Is this the same Mr. Kise Sensei who taught on the US Marine Corps Base Camp Foster at Gunner's Gym on Okinawa Ken in the 1980s-early 1990s? Thank you for your time. Osu
I have no doubt of Hanshi Kise's abilities. But his system is not the original style and his students are not taught as the would have been before the creation of Kenshin Kan. These are all thoughts of Sensei James H. Coffman, who is Jikideshi under Kise before Kenshin Kan. I believe his word is more valuable than anyone elses.
It has been conveyed to me through research and words of former students that O'Sensei Soken passed his Menkyo Maiden to no one, not even Handbook Kise. This is why Kuda, Nishihara and Kise all had different names for their systems. It was until the Japanese government wrote it in the books that Kise was made heir to the Matsumura Seito lineage. Kise is an amazing martial artist himself, but what he teaches is lacking and does not have my respect.
@houseoflightkarate You're correct on the Menkyo Maiden from what I have heard. One thing though, Kise was closer and more in line at the time with GM Soken and under him longer in years and spent many more hours of training with him. Kise has changed his style somewhat but if you were a high ranking belt under him I believe you would a different viewpoint. GM kise knows much that he does not flaunt around.
On another note. We were treated with great respect when we visited Master Shimabukuro's Dojo in Chatan. We were invited to visit again when we return to the Island. Master Shimabukuro is not afraid. He is a true Master and his Karate is extremely strong and impressive.
Kise studied under Zempo's father I believe at one time. I know for a fact Kise and Zempo are not friends. I say this in Okinawa in the later 60's. I do not know Zempo (that is who you are referring to, right?) but he is a a great technician from what I have seen. I would like to meet him one day.
I have been to Okinawa several times. Visited the Hombu Dojo with my Teacher. We were told we are not welcomed there. They are afraid of something. I know not what. But we were told not to stop in again. By the way, My teacher is Sensei James H. Coffman. Sensei Coffman was a student of O'Sensei Soken and Master Kise while on the Island 1960 - 1964 and then some. It appears that Greg Lazarus and a few other Clowns feel threatened whenever we are in the neighborhood.
I have never met Sensei Kise , but my Sensei does and he is for real . I think people who study martial arts today no longer have the respect of the virtues of the arts . Egoes are flying aound like wild birds that have no home . Im not being judgemential . T ake care
Mikes, I don't personally know Master Zenpo, but he has proven to be a true master. That being said, it has nothing to do with Hanshi Kise achievements. By the way, you still haven't told me where and whom you practice under?????
What I was trying to convey to you, ASSHOLE!!! Is that even though I do not Prcatice Okinawan Karate under Kise Sensei anylonger, I still have tremendous respect and courtesy to him, his system, and his accomplishments. No go back and hide in your narrow minded cave and suck ass to your Sensei, ASSHOLE!!!!!
He was once when he was teaching honestly. Now that he is BS Americans with unpractical techniques, he is a real deal for himself, but not for others.
I have never studied wid Sensei Kise. However, I bow 2 him & 2 others every Thursday and Saturday Before and after classes with Sensei Coffman who spoke highly of Kise of the old days. It is not really difficult to decipher what is true and what is not, what works and what doesn't. I judge a karate person as follow: A- he is rooted 2 the ground B- makes less moves C- Each move is a protection 4 himself, but devastating 2 his opponent. Whoever masters these 3 & teaches these 3, earns my respect
I after see this video of Kise I have to said is nothing new, I don't know how good he was in the old time but now is just another okinawa master, and also I think theare are some american people who training under Soken who are very good, so I think is time to look for people who can teach us the real Soken Karate and I am sure what is in this video have nothing to do whit real karate and is just Demo for people who want to belive that is old karate,
Yes, it's just a demo, and Yes, you are probably right, another Okinawan Master, but I'll tell you one thing, he knows more of Matsumura Seito than any man alive and any one tells you different is either jealous or full of BS.
You know Kise and training with him but for what I see of him I can not thinking is so good, I can said at list trhee names show me more high level the him and they have been training Matsumura Seito to and they are Tom Hunnicutt, Toshihiro Oshiro, Nishiara but maybe of course Kise have a lot to teach but I did not see so far. But remember I am your friend and I do not want to offen you at all.
Yes Jesus, we are friends, that is a given. What I am trying to say is Hashi Kise does not go around demo'ing his higher teaching, this is for his advanced students and not show, just as Master Soken did not teach one the higher skill till they learned a good solid foundation.
Look ASSHOLE!!!!!! I no longer practice Okinawan Shorin Ryu; I'm a Hapkido 5th Dan and a Brazilian JiuJitsu Blue Belt. I had the priviledge of studying and and obtaining my 1st Dan from Kise. He is the real deal; NOBODY can discredit his lineage or knowledge you DUMB FUCK HEAD!!!
Mike, it sounds rather like you are suffering from a grade school case of "my sensei's dick is bigger than your sensei's dick". Knock it off. Kise has his problems but his karate is no sham, nor is he a fraud. I don't study under him, but no one without serious self esteem problems poo-poo's his karate.
The only evidence you need of Kise's qualification is that he was directly appointed to the level of Grandmaster of Shorin Ryu by Master Soken, and confimed by the council. I learned under both these men, and I am proud to say so.
which Senei's are you referring to? Give some names here, don't put this trash on here unless you can document it. I've know Hansi Kise since 1967, Grandmaster Soken took him up to 9th dan, he received Judan from Master Shigaru Tamaiya. Some do make shodan in less than year, they work their butts off, many sensei promoted this way, they know who earned the belts. Go work out instead of posting BS.
Hanshi Kise was my Sensei when I lived on Okinawa from 1974 - 1978. Hanshi Soken was still alive at that time and he awarded me all of my belts (white, green, brown and then black)
ICH KYU Right here! HEHEHEH Who wanna try me? Sike just kidding.

You think Black Belt Magazine would feature a fake on the front cover? January 1983 (he was a 9th dan at the time)
