  • Wow! You can really hear Charlie Brooker and Chris Morris through the character of Nathan Barley. Being the actor of the two, Morris might as well have played Barley himsself.

  • I wonder what Brooker thinks about twitter

    :S

  • does anyone know what half the music from this series is? i have to know, its shit hot.

  • Trouble is, it's a few years down the line now and the Barleys are no longer so called 'cutting edge'.

Now, they a bit older and are moving into production offices of the mainstream channels!

Better buy those box-sets of great, classic TV shows now, because there won't be many more!

  • Charlie Brookers hatred for these shallow twits is legendary.

  • love how barleys 'art' rips into banksy

  • This is criminally underrated. Perhaps it's because the general population think it's a documentary.

  • Yeah yer right.I dunno which type I hate more, proberley the media type idiots, I'm not to sure really.

  • Ooohhh, about 9:55 "Hey Sis" didn't Charlie have a whole show about clunkers like that?

  • Keep it dense

  • richard ayoade is a genius

  • love this. does anyone know where to get this dvd in america?

  • i don't think they have put this on region 1 dvds which play in america it's only on region 2 or 4 (which is most of europe & australia) so you would have to get a multiregion dvd player to play it.

  • It's a Wasp T25, released in Japan 3 months ago, where's yourrrrs?

  • 'yeah, you're going to fuck an idiot'

  • It's full of such brilliant performances. Julian Barrat and the boy Barley torments are both really understated.

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I LOVE THIS TOOOO MUCH!

  • Funny!

  • KEEP IT FOOLISH!

I squee-ed when Richard Ayoade came on screen XD yes.

  • the idiot doesn't think about what they are saying. thinking is rubbish. and rubbish isn't cool. stuff and shit is cool.

  • This is well weapon

  • i wonder if the empty-coffee throwing bit is related to the IT Crowd not-so-empty-coffee throwing bit.

  • are the idiots pretty much what Brits refer to as "Chavs"? I kind of always wondered what that meant, and am too lazy to look it up.

  • No he isnt an example of chav culture, he is what might be desicribed as a 'media ponce'

  • No, idiots are much worse than chavs. Media wannabes who think the world revolves around them... you get the idea

  • "Colossally concentrated amounts of TCP"

    Cockmunching spunktard.

  • Nathan doesn't realise he's one of the idiots!

  • SteveDurnin... yep! you're totally right! it's actually the whole idea! pretty obvious really! thx for pointing us to it! idiot!

  • Screw you, asshole.

  • Well brown. Laters, ya rapist.

  • bum

  • I wasn't really paying attention when it first aired, but I'm seeing some more of it on here and it's fantastic.

  • keep it dusty xD

  • lol keep it foolish

  • Kind of funny how Fielding has evolved into the epitome of the idiot.

  • ben wishaw is so attractive. :)

  • why the F has embedding been disabled????

    Bloody fascists

  • pretty cool they allowed it on youtube anyway, i wouldn't call em fascists

  • Ayoade playing the anti-Moss.

  • whats the song at the begining where hes blazing?

  • Well weapon.

  • I've seen the email of the woman being bummed by a wolf. It's sick! (sick meaning good of course). Keep it foolish

  • sic

  • Charlie brooker AND Chris morris, how could it not be awesome☺

  • totally sums up my creedos lol

  • "I'm a self facilitating media node"

  • This programme is very funny and savvy, and also incredibly detailed.

  • keep it foolish

  • hahah tcp

  • they should do an episode involving jim morrison in some way....

  • genius

  • fredie star the original bill hicks. pricless

  • keep feelin' fascination, yeah?

    lookin'. learnin'. movin' on.

    Peace and fuckin'

    BELIEVE

  • I DONT think its cringe worthy like say the office is. the characters are thick and thats why its funny . you dont really feel sorry for dan

  • i do

  • this 1st ep was hilarious and then the show got worse and worse.

  • ??? er dont you mean it got better and better....

