the phone's camera so I'm not surprised you brought in other recorders here and there.

@emmanuel90212 We used on board audio from the iPhone for most of the audio. The interview with Greg was captured to a TASCAM DR 100 and the interview with Rhys was captured to our 5d mark ii with a Rode VideoMic.

@dfctve We just slipped the iPhone into the case that was provided. It didn't fit perfectly. We cut a slightly larger hole out of the cases. They still worked great!

While I'm sure that it is technically true that you used the iphone 4 to shoot everything, it is never-the-less somewhat deceptive to use attached lenses for something advertised as "all shot by the iphone 4!". The implication is that anyone using just their iphone 4 could replicate this quality, when in reality the iphone desperately needs an actual lens and an external mic to get anything workable out of it. Your physical augmentation of the iphone camera make it not just the iphone anymore.
@JackBlackBeard I agree completely, it needs to be stressed that there is an additional grip, optics, and microphone and is NOT A STOCK IPHONE 4. This is deceptive indeed! Nonetheless, it is true that iPhone 4 has pretty acceptable video quality (stock). Just not as good as this.

@banido Actually, yeah, they do. Look at all the Canon 7D and 5D Mk II videos/short movies, there are some Nikon D90 etc. ones too. Same goes to other cameras like the Flip ones. It's about showing the potential of the camera, so that others can see where the strong points and the negative ones are. And of course also to advertise the video.
Who cares if it was shot entirely with the iphone 4 or not. This is an excellent video about racing on Pikes Peak on a Multistrada. I plan on returning there in about a month for some more fun.

if you look at the runtime in 2:59 and compare it to the 0:31 ... does it look familiar that they used that camera ( on his head ) to film this part ?
@oukiza I personally don't care to keep responding to these comments of this video being fake or using other cameras, but I'd like to clarify a few things. We had other cameras around to film behind the scenes. Contour HD cameras were mounted to Greg as well as the iPhone 4. The other camera's footage was not included in this piece.
Including shots from other cameras would've completely defeated the purpose shooting this film. The "funny" looking other cameras are iPhones in OWLE bubos.
@hoptocoptermedia There is not enough time in the world to respectfully address all the neigh-sayers. Don't worry about it. There are plenty of smart people out there who get that this is true iPhone 4 only footage and are impressed.

the person in the reflection is not the one filming this video. watch the movements. I'm only skeptical about the onboard shot. But the rest seems like it was filmed on iphone.
Definitely not filmed with an iPhone. First of all, the reflection on the tail light at 0:06 clearly shows that it's not an iPhone. Plus the mic isn't good at capturing sound at a distance over probably 4-5 feet. So many gullible people...
The movements of the camera don't match the movements of the guy in the reflection. I have an iPhone 4 and I did sound testing. The apple microphone does capture sounds pretty well beyond 5 feet all the way up to 10 without quality loss. Maybe you used the mic under windy conditions?
Anywho, I've got no doubt this was all done on iphone 4.

@truceklan666 We had other cameras there to shoot the behind the scenes. The OWLE bubos hold the iPhones. If we filmed this with our other cameras, it would look much better. This was a purely iPhone 4 video to test it's performance.

@bloodhorsevideo It does record to H.264. The editing is no problem in CS5 as it handles it natively (Like it does with Canon 5d Mark II footage). It just has some artifacts that show up pre-render. Other than that, it's no problem for processing. It's actually very light on the processing side. Thanks for the feedback though!

with the bubo, one could because of the filter threads on the lens that come with the bubo could put on a letus35 than put on slr lenses... I know that you would lose at least a stop or more of light but it if you light properly you would be getting great optics on a Iphone.... really interesting in a sense that it will force the high end professional camera producers to kick in to high gear to build better and more affordable cameras.
Not trying to act like an asshole but its not a raceway. Its one way up a mountain road. There is no rumble strips around corners. Its a public road and has the same pavement as one.
When you upload a video directly from the iphone 4 to youtube it exports only up to 420p. Wish it could upload in 720p like you have done here with premiere. THat would be the only downfall to the iphone 4 hd video shooting as i can see so far.

@banido Actually, yeah, they do. Look at all the Canon 7D and 5D Mk II videos/short movies, there are some Nikon D90 etc. ones too. Same goes to other cameras like the Flip ones. It's about showing the potential of the camera, so that others can see where the strong points and the negative ones are. And of course also to advertise the video.

Do you happen to know what case you guys used with the iPhone 4 to fit into the Bubo, since they [Owle] haven't quite modified it yet from the 3GS version?

Good lord. Any of you that think that the camera in the reflection at 0:06 is the one taking the footage have a really horrible understanding of physics. Next time you are in front of a mirror, align yourself at an angle, like what you see here, and tell me if you see yourself. If you do, you're a seriously wide load.
Stop being clowns and just appreciate the work that went into this.

@oukiza I personally don't care to keep responding to these comments of this video being fake or using other cameras, but I'd like to clarify a few things. We had other cameras around to film behind the scenes. Contour HD cameras were mounted to Greg as well as the iPhone 4. The other camera's footage was not included in this piece.
Including shots from other cameras would've completely defeated the purpose shooting this film. The "funny" looking other cameras are iPhones in OWLE bubos.

@hoptocoptermedia There is not enough time in the world to respectfully address all the neigh-sayers. Don't worry about it. There are plenty of smart people out there who get that this is true iPhone 4 only footage and are impressed.
As more and more videos come out that are iPhone 4 only, people will have to get over their obvious (and strange) bias. In the mean time, relax, ignore the doubters, and know that you made a cool little film using a phone.

the person in the reflection is not the one filming this video. watch the movements. I'm only skeptical about the onboard shot. But the rest seems like it was filmed on iphone.

Definitely not filmed with an iPhone. First of all, the reflection on the tail light at 0:06 clearly shows that it's not an iPhone. Plus the mic isn't good at capturing sound at a distance over probably 4-5 feet. So many gullible people...

The movements of the camera don't match the movements of the guy in the reflection. I have an iPhone 4 and I did sound testing. The apple microphone does capture sounds pretty well beyond 5 feet all the way up to 10 without quality loss. Maybe you used the mic under windy conditions?
Anywho, I've got no doubt this was all done on iphone 4.

@truceklan666 We had other cameras there to shoot the behind the scenes. The OWLE bubos hold the iPhones. If we filmed this with our other cameras, it would look much better. This was a purely iPhone 4 video to test it's performance.

@jmalonear I use Adobe CS5 and it's rockin. It's so fast with HD and it works with the iPhone footage. It's a little glitchy unrendered though.

@hoptocoptermedia I believe the iphone records video in h.264. I've found that transcoding to a more editor friendly format like HDV or Apple ProRes speeds up editing and export time enough that it recoups the conversion time and then some.

@bloodhorsevideo It does record to H.264. The editing is no problem in CS5 as it handles it natively (Like it does with Canon 5d Mark II footage). It just has some artifacts that show up pre-render. Other than that, it's no problem for processing. It's actually very light on the processing side. Thanks for the feedback though!

with the bubo, one could because of the filter threads on the lens that come with the bubo could put on a letus35 than put on slr lenses... I know that you would lose at least a stop or more of light but it if you light properly you would be getting great optics on a Iphone.... really interesting in a sense that it will force the high end professional camera producers to kick in to high gear to build better and more affordable cameras.

When you upload a video directly from the iphone 4 to youtube it exports only up to 420p. Wish it could upload in 720p like you have done here with premiere. THat would be the only downfall to the iphone 4 hd video shooting as i can see so far.
