I saw Darlene at an out door concert in Minneapolis around 1997. I sang along with her and she was surprised that I knew the songs. I had just finished reading her autobiography. An amazing story.
Dam dam, why oh why did that Spector remove Darlene's vocals from the original recording of "Da Doo Ron Ron" and replace it with La La's vocals , (ok I know why really) Darlene is much more in key with "Da Doo Ron Ron", I love La La but that song should have been Darlene Love and the Blossoms not La La and the Blossoms, I think Darlene was treated very badly. xxx
I love her!!!...Why she isn't given the credit & media attention she deserves so much.....I will never know......a voice for the "angels" in heaven! Thanx for posting Joe!
Darlene is singing with Bruce Springsteen at 25th Anniversary of RNRHOF Concert at Madison Sq garden NYC on Oct 29. Darlene Love For The Holidays at BB Kings NYC on Dec 13 & Bergen Pac Englewood NJ on Dec 20. The first ever Ronnie Spector Darlene Love A Christmas Gift For You live at Parilla Pac Rockville MD on Dec 11 & Count Basie Theatre Red Bank NJ on Dec 17. Basie show is a benefit for the Boys & Girls club Of Monmouth County. Darlene on David Lettermen CBSTV on Dec 23. Wow!
I really appreciate Darlene Love but it seems worth mentioning here that Da Doo Ron Ron as released by The Crystals was NOT one of her hit songs (it was actually performed by LaLa Brooks on lead vocals) and I have to say that I prefer LaLa Brooks' on the original hit over this.
Saw her about 17-18 years ago at the Bottom Line in NY. Small nightclub setting. She was awesome. She also re-recorded her hits around that time on vinyl. Wish they would release it on CD. Her voice was much more mature and the songs were a lot more up tempo.
I have an LP she did in 1985. She did a number of her old songs Live at Hop Singh's in Marina Del Ray, California. Don't know if this is the LP you mean. When I get time, I will convert that to mp3 and upload them to YouTube, if they are not already out there somewhere.
You're welcome. What a voice, huh? I saw her on Broadway in the production of "Leader of the Pack" a number of years ago --- just great! Hope you also found my other posting of her, as I mentioned under the comment below.
wow.. you heard her singing? live? must have been great, eh?
jepp. i found it of course - your other posting, i mean. i love it that she' singing christmas baby please come home every year. she's brillant and just doesn't lose that uncomparable voise of hers ! how i wish she had become more famous. for her sake and ours; for she definately sang much too few songs!! i'm sure you agree ;)
You are welcome, Russ. Darlene is great! Did you also see the one I posted with Darlene where she is singing "Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)" on David Letterman's show a number of years ago?
