@phonix032 all MIG29 all flyable but they wont be updated on OVT standard (32 are putted in reserve others are in service)....they will be dismissed and PAK FA will replace them...migs will probably be putted on SMT standard and sent to reserve...i dont think that many mig OVT are going to be in Russian service....
MiG-29s not dead yet.... India will be upgrading around 65 of them to SMT standards and both Indian and Russian Navies have placed orders for MiG-29Ks for their aircrafts carriers.

SU35 has to be my current favorite fighter just due to it's amazing agility. However, in a dogfight, such low speed acrobatics will get you DEAD in a jiffy. Remember that the new AIM9 missles have vectored thrust as well as the russian archer most likely (if not, soon.). In a fight, my bet would be on the F22 with it's stealth advantage.

I think Russian planes look fancier than western planes. While having superior avaionics and stealth I have my doubts about western composite airframe survivability over intense prolonged use. I wonder if they might wear out faster.

stealth is doubtful, nothing is stealth really...the stealth technology just evades radar interception..but it's not always accurate..remember the F-117 down in Bosnia.

Well, 100 Raptors are in service with the Air Force. Good too, the F-35 performance wise is a piece of crap. It's only advantage is that it's basically a flying computer,and the VTOL version is cool. But the thing isn't very stealthy, and has no TVC or supercruise.
I agree the F-22 is a better fighter overal, especially because of its stealth abilities, but its too costly to produce, thats why they had the whole project boeing vs lockheed to create a new fighter that was cheap to build.

(I think Tikhomirov was involved because Phazotron has shares in that company). I dont know the unit cost of EL/M-2052. India wants AESA its probably cheaper to integrate the EL/M-2052 for export. But russian figthers will use Zhuk(100%).
BF2Boom, the cost of F-22 unit is over $120 millions and MIG-29OVT should be at least 3 times cheaper. There is only 1 reason why Russia doesn't build a lot of MIGs. Russia doesn't use its army to assault other countries, as the US does, and therefore doesn't need to build a lot of planes for itself. And to build planes for export is a big problem, because the US is always unhappy when Russia is selling its weapon to countries the US doesn't approve.

Well they don't have the same reason for the war. The Soviet want to envade Afghanistan, hopefully occupy it and becomes a part of the USSR. The US wage war against the Taliban and not the Afghans. Terrorism will not be completely destroyed, as there will always be many hiding amongst us. Even Russia, US and many Western nations have terrorist cells and domestic terrorism. The objective in Afghanistan and Iraq is to minimized terrorism and have the government be able to control themselves.

The whole world was in a way sympathetic to Americas case including Russia. @phonix032 all MIG29 all flyable but they wont be updated on OVT standard (32 are putted in reserve others are in service)....they will be dismissed and PAK FA will replace them...migs will probably be putted on SMT standard and sent to reserve...i dont think that many mig OVT are going to be in Russian service....

SU35 has to be my current favorite fighter just due to it's amazing agility. However, in a dogfight, such low speed acrobatics will get you DEAD in a jiffy. Remember that the new AIM9 missles have vectored thrust as well as the russian archer most likely (if not, soon.). In a fight, my bet would be on the F22 with it's stealth advantage.

Raptor failed a lot of tests that it was supposed to pass, it did not meet a lot of requirements.

LOL and thats why the Govt decided to scrap the F-22 and use the F-35, because by their calculations in a few years every branch of the military would be sharing the same exact f-22 due to budget cuts, which is unacceptable.

Well, 100 Raptors are in service with the Air Force. Good too, the F-35 performance wise is a piece of crap. It's only advantage is that it's basically a flying computer,and the VTOL version is cool. But the thing isn't very stealthy, and has no TVC or supercruise.

I agree the F-22 is a better fighter overal, especially because of its stealth abilities, but its too costly to produce, thats why they had the whole project boeing vs lockheed to create a new fighter that was cheap to build.

The AESA system was sub contarcted to Phazotron and
Tikhomirov as joint development, it is called Zhuk-AE
(I think Tikhomirov was involved because Phazotron has shares in that company). I dont know the unit cost of EL/M-2052. India wants AESA its probably cheaper to integrate the EL/M-2052 for export. But russian figthers will use Zhuk(100%).

BF2Boom, the cost of F-22 unit is over $120 millions and MIG-29OVT should be at least 3 times cheaper. There is only 1 reason why Russia doesn't build a lot of MIGs. Russia doesn't use its army to assault other countries, as the US does, and therefore doesn't need to build a lot of planes for itself. And to build planes for export is a big problem, because the US is always unhappy when Russia is selling its weapon to countries the US doesn't approve.

Does anyone else realize that the PAK-FA looks like a spin off of the F22 design ?
Modern air combat is a LONG RANGE game, not flips, cobra's , knife edge stalls, etc...that's airshow stuff !
Lets see a 29-OVT do a cobra into a standstill vertical nosehang, and then climb without having to stall and drop it's nose to regain airspeed...like the F22 can do..check out "F22 at Langley"

The Raptor doesn't have to copy it, because the F22 is already better in desig
