Your description to this video has inspired me to learn these skills. I am in the same boat as you were when you were studying. I'm finding it quite overwhelming having to learn so much, but seeing you creating this amazing piece has inspired me. Thanks.
@davericketts Actually i am intrestid in the texturing part... I can track, model, but i never realise how did you do that whit the textures... HELP PLEASE!
kinda late this answer try rendering with some format that has alpha channel just like TGA ( targa ) make sure its in the highest bits...its gonna render just the 3D object and the background its gonna be black when u compost it u gotta layer the real vid under the 3D objet so the black part of ur render its gonna be kinda invicible so ints gonna be the real vid + ur render on top...heehe sorry but my english sucks I tried my best...hope u understood cheers!
its done with camera tracking software....then taken into a program like 3DS Max where lighting can be approximated, based on the real-world lighting in the video.
Textures for this video: Less is more as you can see,
i have pftrack 2.1 i cant figure out how to camera>esitmate focal length its grayed out and non clickable to idk how to be able to set up a grid plane! do u know whats wrong? also did u match grain or do nething else in AE? looks good
PFTrack was was quite robust, although it did crash on the odd occasion. I was using it on my desktop computer, its 64bit. Nothing special really. Hope that answers your question.
Its cool, i didn't really explain very well! I took loads of photo's of the building and stiched them together in photoshop to create a seamless texture. This technique isn't 100% accurate but it gave me the desired effect :D
real nice man... i really wanted to learn how to do that... got screwed going to school in the states... now trying to learn maya is hard and i never learned anything this nice... which is what i went to school there for in the first place. Is PF Tracker difficult to pick up?
Hey I just did my first match moving clip from my car the other day. Little more complex of a solution than typical Nodal camera movement. But fun none the less...
lovely work very well done

how do you render the motion track. I mean, when i do it only the 3D objects get rendered and the background completely black xD
stupid question, but i really need a not so stupid answer... plzz? O.o
tarrizzzzzzzzz 2 years ago
Composite using AfterEffects. Add your live plate and layer your graphic render over it using alpha channels.
davericketts 2 years ago
How do you render the alpha channel?
Another stupid question, sorry I'm new to Maya Live...

do you guys know how to get proper looking materials? Lighting?
Can someone explain their scene layout?
I just assign DGS material and turn on final gather... because I can't get proper looking material and lighting using Maya renderer.
What are your workflow?
thanks!

Hmm, without seeing it i can't help you. I will give you my email and maybe you can send me a print screen :D
AE- colour correction and grain.
I also used a depth of field render pass to blur the CG.

cowsquid 3 years ago
thats great work, I guess you can create just as impressive output or near enough with lower cost equipment.

Camera tracking actually is not that hard as most of ppl think, but with your creativity it turned out to some excellent video! Enjoyed it 5/5 ))

I was wondering if you had any problems with PfTrack, if it was instable at all, and if not, on what platform/specifications where you using it?

How did you get the windows to have the same reflections as the windows on the original building? HRDI or?
stokmarknes 3 years ago
It was done using a simple plane with the buildings texture.
davericketts 3 years ago
Allow me to ask, how did you get the buildings texture onto a plane? SOrry for newbish question, but I'm a rookie at 3D matchmoving;)
