@mrbelmont2000 David Warner has played villains in several roles (Probably my favorite role of his was when he provided the voice of Ra's al Ghul in 'Batman; The Animated Series'). He was actually the first choice to play Freddy Krueger in the original "Nightmare on Elm Street," but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts so they replaced him with Robert Englund.

Anyone who says that the mother is a bitch has never lived in that kind of poverty before. Living day after day, never knowing if you're going to have enough food to eat the next day, never having a moment of peace because of always worrying about money. Don't you think that would ware a person's nerves thin enough to make them testy and have them snap easily? I feel really sorry for the mother. She was trying to do the best she could with the little she had.

@sirusbones Yeah, she's a bit short with the kids, but considering how physically and emotionally exhausted she clearly is 24/7, it's understandable that she wouldn't exactly be in the best of moods.

@sirusbones been there done that and still doing so. i have three little ones and worry about next meal each day! but never let the kids worry or take it out on them...yeah its hard but keeping kids happy and letting them be kids is part of a parents job. to not let them worry about bad adult issues but to enjoy childhood and life! if she cant handle it then she should just give up kids to the word or work!!! stupid bitch!

I think the reason so many people still like this (as adults) is the way the family is portrayed- the parents honestly struggling to keep the family income afloat, really loving and worrying about their children (though they show it in different ways).

I'm guessing the story's been uprooted to England, as evidenced by the Punch and Judy show...which isn't a bad thing, although the story was originally set in Germany.

Actually, the Punch and Judy show originated from a skit from the Italian group, the Commedia dell'arte and in the medieval ages, it travelled around mainland Europe, including Germany. So its not necessarily England, where this was set. In real life, the Cannon Movie Tales were all filmed (ironically) in Israel.
