I like the way she's taken Rundgren's mood and smoothed it out. Like the female vocal version too. Todd's version still rules the world, but this is a close second. Good job, Amel.
i love this song my mommy played it when i was lil i actually learned this version then when i got older i learned the isley brothers did this as well i love both versions i always wondered wat aaliyah's remake would sound like since she remade a few of their songs guess i'll never know =(
mjjcng8958,This is Groove Theory's version of the song. No one can do someone elses version. I can't do your version of life because it's your life!!!
I like how GT made this more sultry, and I like the Isley Brothers' version, too. But... Mr. Todd Rundgren with the original still hasn't been outdone. I love the part in his version during the part of "It's important to me, that you know you are free." Fabulous!
I appreciate Todd Rundgren for writing (and recording) such a wonderful song. However, in my opinion this is the best version. The Isley's renditions is good too.
@LAWoman323213 Todd Rundgren recorded a live version of this song in Boston, complete with a slammin' horn section, that I think tops this version, the Isley Bros. version, and even his original version. Check it out if you get a chance. But honestly, I haven't heard a bad version of this song yet.
I thought that I would never hear another group do this fantastic song justice (besides its original creator Todd Rundgren, and an equally amazing perspective of this piece done by The Isley Brothers).
Very uncommon for me to like one song sung by 3 different groups, great job Groove Theory AWESOME!!
i honestly believe that beyonce listened to amel growing up. it seems that she patterend her voice after her. not comparing that two b/c amel controls better. but the similarities in the voices is kinda crazy. this song is making me cry

Wow, I never even knew they covered this song. I never bought their album. Back in '95 my head was wedged so far up Wu-Tang's butt, they couldn't do any wrong in my eyes. So that's why I let this gem of an album slip through my fingers.
Love the original and LOVE this version. Only a 90s Artist's could re-make a Classic like this and deliver it SO WELL! Can't wait to hear their new music this year!!!
I love this song, it reminds me of this really nice guy. We use to drive all over Malibu and enjoy good times. He wanted marraige, I wasn't ready. Oh well that's life.
This is such a perfect song. Every person who's ever covered it really knows how to make it their own. But, my favorite versions are (1) The Isley Brothers; (2) Mary J. Blige; (3) Groove Theory; and (4) of course the original by Todd Rundgren.
I have to disagree with you. Todd is good , however Amel is gifted, she draws out the emotions of the song. If you listen closely there is healing in her voice, she touches you with her deep compassion for the song.
i dig i dig, but are we forgetting maxwells urban hangsuite ... the album which changed my life got me into all that shit.. hip hop , funk, jazzz hell that album is crazy
eh! Maxwell's tha man. I remember still got that urban hangsuite....A Classic! But groove theory change the game. It wasn't even made fa radio, but they play it anyhow!
I actually think this improves upon the Isley Bros rendition - there version is almost too languid. Groove Theory picks up the pace, allowing the song to breathe a little more.
oooooowwweeeee! I am in love with the Todd Rundgren version because it personifies the 70's of my youth...but damn, this is doing it nice!
