Wow! You can really hear Charlie Brooker and Chris Morris through the character of Nathan Barley. Being the actor of the two, Morris might as well have played Barley himsself.
i don't think they have put this on region 1 dvds which play in america it's only on region 2 or 4 (which is most of europe & australia) so you would have to get a multiregion dvd player to play it.

no, it got unwatchable. and not funny. i'm the biggest chris morris fan and thats why i think he purposely made it terrible so people would hail it as a masterpiece regardless.
na, i loved the later episodes. i dont think he would have made it bad on purpose. just making one series and not ruining it by dragging it thro series after series, made it a cult hit
i think he is exactly the type of person who would. you only need to watch brasseye to see how much he fucks with his viewers. it started off well and became a ratings disaster, look it up. its not about him not doing a 2nd series from artistic integrity. c4 wont give him one.
That's a verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting take on it. I do adore it though and see much more Brooker than Morris. Well, you can /see/ more Morris maybe, but /feel/ more Brooker.
i did like the show, but i do strongly feel it ran out of steam.
and for the idiots thumbing me down, why don't you quote some more dialogue from the posted clip. that's much more insightful than intellectual debate after all.
As far as I'm aware, The Idiots are supposed to be a piss-take of Brooker and Morris' hardcore fanbase. Except for Nathan and Dan, who are Brooker and Morris themselves.
The series seems to be an acknowledgement that so-called 'media terrorist' comedy can too easily stray into puerility and genuine offensiveness, which is a refreshing point (especially considering who's making it).
Nice comment! I hadnt heard of media terrorist comedy, but the point where he says to him "its for an ident on my website", that is so now. So hideous too!
I was shocked to hear "alright me nigger" no one says that
Thanks. To be honest, 'media terrorist' is really just a buzzword that the media invented to describe Chris Morris (and his rival Victor Lewis-Smith).
And while I'm being honest, I'll admit that I didn't really think the show was that funny, but I just get tired of some of its other detractors missing the point about it. Charlie Brooker has often spoken about annoying people who attempt to impress him by trying to copy his style.
genius show.....even now i got mates who are obsessed with "the mighty boosh" have only just got into this as the 2 guys from the boosh are in this........c'mon catch up! this was out years ago.
The Day Today is fucking unbelievable as well as Brass Eye. I also (maybe to some surprise) happen to be a huge Mighty Boosh fan.,.. and I think this show(Nathan Barley the one yr watching**) happens to be fucking brilliant right here.
I do not see a second series, Nicholas Burns said there are too many people around that are actually like this. I do have a complaint though, why is Morris NOT in this show at all yet he's in the IT crowd...??? Which is ok funny (ha ha) but not like this.
its wierd watchin this back coz wen it first came out i watched it but had no idea who Julian Barratt Noel Fielding or Richard Ayeoade (however u spell it) were and now they're amongst my favourites.
A lot of criticism posted on here. Criticism which I for one don't like. It's a shame really and I'm pretty certain some people don't think it 'works' because they are idiots and they don't want their cover of being cool to be blown. They're probably worried that they won't still be able to go around saying everthing's 'randon' or 'jackin'. I recently heard someone saying 'rid-dic' instead of riddiculous- Twat! Keep it fuckin Mencap!
its like... yeah, its well written, good acting, but it is a bit shit. i don't like to say it, but someone has to. thts why its not on telly, and no-one but us have heard about it.
I think it's a satire of a particular time and place, if you never lived there or through that time (like me) then it's perhaps a bit hard to grasp. That said I watched this on tv I was 20 and while loving all Morris' other stuff I didn't really understand a lot of the jokes I do now. Kinda showed me that I was a bit of a cock at that age :)
I agree with gal2hx. This show had great pedigree but it never quite worked. There's an uneasy mix between comedy and drama. It feels like it doesn't really know what it wants to be.
I dig all the people involved with this, but the end product is just fuckin gash. Sorry. Form an orderly queue to click 'thumbs down' on this comment. Thanks.
i love series three, if you watch or listen to any of the Boosh there ar always moments of true genius or innocence where you can tell they don't even have to try to be funny. Okay, so Vince was a lot less niave in this series, but he still has his moments of complete adorability - i am of course referring to the rather epic 'Plan Pony' :p
Crack Fox was awesome (though scary), but I completely agree with emolegroin about the Vince/Howard dynamic, it made me sad :'( Vince was so nice before, what the hell happened?
Agree with dibbuck. I love Boosh, I hate to be critical of its glory but the truth remains that the first 2 series were awesome and the 3rd ruined it :'(
we are all foolish idiots but some of us train to be doctors so at least r idiots that can do something but the media-jeeze what is the point of the all this shit
Perhaps Morris and Brooker ARE highlighting their positions as purveyors of 'twaddle' through Barratts character-he bitches incisively about the madness around him, but he is also involved in it,because he works in sugarape supplying articles that help sustain the magazines deeply sophisticated emptiness,
His reluctant participation is still participation, and try as he might to get one over, he can never escape 'the madness', he lives inside it, consuming and contributing
It makes you wonder if there is any point to this satire. As good as it is, its not going to change anything. The sharper and more biting you make it, the more its going to be appropriated by the same deluded hipsters the show is trying to undermine.
Its destined to become ammunition for idiots. Its absolutely fucking cursed
That's the way you want to walk out of a job, huh?
Hehe! But it also serves as a reminder to how bad life might be if you burn your bridges and have to come back with your tail between your legs in defeat :O
A real grower. I think the opening line "The idiot is a self regarding consumer slave, oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality", absolutely sums up the culture created by the i-spube generation. I am not sure though if another series of this would be worth while as the final episode has such a great twist and ending for what is an awesome series... What you thinking Mr Morris?
I just saw Perfume the other day and I'm like, whoa, that guy looks a lot like Pingu from Nathan Barley. Then I'm like, wait, yeah, it's Ben Whishaw! Haha, he goes from being a cold-blooded killer to a sweet and shy kid. He's cute.
you dont straight away link the likes of noel feilding with the likes of chris morris but when you tihnk about it there both pretty abstract tho morris has done much more extreme things i do like this
I see the Boosh as a piss take in almost the same way, Vince is everything that's wrong with the world, he's fickle, and shallow, and an idiot- yet everyone on the show loves him.
Is that not exactly the same way Nathan Barley is? With Julian playing the counter balance under appreciated intellectual, who isn't as intellectual as he thinks?
i know this an argument over fictional characters lol but i don't think vince is 'everything wrong with the world'. fickle & shallow yes but he also has a bit of idealism and innocence in him...good and bad aspects in both howard and vince, non? mocking the extreme archetypal personalities
I don't think we can judge talent by the number of people who like something, or even by conventional awards; as that's all based on an industry which revolves around mass popularity as well.
That being said, I personally think that the boosh and Nathan Barley have more in common than people think.
Wow! You can really hear Charlie Brooker and Chris Morris through the character of Nathan Barley. Being the actor of the two, Morris might as well have played Barley himsself.

Same concept, different styles.

i know this an argument over fictional characters lol but i don't think vince is 'everything wrong with the world'. fickle & shallow yes but he also has a bit of idealism and innocence in him...good and bad aspects in both howard and vince, non? mocking the extreme archetypal personalities

I don't think we can judge talent by the number of people who like something, or even by conventional awards; as that's all based on an industry which revolves around mass popularity as well.
That being said, I personally think that the boosh and Nathan Barley have more in common than people think.