  • no, it got unwatchable. and not funny. i'm the biggest chris morris fan and thats why i think he purposely made it terrible so people would hail it as a masterpiece regardless.

the exact people he was satirizing.

it seemed to have worked as well...

  • na, i loved the later episodes. i dont think he would have made it bad on purpose. just making one series and not ruining it by dragging it thro series after series, made it a cult hit

  • i think he is exactly the type of person who would. you only need to watch brasseye to see how much he fucks with his viewers. it started off well and became a ratings disaster, look it up. its not about him not doing a 2nd series from artistic integrity. c4 wont give him one.

  • That's a verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting take on it. I do adore it though and see much more Brooker than Morris. Well, you can /see/ more Morris maybe, but /feel/ more Brooker.

  • i did like the show, but i do strongly feel it ran out of steam.

and for the idiots thumbing me down, why don't you quote some more dialogue from the posted clip. that's much more insightful than intellectual debate after all.

  • Do people realise this is satire?

  • no everyone thinks it's a documentary

  • 'nice one ma nigga'

  • "its well fuckin futile!"

  • Do you think morris wrote this after the cult following of brass eye/day today with people quoting it constantly. Who are the real idiots

  • "awesome opinions, man. Keep it foolish"

  • Comment removed

  • thanks its bin buggin me for ages lol

  • is the guy who plays nathan also in benidorm???

  • It's not a phone it's a self facilitating multimedia communications device, been out for two weeks in Japan, where's yours? ;o)

  • lol good

  • is that dee plume at 0:28?

  • she's probably in this.. but not at 0:28 :P

  • i always thought nathan barely was summin they did before mighty boosh lol

  • This program is so well observed

  • As far as I'm aware, The Idiots are supposed to be a piss-take of Brooker and Morris' hardcore fanbase. Except for Nathan and Dan, who are Brooker and Morris themselves.

The series seems to be an acknowledgement that so-called 'media terrorist' comedy can too easily stray into puerility and genuine offensiveness, which is a refreshing point (especially considering who's making it).

  • Nice comment! I hadnt heard of media terrorist comedy, but the point where he says to him "its for an ident on my website", that is so now. So hideous too!

I was shocked to hear "alright me nigger" no one says that

  • Thanks. To be honest, 'media terrorist' is really just a buzzword that the media invented to describe Chris Morris (and his rival Victor Lewis-Smith).

And while I'm being honest, I'll admit that I didn't really think the show was that funny, but I just get tired of some of its other detractors missing the point about it. Charlie Brooker has often spoken about annoying people who attempt to impress him by trying to copy his style.

  • I've just realised that Claire really badly reminds me of my english lit teacher

  • your lucky then shes hot i had a 70yr old slut as my teacher :(

  • Not really. She's a bit of a cow.

I just pissed myself off reading over comments looking for this

  • lol

  • Freddie Starr, like the original Bill Hicks. Classic!

  • genius show.....even now i got mates who are obsessed with "the mighty boosh" have only just got into this as the 2 guys from the boosh are in this........c'mon catch up! this was out years ago.

    idiots ;-) peace and fucking.

  • dont worry i'l get this, can i borrow a tenner?

  • thinking is rubbish ?

  • and rubbish isnt cool

  • TCP. ha.

  • Keep it foolish!

  • Self-facilitating media node...

Sadly - so true to life...

  • Well fucking futile. LOL

  • keep it dense. Fucking brilliant.

  • Freddie Starr, the original Bill Hicks, fucking funny.

  • GREAT SEND!

  • Alright spunk plate..keep it dusty!

    fit sisters a recool!

  • Self Facilitating Media Node

  • keep it foolish!

  • Nathan has one hell os a sexy neck (when he smokes the weed);)

"nice one my n*gger" this could never be on BBC1! LOL

  • BIGGZZY mate..thats the joke

  • The Day Today is fucking unbelievable as well as Brass Eye. I also (maybe to some surprise) happen to be a huge Mighty Boosh fan.,.. and I think this show(Nathan Barley the one yr watching**) happens to be fucking brilliant right here.

