  • A big difference from 35 years ago, eh? It is ashame that DISD doesn't realize the benefits of music along with general education anymore, and does not promote or encourage young people to excel in that area. The correlation between playing a musical instrument (or music in general) and basic reading is too strong to ignore. Educators need to WAKE UP! Thanks for the reminder, Chris.

  • Ah - the memories! BAnd - 79-82!

  • yea cougars

  • Brought a tear to my eye. Never in my life have a had such a bond with this large of a group. It was a lot of hard work, but man what good times we had.

  • What!!! Where did this come from? It was my junior year-Class of 77 and I rocked the Bari-Sax, Cotton Bowl Style! Now that I see this after all these years, its for sure Pittman & Daniels were masters at their craft. If it weren't for BA Band I would nevere have finished high school. Go BA!!

  • This is a great video. The band/belles looked very much like this most of the 80's. My brother graduated '84 & I graduated in '89 (sup ya'll!) so I saw them plenty. I used to think it was cool walking out of the house early in the morning and hearing band practice echo throughout the neighborhood. I was a good 2-3 miles away.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I was a member from '89 to /93. This brings back so many great memories.

  • I've been waiting for someone to put the amazing B.A. HS Marching Cougar Band on YouTube - so a million thanks! We were called "The Most Televised Band in the Land." I have incredible memories of being in this great band! Mr. David Pittman was our Band Director, and in my opionion, he was the genius behind it all. He worked us hard (Summer Band Camp in the Texas heat, 7:30 a.m. rehearsals before school), but it was worth it. I was a proud member of the trumpet section! Donna(Colbert)Carter

  • wow these are good memeries

  • I also was in this video. I was a freshman in 76 and played clarinet. If anyone has any more videos I'd love to see them!

  • I am proud to say that I was one of these folks. This sure made for a great senior year. Thanks so much for the video Chris! I would love to get any copies of the band from 74-76.

  • Yes, this was the 1976/77 Parade of Champions at the Cotton Bowl, shot on 16mm film. I have it and also 1977/78 on VHS and DVD.

  • '76 was probably the peak year for the BA band. A few years later we had fewer people, but most of the same music. Thanks for posting this. Somewhere are the original films from other years, someone please convert them to digital and share them with us.

  • Wow what a treasure of memories this stirs up! I thank you so much for this video! I joined the BA band the very next year and played the French Horn. Don Daniels was our director. He was a genius at designing shows in my opinion. We marched in the Parade of Champions, Cotton bowl parades, we went to Miami and played the halftime show for Dolphins and Oilers in the Orange Bowl, we went to Houston and marched halftime for Cowboys and Oilers pre-season game in the Astro Dome. thanks again, Russell

  • I am a 77 BA Grad. The Cougar Band was the best. My good friend played saxophone from 1973-1975 and the Band did a Presidential Innaugral Parade, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Cowboy Games, traveled alot of places. The were very sought after back then. Other High School's were blown away, as well as some Colleges as you can tell! It's ashame the band couldn't stay as it was. The Belle's were awesome too, very professional! Football games back then were a blast! Very good memories!

  • Wow, that was a pretty fun night. Many thanks for the upload.

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I was a member of the Belles for this performance -- and I remember it well.

Thank you, again, for posting it!

BAND AND BELLES -- BEST EVER! (Much better than the other saying the band used to have for us -- it referred to unnatural relations with ducks -- something to do with those fluffy petticoats.)

  • Always fills my heart with pride!

    We worked so hard!!

    Bryan Adams Marching Cougar Band

    Parade of Champions

  • This brought a smile to my face! Hard work, but well worth it! Big D's Big Band! :)

  • Wow, this is amazing!

I'm in my junior year at BA and in band.

The band isn't as big as it used to be, but it's not as small as it was my freshman year!

Freshman year it was around 30 people, last year about 40, and this year it's 57.

    :]

  • wow! I was in B.A.nd in 00-04 we were no where this good, this gives me chills we were like 50 people BUT WE MADE AREA competition in 02! it was awesome but wow I remember watching these videos afterschool and before tuesday night practices, post more!

  • Amazing video. This is awesome to see after so many years. Shot in 16mm film (no video back then), with microphone pickup up high not down on the field yet you can clearly hear the music. We played loud and the Belles kicked high. So happy to see this. Thanks for posting!
