How much did all that lot cost you? Nice collection, have been lookin at getting some gold or silver, gold is far to dear at the minute, i like the look of silver.
What about capital gains tax on the bars? I heard they are not legal tender so you could get hit by a corrupt Government attempted swipe by going to 40% + CGT after the financial SHTF.
now if i want silver bars and coins with dents and scratches and fingerprints i know where to get it ;)
often dropping it to get familiar to the sound is another method to identify fakes which can be combined with other methods, but the way you drop them all the time seems a bit over the top. if you want to make use of added value due to collectibility, quality needs to stay mint.
in this case you just cut them into pieces like a chocolate bar. if it is really only about the silver, and you need it for that purpose, and you need smaller parts, then just get a sharp axe and chop it up, no big deal. if i remember correctly, 999 fine silver is much softer than most alloys.
one other method that should work for coins or smaller bars, if you dont have better tools, is to start with a cutter and make a single cut as deep as you can on both sides, and then bend it back and forth along that line, where it will break or open wide enough that you can cut with the cutter again.
big bars of high thickness might be a challenge, but then, i think its extremely unlikely that you will ever need to make anything smaller anyway.
@MUDSWAT ,I don't know why people keep saying that. Large bars are just as easy to move as 1oz coins, the difference is that large bars are cheaper per oz., thus making them a better investment. Small coins may be better for barter, but certainly not for sane financial investment.
Remember, investment in numismatic coins is a rather different type of investment than that of investing in PMs.
Have you ever tried to sell a 100 ounce silver bar? Without Ebay maybe to a pawn shop ?around $1500... Your going to give someone a 100 ounce bar for a Gallon of Milk and a Loaf of Bread ?? What change are you going to get, I garantee it won't be silver....
What do you save buying the larger bars?? 70 cents?? I'm a coin collector more than a bullion collector. Coins have a 2 way investment. Bullion amount and numismatic value. I'll always think coins are a better investment but high risk.
For investment purposes it's better to buy larger, but only slightly. The place I buy from charges .85 over spot for rounds or 10 oz bars, and .80 for 100 oz bars. In a complete collapse it would be alot easier to barter with rounds. For instance, buying 2 dozen apples for an ounce is more convenient then buying 20 dozen apples for 10 oz. This is also why most of us collect junk silver coins, instead of just bullion. It depends on how low you believe our economy is going to go.
Also, during "The Great Melt", a lot of places stopped buying. Refineries wouldn't take any new customers, and dealers wouldn't buy because they knew the price was unsustainable.
I don't live in the US, I am not one of these panic merchant, wish for the worst type.
I use silver as a part of my overall investments. Basically, if silver is double the price it is now, in about 4-5 years, i will be happy.
If It came down to using silver to pay for stuff, i'm sure I could work out how to chisel a chunk of a 100oz bar. If you are that worried about the future, might i suggest buying a small plot of cheap land, THAT is what will be important.
@MAJESTIC10110 wtf no it wont im a jewler and im surprice how dumb people are i handler silver every fucking day for the last 15 years and i havent seen not even one stain so people u can touch your silver yes u can dont be so idiots u gonna stain it
@tibherius Sterling silver is 7.5 percent copper, but the most common stains from sterling silver jewelry are black, and occur when the metal tarnishes (darkens due to a reaction with gases in the air). Some sterling pieces are coated with products that help keep them from tarnishing, but the coatings will wear off in time. What kind of jewler doest know that!!
Its such an arse buying silver for us brits with the 15% tax Americans dont know how good they got it. I still buy as an investment even with the tax.

If your interested in getting more silver for less money you can't go wrong with silver snowball, I've been doing it for just 3 months and this month I received 6 silver eagle coins for just $42.50 US, that includes shipping all the way from the states to me in New Zealand.
Alreadly had 2 more sign ups this month so I'll be getting 7 silver ealges next month for the same price : )

nice pile... I don't care for the "poured" 10oz bars.... thinking if/when times get tough might have to "prove" they are 10oz 999 silver.. I like the Shineshine/Apmex/Silvertown Manufactured Minted bars..
I wish it was,but as far as the big chess game of depriving you and/or all your countries wealth is concerned, gold and silver are 'check',and their confiscation(at least attempted)would be 'check-mate',so forget about cash or treasuries as a safe haven, they will be exposed all too soon for the 'fiat' paper that they are, but before any confiscation of precious metals may take place there will be the opportunity to convert it to fiat for immediate essentials, its a very cheap insurance policy
I agree money is for suckas but it gets a bit tricky buying bread and milk with kilo bars of silver at your local grocery store lol, so makes more sense to cash it in as needed and spend the fiat quicker than you can pass a hot potatoe...of course you may want to be rid of most precious metals before the secular commodity bull market pops too
Here you are again.. back on "yet another" silver video trying to abuse people. WTF is wrong with your brain, boy? do you have some sort of mental illness?. Do you actualy gain something from talking utter bullshit and making a complete fool of yourself?.

Lol,
However soft silver maybe its still a metal and chopping it up with an axe won't work to well. You may be able to cut it with a hack saw or better.

that was just one example.