I do not see a second series, Nicholas Burns said there are too many people around that are actually like this. I do have a complaint though, why is Morris NOT in this show at all yet he's in the IT crowd...??? Which is ok funny (ha ha) but not like this.

  • To anybody who's worked in the media, the fuckwitz portrayed in this show will seem painfully, and hysterically familiar, Jaknow wotimean yeah?

Thank you Chris Morris & Charlie Brooker for seeing through the shallow sham of modern media life... and making us laugh at the same time.

    More please.

  • ITS THC NOT TCP, WASTEMAN

  • Charlie Brooker and Chris Morris a winning and genius combination!

  • oh my and is that ben wishaw playin pingu or w.e. he's called?

  • its wierd watchin this back coz wen it first came out i watched it but had no idea who Julian Barratt Noel Fielding or Richard Ayeoade (however u spell it) were and now they're amongst my favourites.

  • totally fucking mexico

  • THE RISE OF THE IDIOT. so fucking true. every boss i've ever met is an idiot. ... or an arse.

  • yeh youre gonna fuck an idiot

    mad funny!

  • N Barley was, like, one of the best things on Television, yeah ?

    peace an fuckin' believe

  • What kind of shit? Documentaries?! Not bad

  • God I love this show. Didnt realise it was on here, marvellous.

  • A lot of criticism posted on here. Criticism which I for one don't like. It's a shame really and I'm pretty certain some people don't think it 'works' because they are idiots and they don't want their cover of being cool to be blown. They're probably worried that they won't still be able to go around saying everthing's 'randon' or 'jackin'. I recently heard someone saying 'rid-dic' instead of riddiculous- Twat! Keep it fuckin Mencap!

  • I know what you mean. Boosh fans kind of epitomise Nathan Barley types in real life for me.

  • its like... yeah, its well written, good acting, but it is a bit shit. i don't like to say it, but someone has to. thts why its not on telly, and no-one but us have heard about it.

  • I think it's a satire of a particular time and place, if you never lived there or through that time (like me) then it's perhaps a bit hard to grasp. That said I watched this on tv I was 20 and while loving all Morris' other stuff I didn't really understand a lot of the jokes I do now. Kinda showed me that I was a bit of a cock at that age :)

  • I agree with gal2hx. This show had great pedigree but it never quite worked. There's an uneasy mix between comedy and drama. It feels like it doesn't really know what it wants to be.

  • I dig all the people involved with this, but the end product is just fuckin gash. Sorry. Form an orderly queue to click 'thumbs down' on this comment. Thanks.

  • thumbs up. ure spot on!

  • love the contrast between Ned and Moss.

  • i love series three, if you watch or listen to any of the Boosh there ar always moments of true genius or innocence where you can tell they don't even have to try to be funny. Okay, so Vince was a lot less niave in this series, but he still has his moments of complete adorability - i am of course referring to the rather epic 'Plan Pony' :p

  • You are totally right.

The boosh might not be to some peoples taste but they are still funny nonetheless.

  • Crack Fox was awesome (though scary), but I completely agree with emolegroin about the Vince/Howard dynamic, it made me sad :'( Vince was so nice before, what the hell happened?

  • Agree with dibbuck. I love Boosh, I hate to be critical of its glory but the truth remains that the first 2 series were awesome and the 3rd ruined it :'(

  • agreed 100%

  • The strange thing about watching this is that a phone with a camera and an mp3 deck on it no longer seems ridiculous.

  • we are all foolish idiots but some of us train to be doctors so at least r idiots that can do something but the media-jeeze what is the point of the all this shit

  • i could almost see the cash signs in his eyes. so many people are saying its gone downghill so it's good not to be alone

  • and its not just london. I see this in dublin too.

  • Interesting points.

