I used to think that the news reader on Utvarp Foroyar sounded like he was about to commit suicide, and the singing was no better. Some languages have music in them, and some don't. Faroese is one of those, I'm afraid.

And it was only the Utvarp Forayar newsreader who sounded suicidal, not everybody. I find the Esturoy accent nicer than that on Streymoy, though. That may be part of it.

As a german, you can apply for a job here in the Faroe Islands and if you get the job, you can aply for a work-permit, the work permit is normaly given for 1-3 years and then you can extend it up to 7 years. When you have been living and working here for 7 years you can aply for a permanent residency. Since we are not a EU member, you dont get anything automaticly. Retirement visa if you have a pension already from your own country is also an option.

Norwegian is close to Danish and Faroese. West norwegian dialects and west norwegian is closer to Faroese while Bokmål and east norwegian dialects are closer to danish. But all in all norwegian is closer to danish.

You fool i never said that norwegian is closer to faroese than danish. I said that faroese is closer to norwegian than danish. Faroese is a germanic language as well. Norwegian is close to Danish and Faroese. West norwegian dialects and west norwegian is closer to Faroese while Bokmål and east norwegian dialects are closer to danish. But all in all norwegian is closer to danish.
