I think what you are saying is kind of true, i think atheists should take a more cautious way of expressing their views than to do obnoxious actions. I am too an atheist.
I just want to say that I love Jesus. I know that I as a human am not perfect but Jesus makes me perfect in his love. I say this to the Rational Response Squad, the one who posted this video, and anyone else. Jesus Christ died for our sins. He died because he loves us. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son so whoever believes in him shall not perish but have life everlasting. John 3:16. I just want to leave you with this God loves you no matter what you have done.
1) Thousands did it, it caught their imagination. It goes beyond mere teenage rebellion.
2) The variation in response is fantastic - some were extremely well thought out responses, others were "two fingers up" - but in those cases, the oppression of Christianity in their lives may be the trigger. It's a good way of blowing off steam.
3) It has helped hundreds of people to escape religion and realise they're not alone.
You ignored 99% of the content on rational responders. We do all that. We have forums, content, explanations. Apparently, you just took what you wanted out of the site. Pretty typical. You seem pretty well grounded, think about it.
I agree. I'm fairly agnostic; however, after viewing Pat Condell's Re:BC, I was offended. Even though I question religion I now feel like I should side with it only because of the responses submitted to the blasphemy challenge. They aren't educated, they're generally rude.
I hope you aren't using Faux News for your information source.
You can reconcile your concerns by viewing all of the videos and reading all the responses. If you do you will see that it's not an impulsive, rebellion as you seem to be implying.
The reason why religion seems to be losing ground in modern times is due to widespread education and access to knowledge (new and old). People are getting smart and see religions to merely be the old myths that they really are.
It's the nature of the challenge itself that bothers me. It's a purposeful defiance of the only unforgivable sin in the Bible.
I'm an atheist, I don't believe there are sins at all, why should I make a public showing of denying the holy spirit, using the Bible's own terminology? It's not professing atheism, only professing my anti-Christian activism.
hey nice video, I'm a Christian (just so you know :) ), thanks for taking the issue carmly, although i think that the whole blasphemy challenge is based on taking the scripture out of context which sort of defeats what its trying to do.
think this good reply video i've watched, if you search for "rational response squad, blasphemy challenge take mark 3:29"
Skalapunk, we have social contracts that prevents us from hurting one another, if you need your bible to prevent yourself from killing, raping, so be it, you should live and die with it.
i've watched some of the challenge responses, and many of the god denouncers are very peaceful and friendly. i think fox news picked the meanest and most angry videos in order to portray non-believers as hostile crazies.
Ive been saying this to a lot of people, we need to take away the negative connotation associated with the word "Atheist" and the only way to go about it is to be intellectual, respectful, and affable. Its a great time for a movement not a party, and I for one am ashamed when I see people misrepresenting what could be a very big step for man kind.
Dude, much respect! I'm a Christian who as only met a couple atheist that I was able to speak with rationally and honestly about our respective positions. Beside the fact that the blasphemy challenge misrepresents what it means to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, it's the attitude that largely makes atheism so unattractive.
The Bible misrepresents many things. The contradictions in the Bible, such as this one vs. other things it says, is a big part of the problem with your religion.
Our attitude of not believing something that is not only make-believe but actually contradicts itself is not our problem...it's yours.
You missed my point entirely. I never said I had a problem with what you don't believe. I am agreeing with zgates that there is a problem with the blasphemy challenge specifically. Your zealous unbelief seems to have rendered you unable to objectively umderstand and respond to my comment, simply because I said I was a Christian.
Actually it was more the part where you said "I'm a Christian who as only met a couple atheist that I was able to speak with rationally and honestly about our respective positions."
You have to admit that that was a little more than just saying that you were a Christian.
I think that you may be the one rendered unable to objectively understand or consider another position.

The blasphemy challenge ...

The blasphemy challenge is the best!

I think we should do that cartoon contest :D
If you want to stop muslims killing people for drawing cartoons you have to get them used to the idea.
Watch the response of a user Pat Condell. You will probably find it offensive and unhelpful but I think it's brilliant and VERY funny.

How is it out of context?
The thing is, it doesn't matter anyway as we don't believe ANY part of the myth context that the Bible promotes...that's the point.
ELECTROGOD 4 years ago 2
That's the point of the whole challenge indeed.
You take the scariest part of the Bible and say "get real!"
And no lighting bolts come down, the world just goes on.
jazzx251 4 years ago
Then don't, zgates...no one has said that you SHOULD do it.
But not all the responses were about anti-Christian activism (didn't you look through them?), so it comes down to what you want to make of it.
Yes, it is purposeful defiance of a myth that has been used to manipulate people for centuries.

If you don't believe in sins, what stops you from stealing, rape, murder, lying, hate, violence, etc?