Perhaps Morris and Brooker ARE highlighting their positions as purveyors of 'twaddle' through Barratts character-he bitches incisively about the madness around him, but he is also involved in it,because he works in sugarape supplying articles that help sustain the magazines deeply sophisticated emptiness,

His reluctant participation is still participation, and try as he might to get one over, he can never escape 'the madness', he lives inside it, consuming and contributing

  • Man, if Brooker and Morris are implicated in the madness, we all are.

  • this is scary

  • isnt series 2 out really soon?

  • All right me nigga

  • The ratings for 'X Factor' are even higher than your Dad's IQ.

  • latte no sugar.......... "NO"

  • i am a fan of both barratt and fielding in the mighty boosh but Nathan Barley is imo possibly the best tv show ever made.

Anyone else find it funny that the majority of the boosh fanbase are the very people being satirised in Barley?

  • Not just that- the 'Idiots' would love Brass Eye and much else, for all the wrong reasons...

  • you're so right. thank you.

  • It makes you wonder if there is any point to this satire. As good as it is, its not going to change anything. The sharper and more biting you make it, the more its going to be appropriated by the same deluded hipsters the show is trying to undermine.

Its destined to become ammunition for idiots. Its absolutely fucking cursed

  • Richard Ayoade: "Keep it Foolish'

  • keep it foolish

  • Keep it dusty!

  • Hand-held twit machine - I want one.

  • "F*ck off!" (V-salute) Bye! Idiots..."

That's the way you want to walk out of a job, huh?

Hehe! But it also serves as a reminder to how bad life might be if you burn your bridges and have to come back with your tail between your legs in defeat :O

  • keep it foolish

  • Barley is better than the Boosh.

    FACT

  • no

    OPINION

and its a false one too

  • definately better than the 3rd series of the boosh :(

  • I think Julian Barratt's great and this is great too. Good work Brooker and Morris! Hope their's a second series.

  • Saboo!

  • aww i love pingu hehe

  • my kieshes are good i put lego in them

    Long live the mighty boosh

  • keep feelin fascination yeah? lookin, learnin movin on. Peace and fucking believe.

coincimental, keep it plastic, keep it dusty

  • A real grower. I think the opening line "The idiot is a self regarding consumer slave, oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality", absolutely sums up the culture created by the i-spube generation. I am not sure though if another series of this would be worth while as the final episode has such a great twist and ending for what is an awesome series... What you thinking Mr Morris?

  • this program is a revelation

  • Noel fielding isnt shit !

    Fuck off !

  • I just saw Perfume the other day and I'm like, whoa, that guy looks a lot like Pingu from Nathan Barley. Then I'm like, wait, yeah, it's Ben Whishaw! Haha, he goes from being a cold-blooded killer to a sweet and shy kid. He's cute.

  • anyone know what the music when he's getting on the bus is?

  • That bloke on the computer at 7:20 looks like ian brown

  • I remember loving this when it was on!

  • you dont straight away link the likes of noel feilding with the likes of chris morris but when you tihnk about it there both pretty abstract tho morris has done much more extreme things i do like this

  • Way ahead of its time. GENIUS.

  • 100% spot on !, keep it foolish ma nigga.

  • I see the Boosh as a piss take in almost the same way, Vince is everything that's wrong with the world, he's fickle, and shallow, and an idiot- yet everyone on the show loves him.

Is that not exactly the same way Nathan Barley is? With Julian playing the counter balance under appreciated intellectual, who isn't as intellectual as he thinks?

    Same concept, different styles.

  • i know this an argument over fictional characters lol but i don't think vince is 'everything wrong with the world'. fickle & shallow yes but he also has a bit of idealism and innocence in him...good and bad aspects in both howard and vince, non? mocking the extreme archetypal personalities

  • I don't think we can judge talent by the number of people who like something, or even by conventional awards; as that's all based on an industry which revolves around mass popularity as well.

That being said, I personally think that the boosh and Nathan Barley have more in common than people think.
