I remember it like it was yesterday. The Edmonton Sun ran the headline "99 Tears". It was obvious to me then at the tender age of 18 that hockey was only about money. You simply don't trade the player that so many people believe is the best who ever lived. I think I've watched about a half a dozen games since then.
@bigalz420...I don't think you know anything about hockey. All he did was earn every offensive world record and completely redefine the game of hockey. There is no athlete alive you can effectively compare Gretsky to, he is/was/and will always be the man. Ask anyone who actually plays hockey what they thought of him and you'll get respect...maybe bitterness, but always respect. Dude is beyond legend.
Hello from Argentina, I really love Wayne´s as Player and as a Simbol, And i ask just one question, this guy have to quit his team to give a better life to his family, But in this sportworl today i mean, in ANY sport, do you know anyone who his sncere as Wayne, Showing reall pain and break himself cause he has to renounce to his true love????his tru team?? his true Heart??, He is an example, he allways been, and he allways was, Long Live the King ( not LA, lol) Long Live 99
wayne gretzky is a pussy fayggot, cryin on tv, fuck him, all he did was cherry pick in front of the net, no defense, no real heart for the game except scoring goals
@bigalz420 Fuck you man! Gretzky is a legend. He is a hockey hero. And if he can cry on national TV and show his true feelings... that takes balls. No heart for the game except scoring goals?? What did you just see?
@bigalz420 ugh. If he never scored a single goal, he would STILL be the NHL's all time points leader, he has more assists, then anyone else has ever had Goals+assists. ever.
Wayne Gretzky really didn't know the true meaning of love until he came to Los Angeles! True, he won all of his Stanley Cups with Edmonton. But Wayne Gretzky was not loved any more anywhere else than he was during the 8 years he has played in Los Angeles.
Unlike assholes like LeBron who ditched his hometown Cleveland on a whim without sort of feelings. Gretzky was straight up when crying about leaving a city, and a team who has been more of a Family to him.
@oopopp Peter Pocklington is a fucking joke! The only reason why the Oliers won the Stanley Cup in 1990 was solely to satisfy the egos of Pocklington and Mark Messier who wanted to prove to the world that they could still win a Stanley Cup without Wayne Gretzky!
i was 6 when i watched this interview..... the only thing i remember about it was that i cried, long and hard during it. Gretzky was the greatest player to ever play, and he truly loved the oilers.
Here's the behind the scenes scoop, Gretzky knew about the possibility of a trade a year before. If you read Brian MacFarlane's book, you'll see where Gretzky mentions it. For him to act surprised here is a joke and a lie.
@abc1000001 you're an idiot if you don't think it hurt him to leave edmonton. his true emotions came out during the press conference that you can't just act out.
@abc1000001 er, he doesn't look surprised, just saddened by the fact that he's leaving the team and city that he's been playing at for so long. Even if you plan to move say houses to another city, you are bound to feel sad about leaving people and a city you loved behind.
@ps07857 what?! no no no..he left the best team in the game to play for LA..the oilers had won 4 championships in 5 years and the team was full of hall of famers like mark M, paul coffey and kurri. they won one without gretzky after he left even. it was the best team in the game he left...i guess his wife didnt like canada..she wanted back to the states and the nice guy that wayne is accepted that.
At least Wayne Gretzkt never gave the impression he was trying to be like or better than someone else. LeBron James wants to be like Michael Jordan, and doesn't understand why the world doesn't embrace him like Mike.
fuckin NBA pieces of shit not giving 2 fucks about trades or anything like that this just goes to prove that hockey players are just straight up better people than fucking over payed basketball players
@MrRoflcopter00005 Yeah Eric Lindros who refused to play for the quebec nordiques who drafted him #1 overall was pure class...This guy was a self entitled brat when he was 15 playing for the oshawa generals..he even snubbed the OHL team that drafted him #1 overall ...imagine if Lebron james who was drafted #1 overall by Cleveland said sorry..im not playing for the Cavs............when NBA or even NFL players get drafted they are so grateful..NHL players act like spoiled little brats
@tonysacco79 "NFL players get drafted they are so grateful." John Elway - Colts, Eli Manning - Chargers. Both #1 picks. They were so grateful to be drafted.
@tonysacco79 I agree that Lindros acted like a little bitch about getting drafted by the Nords but generally that attitude isn't that common among NHL players IMO... I actually think it exists more among NBA players. Generally they seem to not like the prospect of playing in places like Toronto (and formerly Vancouver) because it's not a place where they have the spotlight. I remember when Steve Francis was drafted by the Vancouver Grizzles he trashed the city and refused to play there
@lovelylass13 i disagree...it happens just as much in the NHL...most recently with Dany Heatley who demanded Ottawa trade him to one of the few teams on his wish list. NHL has plenty of spoiled brats....another example is Chris Pronger demanding a trade out of Edmonton....How about Partick Roy skating to the bench during a game and telling the General manager sitting behind the bench he's played his last game for montreal lol Jagr always just bounces around looking for a paycheck ONLY
@MrRoflcopter00005 Have you ever heard of a no trade clause? What makes you believe that NBA players don't care about staying put you fucking idiot. Also what make someone a better person for not wanting to be traded? Please explain with your irrational reasoning.
@MrRoflcopter00005 So NHL; players are better people because thois faggot is crying his eyes out? Give me a fucking break. NHL players have fist fights every fucking game. They're complete scumbags. Fuck the NHL
@MrRoflcopter00005 Basketball players and hockey players are just people but very good at sports. The end. I mean there sure have been basketball players who has shown emotions when they are trade to another team.
Basketball player or hockey player, Docent matter.
@ECWnWWF That's right.....do you also recalled 1993 playoffs called game 7 best NHL of his career? Of course, it was his last trip to Stanley Cup final and loss to Montreal Canadiens lol. Mind you he got a help from greaseball Kerry Fraser in game 7 against the Leafs.

@shadowchaos88 ....Definitely ...would have won in 89 and 90....not sure about about 91 and 92 cause Mario , Jagr and the Pens were probably good enough to have beat them by then.
@dojOdRiFTeR true but the Pens had Lemieux, Jagr, Ron Francis, Paul Coffey , Bryan Trottier, Mark Recchi, Kevin Stevens and Tom Barrasso and tons of depth..alot people forget just how good the back to back Pens champs were they would have given (i think) even aGretzky lead Oilers team a tough time just like the 87 flyers who didn't really have a"superstar" player outside of ron hextall
This was a total croc folks! He got sold off to the Kings cause jerk Pocklington needed the cash. I met Wayne's dad out here in Burnaby scorekeeping ice hockey and I said to him in a way Wayne getting traded or sold to Los Angeles was better for him in the long run cause he made way more dough than what Pocklington would ever be afford to pay him. Pocklington never would have been able to afford to pay Wayne the millions he made while a King. His dad agreed with me. As well he helped hockey usa
He even said on an interview that he never wanted to be traded but the Oilers Organization felt like it was best for the team to pass up a lot of money. His pay increased dramatically. LA Kings former GM even said that he would have traded his whole team to get Gretzky. While Gretzky was asked if how many Stanley Cup could have he won for the Oilers if he was not traded, he said 4 or 5.
I know he could have done that. He was untouchable.

Some people want young white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very tiny sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.
If you click on my name “autumntree2011” highlighted in blue below this comment, you can watch my video.
